I'm working on DP Trainers List with English names. So, I battle every trainer in every place to make my list complete. I'm always working with Japanese walkthrough which helps me a lot in finding trainers.

I was travelling on Route 224. And Suddenly, a Trainer challenged me.

Her name was Ace Trainer Jamie and she had a Metagross (Lv. 56). Before battle she said that she analyzes battles in her laptop.

I checked Japanese walkthrough. I was amazed when I saw that:
Her Japanese name is HITOMI!

Hitomi, Metagross, Laptop.

She is Hitomi from Movie 7! But stupid NoA called her Jamie instead of Rebecca.

Cool cameo, isn't it?

Very interesting. I recall fighting her, but that didn't click at all. Great find.

Someone mentioned a pair of trainers using Salamence and Kirlia that seemed to be based on them. I haven't gotten to that point in the game, though.

Interesting. And there *was* a Kirlia in their production, so it could have been hers.

Still, my favorite reference to something else was in Sapphire with "Hal and Lois" as a battling pair. But I guess the Malcolm in the Middle people heard about it, because they were renamed in Emerald.

I liked the fact that your mom was constantly watching "Stand by Me" in the original games.

That one is also my favorite. It was in Ruby, too, not just Sapphire.

What? They dont like the free publicity their getting?

Speaking of the Hitomi Cameo, NoA was probably too dense to figure it out.

This reminds me of that Kojirou-wannabe trainer in one of the GameCube games.

So where are these trainers located in DP, anyway?

I believe Butler and Diane also make cameos.

Yes. They do. They are paired with each other using Emerald System.

Butler has Dusclops and Salamance (both Lv 55)
Dyan has Mightyena and Kirlia (both Lv 55)

They are both CoolTrainers (well, Scientist would be more suitable for Butler).

And again, NoA was to dense to notice that. They named them Felix and Dana (yeah, in Japanese version their names are Butler and Dyan).

They appear on Route 229.

They can't copyright names...I mean, if I was to write a book about a group of kids named Ash, Misty, and Brock, nobody could do anything about it.

EDIT: Sorry about the bump, I had gotten the link off Dogasu's Backpack and forgot to check exactly how old this was. ^^

This is very interesting indeed. I've seen one trainer that had a Gym Leader name from a previous generation, but I forgot who it was.

Tell that to the people who dubbed Case Closed. They were forced to change the name from Detective Conan because the people who own the copyright on Conan the Barbarian got all pissy. Never mind that it's an actual human name.

...and yet they were all right with the character on the show retaining the name, just with the show's title. Very pecular.

How is a barbarian anywhere close to a midget detective?
