I've just started playing Pokemon Sapphire for the first time in forever.
I'm about to fight Winona. I'm not sure about my team, and was wondering if I could get help, suggestions, et cetera.

Swampert (Male) - Lvl 36
HP: 120 ATK: 96
DEF: 78 SP. ATK: 72
SP. DEF: 71 SPD: 54

Tackle, Take Down, Mud Shot, Water

Ninjask (Male) - Lvl 26
HP: 77 ATK: 62
DEF: 34 SP. ATK: 38
SP. DEF: 32 SPD: 81

Leech Life, Cut, Fury Cutter, Fury Swipes

Numel (Female) - Lvl 17
HP: 48 ATK: 28
DEF: 16 SP. ATK: 28
SP. DEF: 20 SPD: 19

Growl, Tackle, Ember

Swellow (Male) - Lvl 29
HP: 79 ATK: 60
DEF: 45 SP. ATK: 40
SP. DEF: 37 SPD: 82

Peck, Wing Attack, Endeavor, Quick Attack

Machoke (Male) - Lvl 31
HP: 99 ATK: 69
DEF: 45 SP. ATK: 40
SP. DEF: 45 SPD: 41

Low Kick, Seismic Toss, Rock Smash, Strength

Kirlia (Male) - Lvl 27
HP: 67 ATK: 27
DEF: 29 SP. ATK: 42
SP. DEF: 37 SPD: 37

I also have a Gyarados. I'm having troubles. Because I need him for his ability to Surf. But with him in my team, I would have to drop Numel, which should be good as a fire Pokemon as Camerupt (tell me if I'm wrong).

Gyarados (Male) - Lvl 26
HP: 91 ATK: 77
DEF: 51 SP. ATK: 39
SP. DEF: 59 SPD: 48

Surf, Tackle, Bite, Dragon Rage

Please, give suggestions and rip my team to shreds. Any Pokemon under lvl 28 is under heavy training.

Just where are you in the game? I assume you're between gyms 5 and 6, and as such, you don't have great access to moves that can improve your team at this time. But there are a few things you can do...

First of all, Ninjask just has a hard time getting by without Silver Wind, one of its egg moves. I'm not saying drop Ninjask, mind you, I'm just saying it may give you a rocky time during training. Once you have access to Mt.Pyre, you can teach it Shadow Ball, and using gym 6's TM will also help it. TM 28, Dig, is located in Fallarbor Town. There's a house with young boy standing at the back of the room. Talk to him, and he'll give you the TM.

Machoke is also tough to train maingame. The lack of good Fighting-type moves early on will hinder its battle success. Perhaps you should save the training for postgame...Actually...after lookig at its moveset, it gets Vital Throw at 33, which is okay. It can be a good member of your team, I suppose.

If you have a spare 80,000 units o' cash to spare, you can sink them into 4000 coins at the Mauville casino and outright buy a TM 35 for your Numel. TM 35, Flamethrower, will greatly help it with training.

If you go back to Lavaridge and go up Mt.Chimney to retrieve the meteorite, you can trade it to a scientist in Fallarbor Town for TM 27, Return. He's in one of the houses near the Pokemon center. I would recommend teaching this to Swellow, as the base gets to 102, not counting STAB.

Swampert's fine, I suppose. Just teach it Ice Beam and Muddy Water or Surf, so that it has a powerful move to utilize until Earthquake comes along the way. It learns Muddy Water in 3 levels, so it won't take an exorbitant amount of time and training to get the move.

If you want Gyarados in...I say drop Machoke. It's hard for Machoke to reach full potential maingame, and Gyarados may come more in handy in say, an upcoming battling with Winona. Really, though...I'd keep Gyarados out and use Swampert for Surf.

Hope I've helped.
