This is something I remember was vaguely mentioned around the first time we got any true info about X & Y. Recent chat I've seen about the female protagonist being shown onscreen behind the male protagonist, but without her hat and hair looking different, has reminded of Real Play. Apparently it will make the games feel more lively with a new, innovative communication system and feel as if you are playing with others around the world(everyone able to experience it).
There are various reports and mentions around if you want to look for yourself but I like this one as it sort of singles it out:
