Hidden power is a very random move between each Pokemon and has a lot of potential in a Pokemon battle. I have seen that the move hidden power attack can be different types. Wondering how does hidden power work and does it get a random type when you teach it to a Pokemon?

Thanks for any input.

Hidden Power's type and power depend on the user's IVs.

Its type can be any type but Normal (despite appearing as a Normal move)

Its power ranges from 30-70.

Maybe someone can elaborate.

And, next time, use the Simple Questions thread. No one seems to be using it nowadays.

In the 2nd and 3rd gen games hidden power can be either physical or special, depending on the type, e.g. hidden power ghost is physical, whereas hidden power water is special. In the 4th gen moves hidden power is always special.
You can find out the hidden power of your Pokemon by using it on a wild Kecleon. In Platinum, there is a man in game corner who tell you its type.
The hidden power of a Pokemon, which has 0 in every stat, will be Fight and have 30 power, while the hidden power of a Pokemon, which has 31 in every stat, will be dark and have 70 power. So basically a Pokemon with hp dark has good IVs.
