Rate my Recolors and Splices

Ok so I stumbled across a spriter's guide on another site looking for something else. I decided to try my hand at spriting and did some recolors and splices. I wonder what you all think.

By the way, here is my latest, the 3rd one I have ever done in my life... yours are much better than this.

Thank you, but again I can't see your splice. How are you putting it in your post? What I do is upload the sprites to my own album and then use the bb code in the album. Try that.

There are a few very basic errors, but don't worry, every single spriter makes them when they're just starting off. The first problem is the colours - they're default colours, and it is strongly advised that they aren't used for spriting as they have unpleasant contrasts and offer little variety. Instead, try double clicking on the colour, going into 'define custom colours' and picking one for yourself. On the shade bar on the right, move the cursor down so it's nearer the bottom, this will be your darkest shade. Draw a dot on the canvas in that colour. Then, double click on it again, and make another slightly lighter shade, and make a dot. Keep doing so until you have enough shades to fully recolour your sprite. Your sprite will have a more smooth looking colour scheme, and will look more authentic, like this:

Sorry to sound critical, but it's an important step to becoming a good spriter. Your splices look a lot better than the recolours, I personally like the top one, and wouldn't have guessed it was done by a beginner. Overall, keep it up, the fusions are brilliant for a beginner but the recolours need some work. Best of luck.
