When it comes to art, I like to absorb random art styles,
usually sticking with one for about a year. A little while
ago I decided to try to get Sugmori and the Pokémon
anime's art style. Here's a doodle:

(The result, I think, is actually not that bad, considering
that I can't draw people--since I was eight I've been able
to draw still life, landscapes, and so on relatively well, but
never animals or people. :()

From left-to-right by rows:

  1. 10-year-old boy?
  2. Just some woman--maybe #1's mother?
  3. Fat boy! I don't like this guy's left arm, but it's just a
    first-time doodle. :P
  4. A miner/archeologist guy? I just remembered that this
    style has more than one kind of eye. >_< Maybe
    narrower eyes would've suited him better.
  5. A young girl on a baseball team. (I wasn't thinking about
    Casey at all while drawing this. Really. >_<) I don't like her
    left hand and arm, but the right hand I like. Unfortunately,
    no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get the right elbow to
    look good. So I left it out.
  6. Princess Peach--I've drawn Mario and Luigi caricatures before
    but not her. Had to refer to Super Smash Bros. Melee. I like how
    the right hand turned out, but the placement of her shoulders
    irks me. And I still can't draw elbows.
  7. Yoshi!

What d'you all think? Please keep in mind that I'm not used to
drawing people at all. >_<

Man I would have to say you are very talented. Especially since you say "You can't draw people". Well your as good or better than me at drawing them. Thats sad for me considering thats like all I ever draw. lol, with a little more practice an I'd say that you could draw Pokemon characters about perfect. Do you have any drawings from characters from the anime? If so I'd like to see them.

@GuitarHero: Yeah, I'll try that. It's more difficult for me, though, because having to make an already-made character look right is hard. :P
@Kasumi: It's not that I'm really influenced by Sugmori--it's just his turn. I like to absorb random art styles; I usually stick with one for about a year. But for this one, perhaps I'll linger with it longer, because it's the first time I found out I can draw people who don't look deformed--and it's a lot more fun than I thought. It's a lot easier expressing a story with things that are alive and moving, and I think I'll revel in that newfound ecstasy.

I really like them! You need work on the hands and the way the arm bends but you've generally have got it down . . (I mean, who has perfected hands, really? they're so obnoxious!) but yeah, they're really good.

Keep drawing!!
