Okay, I really need help with my Wireless connection and my DS. It keeps saying that my security settings are not compatible with the Nintendo DS. The router I have is a Linksys, Model No. WRT54G. I am technologically incompetant (sp?), so could someone please tell me how to change the settings so that my Wireless security is at the maximum, but I can use my DS in Wi-Fi?

I tried, but it doesn't have my specific router on it (they all have an extra letter or number). I ended up being more confused.

Your problem is that you have WPA or WPA2 security enabled. The DS is, for reasons beyond mortal understanding, not equipped to deal with the only vaguely secure encryption system available.

WEP security isn't secure. It will keep most folks casual folk out, but anyone who knows a thing or two can break it in under a minute. This is the only security mode that the DS will work with, other than no security at all.

I would like to add, WEP is not really a bad security. Like Lex said, anyone who knows how to crack it would have already attempted something malicious as well [and its usually someone who's trying to get payback, but let's not go there]

If you have a good idea of who your neighbors are, I say go for WEP. I've been using it for a while now so I could use Nintendo Wi-Fi things without having to buy that little adapter. Plus I'm not that worried about the people around me at all so I feel safe enough.

9 times out of 10, all the people you'll find around you are all the casual computer folk. If you live in a house where your neighbors are a good distance away, all the better for less possibility for any possible interference.

So now I ask, do you know your neighbors pretty well?

[none that are computer engineers by day or basement nerds I hope]
