Hi guys,

I re-watched Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea last night and it got me thinking. At the start there is the normal bit about all the Legendary Pokemon. It is the clip about Rayquaza that confused me. The only time that I thought Rayquaza has been shown was in Movie 7 - Destiny Deoxys. However this Rayquaza was attacked by what can only be describes as missiles and then captured by Team Rocket. Was this ever an episode? Or was it just something for the start of the movie?

It was the writers torturing Team Rocket fans with the three characters we all want to see come back.

Sadly, that's probably all we'll ever see of it :(

Rayquaza was never in a regular episode, that thing in Movie 9 was just for the movie.

Considering Ash is off doing whatever, maybe Lance goes to rescue Rayquaza...lol.

Rayquaza was in the illusion episode.
Mismagius made a illusion of Rayquaza and Groudon

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Still wasn't a real Rayquaza though since Mismagius made it up.

Thanks for the replies guys. You have confirmed what I thought, that it was just for the opening of Movie 9 - to represent that some people are "evil" and mistreat/use Pokemon.

Exactly. It was incredibly frustrating since people want to see those three agents return...so they do...but it's for five seconds from the back! Not to mention that it yielded possibly the greatest potential future plot EVER. So if they never come back to that, I'll be so pissed off, and so will pretty much every other Rocket fan out there.

It was just there to portray how humans can abuse Pokémon.

Absolutely nothing was ment for it aside from this one fact. Why on earth people have such a fasincation with that tiny less-then-three-second scene is beyond me.

People are fascinated by it because even if was just meant to portray abuse as you said, it shows Team Rocket with Rayquaza in their possession. Not an attempt to capture it, they actually have it. Also, like everyone else has said, those are three characters that a lot of Rocket fans would like to see come back.

Because of plot potential. If they wanted to do something they could throw away, they could have shown any number of things. Paul is a primary example...

They chose Team Rocket because they are the most famous "antagonst" force in the Pokémon franchise. Everyone who's heard of Pokémon would probably know who Team Rocket is. They also automatically chose the most the coolest, most badass Pokémon at the time (Of the previous generation at least) to show that not even such a beast as this is immune to human abuse.

They didn't intentionally decide to include that scene just so people would obsess over "plot potential". Even if they did, it wouldn't be the first or the last time that the writers included an interesting plot only to throw it away for what they really wanted to show.

They should have used a handful of grunts, then, instead of the cast of the Raikou special.

Except they're standing AWAY from the camera so you never once see an R. If you didn't know them from LoT (or Sebastian from the Red Gyarados episodes), you're not going to know that they're Rockets.

It was just a wink at the audience. You guys are taking this WAY too seriously.

It really sucked Rayquaza did not appear in the Groudon/Kyogre incident in the anime. Instead, we had Johto characters Lance and the Red Gyarados, respectively. And it's not like Team Magma or Team Aqua really did anything significant anyway (out of 90-something episodes, they've appeared in only about 5 of them).
Personally, I believe Advanced Generation is the worst of the three series.

Rayquaza shoulda made it into the GroudonvsKyogre-ness, but I don't see how a crappy evil team/legendaries finale renders the whole series to be the worst. AG was quite good in almost all else.

How is that different than the fact that Sinnoh has 127 total episodes, and Team Galactic have been in a grand total of 6 of them? And two of those eps were 2-parters, so Galactic has only had 4 individual stories thus far.

The writers aren't focusing on the villains anymore this gen than previously, it just seems that way because the actual episodes with them in it are more exciting. And I wouldn't put it past them if their finale winds up being anti-climatic in some way given Movie 12 is doing the legendary stuff instead.
