Well now it is official. Australia will now get an R18+ rating for video games later in the year. After years of Arguing, Petitioning, Protesting and Activist-ing(not sure that's a real word) Australia finally has an Adults-Only rating. Australia is no longer the odd one out! :spin:

^You wait and watch even though it's yet to be revealed on game covers got a bad feeling that 50% of 13-17 year olds will find a way past the age limit and get one some way or another I saw it happen myself a few years back in walks a kid about 12-13(without any parent around and buys an MA15+ Rated game) :( just goes to show that the age limit doesn't matter at all in Aus

@Negaishipping-That happens all over the world.

The rating system is too strict as it is.

I am 14 and I play R16 and R18 games, and nothing is wrong with me!

It's really up to the parents to decide whether a game is suitable for their child or not.

I'd say that one of the legal requirements of purchasing it here would be Photo ID, considering the Govt. would give the Religious minority that concession.

They've given the wowsers the concession on everything for far too long.

I wouldn't call a victory just yet...there's always the chance that some nut from the ACL or some other lobby group will somehow get the board to change the proposed guidelines to be, uh, "softer" or something. Which naturally beats the entire point of the rating, but since when have they cared?

RC needs to be dumped altogether next; it's abused far too often and it covers far too broad an area, most of which is legal!

It's an unoffical requirement in the US, but if you are under 18 and buy M rated games with your mom around, you can get any game there is.

@Negaishipping-Which is why I don't go up to the counter.

I make my parents buy the game for me, or I order it online.

I don't see how Halo is an R16 game, do you?

Well that ok since you put it like that here's one for you

Say there were 3 Games on a table and they were labeled M,MA15+ and R18+ and you had the consent to pick only one which one would you go for?

@Negaishipping-It really depends on what kind of game it is.

I don't judge a game by it's rating.

I have several G games, several PG, etc...

The rating does not determine the quality.

@Negaishipping-That's the thing-Half of the R16 and R18 games are incorrectly rated.

Let's look at Halo.
Nothing in the games is anything worse than you would see in your average PG movie.
Blue alien blood, plasma rifles...

I doubt a child has a Banshee available to them to hop into and wreck havoc with :p

@Negaishipping-But the weapons in the game are so obscure, so unlikely for a child to be able to obtain, that I doubt that it would turn them into bank robbers, downtown shooters, etc...

Guess which state government is being full of shit now!

Mr Smith said the government was ''new'' and would not endorse the proposal until it had had more discussions with the federal government. He said he wanted to consult community groups.

UGHHHHHHHH get over it, more than enough "consulting" has been done ffs, just swallow your pride for once.

This is why I never vote for the "Liberal" party (why the hell are they even called that?)

The NSW Greens MP David Shoebridge said public submissions overwhelmingly favoured the introduction of the adults-only classification. ''Greg Smith should stop moralising and start looking into having sensible rules to reflect the material that is out there and at the same time ensure that consumers are properly informed,'' he said.

What this guy said.

more discussions

^this :( means and it's highly probable that Au won't ever see a M.I.A MK release here ever! cause no matter how many communities one asks the answer will almost always be split 80% saying NO and 19.5% saying yes
