Now everyone knows battling competitively or just going through the game battling with what moves hit or protect you. But what if Pokemon were real.... what kind of strategies would you imply to your battles?

Just a couple ideas:
Would you use moves that you wouldn't really use in your games?
Would you use Pokemon that aren't the best battlers but great set ups?
Would you not use Pokemon that you would always use in the games?

I'm basing this question somewhat on what I see in the anime... Trainers using Smokescreen, Agility, Double Teams and other various moves that you don't necessarily see taking up 1/4 of the moves a Pokemon can use.

I personally would be using moves like Smokescreen to help distract my opponents and use it to slip around and attack. Or maybe I'd have several Pokemon have Protect or Detect in their arsenal.

Just wondering if I'm alone with planning real life battling scenarios.... Let me know if I'm not

(sorry if i worded this wrong or put this in the wrong area)

I would most certainly use moves I do not use in the game. Smokescreen, double team, recover, future sight and so on.

As for using Pokemon that I don't in the game question I would probably use them. Sometimes its fun to throw a Pokemon out there that would give the other trainer a hard time.

You're not alone in planning real life poke battles. I do it for when I write my short stories. I try to think of no more than four moves that would be useful together. A Pokemon with all attack and no defensive moves can be a waste of talent in real world situations. Then again its how you use those moves.

I would tend to use the cheapest tactics available.

Ask any Pokemon fanfic writers, 90% will have such crazy imagination as the OP. (Including myself)

That's why, a well-written Pokemon fanfic is sometimes more engaging than watching and playing the official Pokemon media.

something like a Harry Potter/Ice Age game comes in mind?
Then battle mechanics would also change.
Strategies would be diffrent.
Something like the new Tournament game but a little more awsome.

Even though there would definitely be a wider range of useful strategies, the anime has shown that a lot of top players use moves and combinations that are commonly accepted as "good" in the games. Of course other times they completely ignore the rules of the games or have 60 power attacks colliding with 100+ power moves and canceling out.

I get the feeling legislation would be passed limiting or banning the use of high power fire, water, electric, and ground type moves. Especially ground. Earthquake would be a civic nightmare

As such, I'll probably be limiting my use of a lot of special moves, relying on single target direct attacks. A little less flashy, not as exciting, but no less effective

In the first place. If Pokemon is real, will they be tamed by mere human..

But if, that happen.. I think I will travel around the world as a merchant with a Vulpix. I won't battle but I will sell berries, food and medicines and be really2 rich XD.

But if I need to battle, I will have one of the Kangaztan with me, on Mega tier. I will pretty much be as OP as possible. O think same strategy as game still can be used, but as merchant, I'll be focus on run away from battle rather than real battle. So Abra with teleport, Ground pokemon with Dig, and Flying pokemon with Fly will be usefull.

Clearly the best answer. Corner the market early on and expand to create a system of tax-paid insta health care facilities around the world to cater to people battling with WMDs with feelings.

Pokemon have been shown being capable of waging war over territory in anime episode XY069: Defending the homeland where they fought in coordinated skirmishes independent from human command.

War was a central theme in Gen 6 where the antagonists at team flare tried to reactivate a derelict super weapon. In the movie where Lucario debuted Pokemon were used for Military purposes.

Given a Pokemon's destructive potential and their ability to act on their own cognizance they would most likely be used for military/utilitarian purposes where logistics would define the scope of battle. Rather than 6 vs 6 the participants of an average Pokemon battle may scale to the thousands.

The average Pokemon trainer might be acting as a soldier much like Lt. Surge
