Hey everyone whats happening?

I would like to know how you guys rank the Generations(Not including the remakes, FireRed, SoulSilver, etc.) in terms of their gameplay, but I'd also like to see how you guys rank the generations in terms of the pokemon they featured.

I'll show you what I mean.
As far as gameplay:
1.Diamond/Pearl
2.Gold/Silver
3.Blue/Red
4.Ruby/Sapphire
5. Black/White

The pokemon they featured:
1Red/Blue
2Ruby/Sapphire
3Gold/Silver
4Black/White
5Diamond/Pearl

As you can see DP is my favorite in terms of gameplay. They had my favorite pokedex and the pokeApps were awesome. As far as the new pokemon DP featured I wasn't impressed. They aren't awful and I don't dislike them. It was like a class of all C students. Actually, I thought everything about DP was great except the pokemon. BW gameplay seemed way too easy. Even though it has the worst pokemon of all time in my opinion(Garbador) and the worst starters, some of the BadAss final evolutions saved it from the bottom of both lists. I got RB when I was 9 and I see nothing but perfection in the first 151. GS perfected gameplay on Gameboy Color with the internal clock. Honestly its a toss up for the 2 spot between GS n RS on the pokemon rankings. Both had great pokemon

What do yous think?

Generation-wise, my favorite is Gen 5. It featured so many much-needed enhancements to the series, along with an epic new story and making my goals of competitive battling much more possible due to easier and faster training.

Pokemon-wise, my favorite is still Generation 3. Besides Luvdisc, nearly every new Pokemon they brought to this game is extremely unique, well-designed, and very fun to use.

In order, my favorite generations as a whole are:
Black/White
Diamond/ Pearl
Gold/Silver
Ruby/Sapphire
Red/Blue (mostly because I don't remember those games that much)

and as for the Pokemon they had:
Gen 4
Gen 5
Gen 1
Gen 2
Gen 3

Its actually hard to choose to put them in order like that!

Favorite Generations

Gameplay
Gen 3 (What got this was Emerald. In one word: EPIC)
Gen 5 (The story was a bit different then usuall, but the battle system was great. Fell in love with it.)
Gen 4 (This and Gen 1 was pretty close, but the one that made it earn this one, is this is where my great team was built.)
Gen 1 (Great game, but not quite as good as Gen 4.)
Gen 2 (Mostly 'cause I never played it.)

Pokemon
Gen 2 (The Pokemon introduced in that Gen were EPIC, plus the sprites do nothing but add to the points.)
Gen 3 (The Pokemon were awesome, and the sprites were pretty good, almost as creative as Gen 2. But why #2? 'cause they are not as good as Gen two)
Gen 5 (The Pokemon were pretty good, but the sprites won this spot.)
Gen 1 (Blah, I don't know what to say about the Pokemon. What I can say is that the sprites were horrible.)
Gen 4 (The Pokemon were totally fine, but the sprites for them SUCK.)

Gameplay
1. BW - I MUST say that I LOVED the Team Plasma & N arc
2. RSE - one word - STEVEN
3. HGSS - The Rocket Executives were fun to get rid of
4. DPPt - It kinda took too long for me to get around...
5. FRLG - I don't really like it anymore. Maybe it's because I played it way too many times and know what's going to happen where.

Pokemon wise
1. DPPt - Has my FAV pokes and I could make the best team without having to worry about anything else. I HAVE MY TEAM OF 6 DECIDED!!
2. RSE - GARDEVOIR!!!
3. HGSS - Typhlosion lolz. But I feel like I'm abusing dear Cindy too much.
4. FRLG - For the nostalgia
5. BW - honestly... they're still ugly to me XDD Useful, but their designs don't appeal as much as the other gens.

This proved to be quite difficult...

Gameplay.

1. RSE. (I felt that two teams was an awesome idea, having a Dad, surfing so much it hurt, Dive, Contests, Berries, and so much more appealed to me.)
2. BW. (I felt it had quite a bit to offer for training my 'mons.)
3. HGSS. (Loved it, but oh Dark Cave almost killed me...)
4. DPPt (Team Galactic was fun, but everything else didn't interest me as much.)
5. FRLG (Only here, because I can't remember half of it.)

Pokemon.

1. BW. (Probably as I felt more attached to my team than I used to this time...)
2. FRLG.
3. HGSS.
4. RSE. (Some of them I adored, but Wurmple, Zigazoon, Poochyena, wut? Oh, and Lombre was disgusting looking.)
5. DPPt. (Loved Budew and few others, but the rest, eh...)

Gameplay? Pretty easy choice for me:

1. Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald - still the best set of Pokemon games to date. Very easy to just turn on and have fun. They had pretty great starters and solid selection of wild Pokemon. Hoenn was a great region with many different sceneries and unique cities (who doesn't remember Fortree?), as well as secrets just waiting to be discovered (the Regi quest, Bike-only locations, Abandoned Ship, Meteor Falls and more). Interface and software changes improved the gameplay dramatically over it's predecessor. It's amazing how many people underestimate the impact of things like the new Box system, improved framerate, or even the running shoes on the actual enjoyment of the game.
2. HeartGold / SoulSilver - a textbook example of how one should do remakes. GameFreak just put so much effort into improving the gameplay over it's originals. And the final result is nothing short of amazing. I particularly feel in love with all those little, seemingly unimportant details like walking Pokemon, PokeWalker, Voltorb Flip, the sounds of flowing water or great, colourful sprites. Oh, and the new Kanto was stunning!
3. Red / Blue / Yellow - my first game was Blue, so yeah, I feel pretty nostalgic about this generation in general. Very nice region, amazing music and excellent Pokemon - that's all there is to be said about the generation that captured the imagination of every second primary school student at the time.
4. Diamond / Pearl / Platinum - the only set of games which plot I consider to be even remotely good. The region, torn in half by a giant, unwelcoming mountain, just gave you this mysterious feeling. Team Galactic, who at first appeared to be a bunch of misguided fanatics, had a psychotic leader who just oozed EVIL. Beating him on Spear Pillar and capturing Dialga/Palkia/Giratina, was one of the most intense moments this series had to offer. Aside from that, Sinnoh games had pretty awesome starters and interesting selection of wild Pokemon (although the D/P Dex got a short end of the stick). It was also a generation that introduced Wi-Fi. I would be on par with RBY and HGSS, but the horrible framerate and not-so-amazing new Pokemon pushed it down on the list.
5. Gold / Silver / Crystal - I never understood my peers who were all over this generation. Maybe because I was one of the few at my school who played generation 1 before this one. Maybe. But I know for the fact, that even as a little kid, I thought RBY were just flat-out better games. I actually hated the new Pokemon, which were way too cute for my tastes, and I was quite disappointed with the "nerfed" Kanto. It resulted in me restarting the game immediately after beating the League, and while Johto itself was a pretty nice region, it felt really small compared to RBY Kanto.
6. FireRed / LeafGreen - the most shameless cash squeezer I have ever seen. Seriously, what was the point of these games? What did they improve, besides graphics? And don't mention Sevii Island, they sucked. GF could easily put the missing 186 Pokemon in RSE if they wanted, GBA carts had more than enough space to do that. RBY weren't even 10 years old to warrant a remake for goodness sake.
7. Black / White - I'm tired of making posts about B/W suckiness, so let me just say - never again, GameFreak. Never again.

Pokemon? That'll be much harder...

1. 1st Gen - I don't buy any of the arguments about seemingly unoriginal designs of RBY Pokemon. They had a lot of personality behind them, and are neither too cute nor too outlandish.
2. 3rd Gen - it is a bit of hot and cold generation for me. I either totally hate them (Whismur, Spinda, Makuhita) or totally love them (Swampert, Latios, Flygon...), very little designs fall somewhere in-between. It also hosts the largest % of my favourite Pokemon (3 out of 4), that's why it gets the second place.
3. 5th Gen - some designs felt, well, a bit too "inspired" by generation 1 if you know what I mean, but otherwise it had many memorable Pokemon, with Dragon-types being particularly excellent. Too bad the starters weren't one of them :(
4. 4th Gen - way too many evolutions, some of which ruined perfectly good looking Pokemon like Yanma or Rhydon, and way too many legends (Regigigas? Really?).
5. 2nd Gen - all those saccharine cute Pokemon make me want to puke.

Gameplay
1.Platinum - Good challenging gym leaders, an interesting evil team in a mysterious and picturesque region. I am never going to get sick of this game.
2.HGSS - Probably the most whimsical game, but still very enjoyable. The evil team plot is simple but not overwrought, and the Johto region has great atmosphere. In my opinion, has the best post-game content and longevity of any game.
3.Black/White - Had a very hyped plot, which I felt was little more than the usual excuse plot in disguise. Pathetic gym leaders, too linear region and bad post-game content. Brilliant overworld graphics, seasons, "fresh-start" feel and unique "evil" team leader compensate somewhat though.
4.Emerald - Hoenn region is diverse and interesting, and the journey not too linear. Magma/Aqua were pretty wimpy, but their conflict was interesting at least.
5.Yellow - Tying into the ongoing anime gave it neat novelty value. Has all the usual first-gen problems, but still a memorable game.

Pokemon
1. Diamond/Pearl/Platinum
2. Black/White
3. Gold/Silver/Crystal
4. Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
5. Red/Blue/Yellow
I tend to assess Pokemon as individuals rather than constituents of the region/game they debuted in, so the game rankings simply describe which games debuted the most of my favourites rather than the average quality.

Game Play:

1 - DP/Platinum
2 - Black and White
3 - RS/Emerald
4 - GS/Crystal
5 - RBG/Yellow

Pokemon Wise:

1 - Black and White (Bugs everywhere)
2 - DP/Platinum (Cool evolutions)
3 - RBG/Yellow (Originals)
4 - RS/Emerald (Good, but not thaat good)
5 - GS/Crystal (99% of Johto pokémon are ugly)

Wow awesome comments guys... I thought ranking the games Pokemon-wise was the hardest of the two.

the Original 151 will always be the best to me because they were the first.

I use the 151 as the standard to judge all other pokemon. Bulbasaur was my first pokemon ever. Metapod was my first evolved pokemon. Accidentally used my first Master ball on the first legendary bird I saw, Zapdos. All on the big, gray original Game Colt. I bet some of you have never even seen them n person

I'm surprised only one other person puts the original pokedex at the top of the list. And Shiny Shinx and PokeLegend, Gold and Silver was the only other gen I could perhaps consider the best. Noctowl, Ledian, Ursaring, Dunsparce. Dunsparce!!!

Pokemon Wise:

1 - Black and White (Bugs everywhere)

BW definitely had the best bug pokemon!! Scolipede! Galvantula! Get outta here!
