So, I've been getting my hands on some fairly good pokemon lately, through a combination of trades and sheer luck. I don't have many, but I think I have the makings of a solid team. How does it look?

Skarmory@Shed Shell
Impish nature
Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP / 64 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spe
-- Brave Bird
-- Whirlwind
-- Spikes/Stealth Rock
-- Roost

A rather standard spiker. I don't know how it will work for a lead, but with Whirlwind, I've got a chance of getting rid of any other setup leads before they can lay down their own setup. Also works as a physical wall later on in the game.

Alakazam@Life Orb/Choice Scarf
Modest nature
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk / 4 Sp. Def / 252 Spe
-- Psychic
-- Calm Mind/Trick
-- Focus Blast
-- Signal Beam

My main special force. I know a lot of people bash Alakazam for it's low HP and Defense, and while those are definitely issues, I think that I can work around them. It's Hidden Power type is Grass, so I can't stick another Hidden Power type on there. Calm Mind + Life Orb = massive damage, especially if I can get one in on the switch (Alakazam should scare plenty of things off). Choice Scarf is another route, since this one is Modest, and if I go that route, Trick becomes handy.

Scizor@Iron Plate/Life Orb
Adamant nature
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe
-- Swords Dance
-- Bullet Punch
-- Brick Break/Superpower
-- Quick Attack

The physical beast. Personally, the Attack and defense drop of Superpower is kinda a turnoff, so Brick Break is a good option. Quick Attack for priority on things that resist Steel and are hit neutrally by the Fighting-type move. Life Orb is only if I go with Choice Scarf on Alakazam.

Heracross@Flame Orb
Jolly nature
Guts
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
-- Pursuit
-- Swords Dance
-- Aerial Ace
-- Megahorn

I really don't know what to do with this guy...basically, a Guts'd revenge killer. Send it in on something that it'll scare out, then surprise them with Pursuit. Swords Dance when I can, Megahorn for STAB, and Aerial Ace to take down things like Breloom.

Vaporeon@Leftovers
Bold nature
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe
-- Wish
-- Surf
-- Protect
-- Ice Beam

My special wall. I'm not sure what Hidden Power type it has, but I THINK it's Electric -- in that case, I may just put it over Protect. I almost want to put Baton Pass somewhere on here for some team healing, but I don't know where.

My last slot could go to either of these two:

Absol@Scope Lens
Naughty nature
Super Luck
EVs: 252 Atk / 40 SpA / 216 Spe
-- Sucker Punch
-- Superpower
-- Fire Blast
-- Psycho Cut

I've always wanted to use an Absol, and a mixed set has also always appealed to me. Superpower here is another reason I'm hesitant to put it on Scizor, but Sucker Punch is amazing on Absol, especially if it lands critical. Psycho Cut is for coverage, and Fire Blast is for everything else.

OR

Weavile@Choice Band
Adamant nature
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
-- Pursuit
-- Night Slash
-- Ice Shard
-- Brick Break

I caught Rakki wild, so I can't get Ice Punch, but MAN was she a lucky catch! Perfect Attack IVs AND Speed IVs of 28 or 29. I'd REALLY like to use her, and I think she'd be best used as either a late-game sweeper or as a Revenge Killer. Personally, since this team has a lot of physical sweepers, I think I'm more in need of a revenge killer. This set is pretty standard.

Comments and critiques welcome. I know I'm a bit heavy on the physical side of things, but other than that, I think this team feels rather solid. Then again, I could be horribly wrong.

Team looks good in theory, but theory is often wrong.
I assume shed shell is for magnezone ? Its to rarely seen to waste an item on imo

I like the mixed absol, never saw one before :)

Absol is a great idea. May I recommend using the Toxic orb for Heracross- Burn lowers your attack.

Hm...well, what do you recommend I put on Skarmory? I'd like to have different items on all my pokemon in case someone who plays with Item Clause comes along.

If you have Guts, the attack drop is ignored -- your attack gets strengthened instead. Glad you like the Absol, though.

More help is always appreciated.

This team is so perfect. For Alakazam, I would use the Trick+Choice Scarf combo.

Wow...thanks. ^_^

I could really use some help with Heracross and actually deciding between Absol and Weavile, though. Anyone have any thoughts on those specifically?

I like Absol a lot and would love to see you use one. However, his extreme frailty and lack of speed really hurt a lot. I've had a little luck in OU with a similar set (Night Slash over Sucker Punch) that held a Scarf instead.

Hm...so, do you think I should put Life Orb on Alakazam, Iron Plate on Scizor, and a Choice Scarf on Absol? Glad you like the set -- I really like Absol a lot too.

Have you tested this? It seems like your Skarmory will be ruined by any kind of trick scarf or taunt lead.

No, I haven't tested this. Are leads like that extremely common? I thought 'suicide' leads were all the rage. And I was never sure how it would work out as a lead, but then again, I'm not sure which of these pokemon would work as a lead.

EDIT: Just checked, and my Vaporeon's Hidden Power type IS Electric. I don't know how I should fit that onto the set, though...Protect is useful for Wish, but Surf and Ice Beam are my only special moves outside of Alakazam and possibly Absol's Fire Blast. Obviously I don't want to get rid of Wish...

I've encountered quite a few trick scarf leads and taunt leads on Shoddy. That's just me though, and I have a pretty low ladder rank (especially since I haven't played in quite a while..).

I will tell you that it completely walls my current lead, but as soon as HGSS comes out that will change.

Care to help me test it when I get them all EV'd and raised up? I'd like to give this group some field testing when they're ready.

Like Missingno said, Trick leads are very common on Shoddy but not really else where. People still sort of crave suicide leads but that seems to be dying down and people are taking over the Trick lead. Although I really love the Trick lead Azelf, I sometimes keep an extra trick Pokemon around so just watch out for that. Pokes like Skarm are an easy bait for a Trick Poke.

Now onto the team.

Skarm- I suggest running Lefties and SR.
Zam-Run Trick+Choice Specs set. Some people will NOT let you set up more then 1 CM as he is known for weak ass stats in def. Plus Trick Pokes can make people rage and screw over a lot of teams.
Sizor-Run Life Orb+Roost over Quick Attack. With 2 SD's up you can totally rape shit and you might need Roost.
Vaporeon-HP-Elec will work only by taking out Ice Beam. Wish+Protect seems to be all the craze now days so yeah >_>. If you really need HP-Elec and Ice Beam I guess it would be best to take out Protect but it will cripple you at times.
Heracross set seems alright. You could try the Swarm set with Sub, SD, Close Combat and I think Megahorn and Yache Berry or something.
As for the revenge killers I've ran both. Honestly Weavile's speed is what makes you want it and Absol's critical hax chance is also what makes you want him. So really it's down to what you want but both work very well as revenge killers. I personally used Weavile more just because it's faster.

Idk hope this helped at least a little bit.

Can't you use Shoddy? I mean I'll be glad to, but you can hop on shoddy and test it right now if you want to. That way if there is something terribly wrong you won't have wasted all that time training in game.

To be honest, I don't know how to use Shoddy...I think I tried downloading it once, but something went wonky. Maybe I wasn't downloading the Mac version, I don't know.

@insomciac:

For Skarmory, I chose Shed Shell just in case someone who plays with Item Clause comes along. But the more I look at it, the more it looks like Lefties will be the better item.

I chose Choice Scarf mainly because this Alakazam's speed is a bit worse than his special attack. But Trick does seem to be getting the best response...I'll try it.

Hm...you have a point with Roost on Scizor. For Heracross...yeah. I didn't breed him -- I obtained him in a trade. What use would a Yache Berry be, though? I don't think Heracross is weak to Ice...

To be honest, I think I WILL run HP Electric over Protect on Vaporeon. I need all the special offense I can get on this team, and Vaporeon can take hits well enough if I predict well.

I didn't intend to use Absol as a revenge killer, but more of as a mixed general threat. Weavile WOULD make the better revenge killer, but that's not what I'd use Absol for. I'll test both of them out.

If you need help with Shoddy I can walk you through it and battle you with my team.

Umm I get the berries mixed up a lot so yeah sorry about that, but I meant to say Salac Berry ;_;
For Vaporeon. I think people run HP Elec just so they can hit other Vaporeons, Gyarados, or some other water type. I never really found a use for HP Elec other then just for Vaporeon or Gyarados.
Well I pretty much used every Absol and Weavile set ever made on Smogon so yeah their both very good Pokemon. Whatever set and Poke works best for your team strategy, use it as it will help you in the long run.

Oh, I think you're out of luck if you're using a Mac unfortunately.
