Prepare for interesting new challenges in Rating Battle Season 5 and Season 6!

This week marks the beginning of Season 4's special regulation Inverse Battles. Now take a look at some of what’s planned for Seasons 5 and 6, coming soon.

Season 5—Scheduled to begin July 15
In Rating Battle Season 5, your matches will be 6-on-6 Single Battles, with no items allowed. These battles will be based on rules like those used in the first generation of Pokémon games for the Game Boy: Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version. Use the six Pokémon in your party to their fullest in this challenge!

Season 6—Scheduled to run from the middle of September until November
Compete in Double Battles with no top-ranking Pokémon in Season 6. All Pokémon which placed in the top twelves places in the final rankings for Rating Battles and Double Battles in Seasons 1-4, plus those from midway through Season 5 (mid-August), will be prohibited from use. When you can't use the Pokémon that are always showing up in the top rankings, which Pokémon will you choose?! There should be some real surprises awaiting you in these Pokémon battles.

Season 5? No items, no thanks.

Season 6? YES. Time for our non-top tier favourites to shine!

-Of these banned potential-Mega, things like Tyranitar, Gardevoir, Garchomp, and Gyarados are frequently used without the ability to Mega Evolve in doubles (not that this little tidbit matters since they're banned anyway)

Why isn't Blaziken on that list xD

I'm thinking the majority of people opting for Mega Kangaskhan results in Blaziken's usage being suppressed simply because Kangaskhan is chosen over it (even though regular Blaziken can hold its own....)

Regular Blaziken is actually better than MBlaziken, IMO

Other than the increase in speed (apparently helps in PO) and lack of recoil, I think that as well. I've never chosen Mega Blaziken over regular in battle. I don't know, maybe its Talonflame that's suppressing its usage? Either way, whatever is suppressing it in Wifi is going to be gone so we'll have to deal with that....unless people in general just don't like using Blaziken in Wifi? Mega Lucario's not on there either.

I'm glad the majority of my Trick Room team I'm using for May International isn't on there--things like Rotom I'm only using to counter the big threats anyway (well that and Manectric). I'm going to have to replace my Shiny Mawile, but its been used a lot for me so its not that bad.

EDIT: Oh god there's so many more Mega Pokemon I have to deal with :/

At least when it was Kangaskhan and Mawile, those were the ones I had to keep in mind to beat.

I was gonna post a list of what Mega Pokemon are left but I found that there are still many more of them around. :p Kinda surprised about Mega Lucario not showing up even once but I'm not well-versed in Double Battles. There's a chance that Blaziken gets popular in Season 5, with Mega Pokemon not being usable he'll have a chance to stand out and get banned.

I think I may have made a mistake on my chart--I thought it was based on Singles and Doubles but reading it again, it seems like its overall Ratings and Doubles. Not sure how much that affects the overall chart but I'll have an updated one.

I actually haven't seen that many Mega Lucario in doubles. I'd say people opt for Kangaskhan, and then Charizard-Y. I rarely see Mawile, and I've come up against Manectric enough times for it to be a pain.

You'll be happy to know Blaziken is banned when considering overall + double ratings rather than just singles and doubles

Now, let's all machinate to get MLuke banned. Season 6 will become Nintendo-supported Smogon, and the evil Smogonite plan to establish a dictatorship dedicated to sucking the fun out of Pokémon and tricking people into selling their souls and using the dreaded "overused" Pokémon shall be near it's completion! Mwahahahahahahaha!

I'm still praying for Heatran's demise. Wonder if I'll actually start using Mega Lucario since I do like Lucario....I just never use it.

Thundurus, Porygon 2, Breloom, and Latios risk being banned as well based on current Season 4 rankings. I really wish Foongus was there though :/

Porygon2? Seriously? I can see Breloom with its (relatively) fast Spore, Latios with a quick, strong Draco Meteor, and Thundurus with Prankster, but are that many people really using Porygon2

M-Lucario, M-Medicham, M-Manectric, M-Pinsir and M-Scizor are all some big names still out there. It'll be nice to see some people digging so deep to use M-Abomination or M-Bannette.

I don't really know why. I would have thought it'd be more popular in Doubles with a potential Trace/Intimidate support and being a TR-setter that doesn't die to Bisharp but no (not that it matters; Bisharp is getting banned).....but then again I've never seen anyone else use a TR team.

Apparently its being used a lot in the Special Rulings section--makes sense. It's a normal type with great defenses thanks to Eviolite. Evidently that's where Breloom is being used a lot as well.

It's Doubles format, I can see M-Abomasnow work well in Trick Room. Besides, its biggest threat in M-Charizard Y is gone, and nearly every other weather starter is gone as well. I still don't really see the point in choosing M-Banette as your Mega even though there's better chance to not get hit while waiting for Prankster to activate with Mega Evolution even without it wasting a slot on Protect but there's still a lot of good Prankster users out there (that may be even more effective when a couple of those top-tier mons get banned) that don't waste a Mega Evolution slot.
