I'm trying to create a collection of meaningful quotes, the "food for thought" variety.

The quotes can come from anybody or anywhere, be it a ancient religious leader, a politician, a proverb or saying, a 19th century philosopher or a fictional character.

I will start with two right off my head:

"Be vigilant; guard your mind against negative thoughts." - Buddha

"I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are." - Mewtwo, from the first Pokémon movie.

" Do or do not. There is no try." - Yoda

"To be early is to be on time. To be on time is to be late. To be late is to be never there at all." -unknown

that makes you who you are
I thought it was "that determines who you are"?

"Nobody is more dangerous than he who imagines himself pure in heart; for his purity, by definition, is unassailable." -- James Baldwin

"Anyone who believes strictly through fear doesn't really believe." -- TheSilverNoble, from Gaia Online

"[W]hy is violence against the body more acceptable than the naked body itself?" -- Nuri, from Gaia Online

"The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one." -- Wilhelm Stekel

"When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure." -- Peter Marshall

"Woody once risked his life to save me. I couldn't call myself his friend...if I weren't willing to do the same." --Buzz Lightyear, Toy Story 2

"Be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars." -Henry Van Dyke

"When religion and politics travel in the same cart, the riders believe nothing can stand in their way." -- Frank Herbert

I thought it was "that determines who you are"?

Well, that was what I got from a web site that I have since "lost". I have the novel adaptation though, so let me check that...

Hmmm... the novel says "that determines who you are", and since the novel, I believe, is more accurate, I think I will go with that...

"I am Bokomon, Keeper of the Sacred book of Knowledge"
"And I am Neemon, Keeper of my pants."

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself," Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings," Optimus Prime.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it," Evelyn Beatrice Hall (often misattributed to Voltaire)

"Goebbels was in favor of free speech for views he liked. So was Stalin. If you're in favor of free speech, then you're in favor of freedom of speech precisely for views you despise. Otherwise, you're not in favor of free speech." -- Noam Chomsky

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely."-Lord Acton
This is the basis of my political philosophy.
"We proclaim ourselves, as indeed we are, the defenders of freedom, wherever it continues to exist in the world, but we cannot defend freedom abroad by deserting it at home."-Edward R. Murrow
"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."-Douglas Adams
Another part of my philosophy.
"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"-Douglas Adams
"As Americans we must always remember that we all have a common enemy, an enemy that is dangerous, powerful and relentless. I refer of course to the federal government."-Dave Barry
