NOTE: Tough =/= Shit, as Shit =/= Tough.

We've all played those games where no matter what we do, we have a great deal of difficulty getting through somewhere. An example would be the infamous Water Temple of OoT fame.

Share your games you find an ass to get through, be it in terms of bosses, puzzles or sheer difficulty. Optional bosses count in a pseudonomic sense that certain optional bosses are a nightmare to defeat.

To start with, one of the tougher RPGs I've played puzzle-wise would be Alundra for the PS1, and indeed a few of these puzzles make the Water Temple look as complex as a corridor to the final boss. It doesn't help that the actual final boss punts you out his battle chamber the first time you enter, forcing you to find six keys in his castle before fighting him.

Mah Jong Quest 2 because after getting to the last puzzle in their puzzle quest thingy, I couldn't for the life of me solve it after 14 tries in 2 different sittings. >_<

If I get stuck in a game I usually quit playing before I need to ragequit, since I know that if I loose twice or three times in a row on the same level, I'll quickly get so frustrated I have a bigger chance of breaking the remote/PSP/DS than winning the game so I take a break and try again later.
It might be in the memory of one of my old PS2-remotes, which met its end while my brother was playing Jak2 and threw it in the floor in rage, and there have been times (usually while playing the World Ends With You, or if some Pokèmon are using protect too often or get in a critical hit on my Pokèmon...or if Raichu misses 3 times in a row) when I've found myself pushing the DS-screen a bit too far back. :p

Games where this happens a lot...well:
Pokèmon Platinum- when my Pokèmon keep missing or the enemy keep using Protect/Detect.
The World Ends With You- The earliest I remember I had to quit before my DS was in danger of breaking was during the first battle with Sho Minamoto. So time-consuming...
Pokèmon Ruby- I kept loosing to the flying-type gym (before I thought of learning Blizzard to Azumarill to beat up Altaria, and put a Magnemite in my party for a sturdy electric type) and had to do that puzzle over and over again... gah.
Ape Escape 3- any level that requires you to use a car (not the toy car, its fine) or a mecha of sorts. They have the most messed up controls ever... I'm glad the PSP only has one Joystick or I bet I'd have the same problem on Ape Escape P. But there I have another problem caused by my PSP acting stupid and trying to turn the game of all the time.
Final Fantasy Crisis Core- I haven't played in in ages. It was too hard >.< I have no idea what to do next and if I try to go where I think I should go some monster kills me horribly.
Jak 2 Renegade- So I beat the game, and went on to try the hero-mode which is a bit harder. I got to the level where I'm supposed to shoot Krimson Guards flying at me while I sit in a small cart shooting lasers at them. I wished I could just get out of the darn card and blast them with my Peace Maker (especially since I had the invincibility cheat on...but it only applies to Jak himself, not the machines he rides in.)

Disgaea 3 has its own way to relief my stress when I loose, because when the Game Over screen comes up it plays this song:

I can't help but giggle when that song plays.
I still get frustrated so when I loose I level up for an unnecessary long time which caused the final battle to be a cake-walk:p (I had bigger problems against a guy using a shovel as a weapon... or his subordinates really. He was easy once they were dead. SHOVEL. I got him in my party later and he has no special attacks whatsoever and all he can do is attack with the shovel. Its so fun to watch I don't want to give him another weapon XP)

Breathe of Fire V: Dragon Quarter is really difficult for me. D: I never have completed it. The whole dying and resetting on purpose and lack of tokens and everything was really confusing. I felt like the odds were stacked really high against me. I never have made it especially far. It's a shame, because it looks like such an epic game!

The other one was Ephemeral Fantasia. IT ATE SO MUCH OF MY LIFE. Talk abuot a game that tells you nothing. In spite of that, it really is fun, with awesome characters and an intriguing plot... just getting through it and figuring it all out, it's difficult. I've played it about four times for the different endings, and I find tons of things I didn't know existed every time. XD

The new Yoshi's Island is kind of hard. Compared to the first one. Not impossible or anything, but surprisingly challenging. p:

I'll keep it short and sweet: Touhou series. Dodging laser bullets FTMFL.
I can't even remember which goddamn game I was playing, probably Perfect Cherry Blossom or whatever it's called. It may be my apparent lack of hand-eye coordination, but I never even got past the second boss.

Biolizard in sonic adventure 2 battle. I burned through 100 lives to beat it! However, it's final form is a noob, and it's easy after you beat it the first time

Biolizard was ridiculous. Impossible-to-doge energy balls, homing attack on those bubbles/eggs whatever they were, and something about how Shadow controlled made that fight hard. That last hit though, *shudders* navigating through those bubbles and if you get hit twice you get to start the whole process over from the beginning, that just elevated it to levels approaching impossible.

Some of the levels in Super Mario World, notably Tubular. Really, the whole special zone is hard, but Tubular takes the cake for me.

Let's see, what else. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Tabuu anyone? I think I have the boss rush mode beaten on the first two difficulty levels and that's it.

OOT Water Temple actually wasn't that hard for me. I had to consult a guide for the key under the main pillar, but the water level thing was easy to get once you got a feel for the temple layout.

Super Mario world's special zone was also werid, and not worth it. so turtles have bigger heads now, so what? In fact, there kinda creepy...

Tabbu, by himself is easy, but in boss rush mode, he's also a hard boss

I fucking broke my gamecube with Chibi Robo and my GBA with the final level of treasure planet. Sure I was 10 then but yeah...

Hmm, the special world was actually pretty easy, imo. It's just the one with tubes, fire plants, balloons, and football turtles that annoyed me to no end.

Tubular... *shudders*

But Ninja Gaiden 2 is the hardest game I've ever played and the only game that I've never finished the hardest difficultly on that I own.

it might have been a glitch, but I had a game that set you back to level 1 every time you beat a boss and went to another area. I am really not sure what was going on, though.

X-Com: Terror From the Deep, you could blow your entire summer trying to beat that game. Don't get me started on the cruise ship missions either.

street fighter 3 solely because of the cheap fucking son of a whore gill

You know you could have dodged the blue energy balls by rolling under them? Obviously dodging the ones aimed at the ground was as simple as jumping over them. But I'd have to agree, went through several lives trying to bring the bastard down.

hmm....I'm pretty sure it's a different game, but now, I'm going with Portal

too many damn puzzles >.<

Yeah, but you had to time it right, and by the time Shadow got up after rolling, I'd end up facing another ball. Yeah it was all about getting the rhythm down, but it took a while to get that rhythm.

Contra 4, and I loved every minute of it.

I'd say any Call of Duty game on Veteran or the original Ninja Gaidan on the NES. All these years and i'm still unable to beat it.
