Remember ALL the way back to the Kanto episode “The School of Hard Knocks” where Ash actually shows attraction to a girl when he saw her picture, when Misty’s Starmie lost to a Graveler and Pikachu defeated a Cubone without electric attacks?

Well right before the boy named Joe battled Misty with Weepinbell and lost to Starmie after only ONE Water Gun that should have been hardly effective at all he was battling against her gym on a Pokemon Simulator. He easily defeated Starmie after only one attack on that “game” but then lost after only one attack when he actually battled her.

Now, the point that I am trying to make is that since we play the video games that is just like us playing the role of Joe and only battling on a simulator.

If we were in the real Pokemon world, it is needless to say that raising and training Pokemon will take a lot more skill and effort. Imagine if Pokemon took nearly forever to evolve unlike the game where you can do it in an hr. or less depending on where you are in the game and the level that your opponents are.

Feeding Pokemon is something that you would have to do along with dealing with Water Pokemon fighting on land or using Fire types while Surfing lol Waling long distances, actually taking a long time getting to where you need to be instead of beating the league (and entire game) within a few days.

Think of all of the different things that we would have to experience that we could never even fathom in the games. Like a Pidgey being able to Fly us anywhere we want to go, I would like to see how that would really play out with a person around 100+ pounds. A Wailord actually being used in battle on land…now that would really be something to think about.

What are some things that you think would be different if we actually traveled like they do in the anime compared to the games that we play?

Surfing between cities. I don't think a tiny Squirtle or Remoraid would be able to cross a vast ocean with the weight of a trainer in the Anime compared to the games. Short to medium distances make sense, but nothing too extravagant.

Haha, the same for a Zigzagoon lol I would loved to see a surfing Snorlax with a trainer on its back or a Hydgreion surfing for that matter.

I always thought the trainer would just cling to the Pokémon if it's too tiny to sit on.

Yeah, I thought about that once or twice but I also thought about how their clothes and all would get wet or something.
That's a small thing to worry about, when you might drown after trying to swim between islands all by yourself and getting exhausted.

True, it would be best to use a strong swimmer like Poliwrath or Golduck or for a Pokemon to actually ride on or sit like Lapras or Gyarados.

How about battling while surfing, while using pokemon that aren't water-types? I love my Luxray, but I doubt it'd be able to battle effectively in the middle of the ocean. Electric type or not.

Good point lol it could use Magnet Rise to "levitate" perhaps not to mention Pokemon using Earthquake in the water, I mean that one time when Brock's parents battled Earthquake caused a tidal wave which Marill turned into a Surf attack so battling and surfing at the same time is pretty tough. Another thing, what if the Pokemon that you are surfing on is the one that is doing the battling and there are no rock pillars or dry land for the trainer to stand on?

Also, if the Pokemon using Surf gets defeated in battle and unlike the games it can't use HM moves in the field in order to not surf and get you where you want to go...

So many possibilities that can effect the way we travel, battle and raise Pokemon as opposed to the games.

Perfect Opportunity to perfect your balancing skills!

Hope you know how to swim. >:)

But, personally, despite the drawbacks, I'd rather raise Pokemon like the anime, rather than waltz around magically (and quickly) like they do in the games. Not to mention, in the anime, battles are more flexible. You can be more creative, rather than just going "Tackle!" *wait for your next turn* "Tackle!"

Battling itself would be awesome in like a eral life/anime scenario. Less boring the games, you can't do many creative moves in the games. Like Buizel's ice aqua jet, or the counter shield .

Well there i something you have to put into retrospect. If pokemon actually existed, it would be like your training a dog, dolphin, or a bear, whatever kind of animal, it takes time. But you also have to think as well, a lot of the training methods used in the show, is completely fictional.

Actually traveling like they do in the anime.

I choose this because the other option, how it would work in the game, just screams "easy button" to me. Honestly, I think they speed things up in the video game, because in game time, you can "finish" it and beat the elite four in perhaps 30 hours? I don't exactly recall the average time so there's a guesstimate.

Of course, many things are omitted from the game like eating and sleeping, but even with those factored in, the game still would be way shorter than if you were to compare it to real life. Besides, all the traveling would be fun IMHO and much more rewarding to take greater care of your Pokémon.

Plus, if you ever lost a battle, you wouldn't loose money. :ching:

Posh! Posh! The traveling life, the traveling life for me!
I would love raising creatures that can do nearly anything with me!!!

D: But if I'm playing the game - I feel less guilty for having HM slaves!

BUT - it'd be easier to catch stronger Pokemon if you get to keep the Pokeball after releasing them...

Anime, no question.

You don't have people in your face being all "Gym badges? I don't know about no gym badges but you'd better buy a RAGECANDYBAR. And no you cannot pass."

I must say, after not being active since about March- everyone here except for two I have never seen before. If anyone remembers me, I am back. Anyway, each is quite uniquein its own essential way. If the anime was too much like the games, the show would have horrible plot and development. Little tidbits of the gaming style are added in with characters like Paul, but should and have been kept to a mininmal. In the games, if food was included and was as realistic as possible, we might as well be playing Nintendogs or Tamagachi (if anyone remembers).

By each being different, avid Pokemon fans can enjoy both experiences equally. While there is some truth that the anime can get corny and impossible (in a Pokemon sense [not real life]), isn't that the part of the show that while not be heavily favored by most, gives the anime it's unique flavor?

Didn't really read the OP since it was long, and not entirely sure if this response is exactly relevant, but I will say this.

Playing in HGSS I honestly felt a lot more of a connection to my pokemon. Having my pokemon walk around with me and actually seeing them I really did feel like I bonded with them. At least a bit more like what it would feel like in real life. Still upset they got rid of that. Didn't feel that way with Yellow, but then again I was 9 or so, but also it was just one pokemon and I couldn't see them all.

How about using water Pokemon to battle on land where there is no water nearby? I understand Politoad and Poliwag and such but Goldeen and Feebas? (and Magikarp if you count it but it does nothing anyway) Unless they bust a Maggyo and somehow last long on land.
