That is my opinion really.

But I find truth to it.

I watch a few anime, Dragonball Pokemon and Naruto coming to mind.

But the more I watch, the more I realize its all pretty much the same concept.

I have tried more anime, but I get irritated watching it. Shoujos especially.

All I am saying is that every nerd I see likes anime, which is strange.

I am a nerd, but I find myself liking games WAY over anime

Alot of american superheroes I find superi---*shot*

Your problem is that you just watch Dragonball, Pokemon, and Naruto. Long-running anime have a tendency (in my experience, anyway) to become repetitive, then dull, then pointless. There ARE exceptional anime out there, but most of the ones that make it to Cartoon Network don't fall into that category (personally speaking). I'm like you, I PREFER American cartoons and comics to anime and manga (generally speaking, though there are several anime that would rank in a top 10 list of cartoons from any country), but ultimately what manga and anime you like depends upon your personal preferences, and finding something that matches. Astro Boy's a good anime if you're a fan of traditional superheroes, for instance.

Anime isn't lame, it's just that you're probably watching the wrong anime for your personal preferences. It's about finding one that's similar to your tastes in American cartoons, books, video games, or whatever else interests you.

Well, I have watched others, none never really peaking my interest. I watched them in japanese, so its not like Im referring to dubs. Just most of them are flawed.

If anything, manga is better because of the lack of long annoying filler.

I suggest watching something that isn't a weekly produced show. Try Tengen Toppen Gurren Lagann.

Yeah, if you hate fillers, your best bet is finding something short, with a definite end . But, even then, it depends on your personal preferences.

You need to find a 13-26 episode anime. Mediocre shounen and shoujo shows that drag on for 500 episodes with no resolution just aren't that good.

If its too short, I find myself not getting attached.

Meh, I am just not an anime person I guess.

I too find long running anime series to be dull and pointless. At first I loved Naruto and inuyasha, but the longer they dragged the series on, the less interested I became of it, and it became just like any other cartoon show out there. Something I would turn on while doing homework because the background noise helps me study.

Even for Fanfiction I prefer one-shots rather than an entire series.

I never really agreed with the entire labelling of anime as it's own concept.
They're cartoons, people. From Japan, yes, but still cartoons. You don't differ between "Japanese movies" and "non-Japanese movies" or "Japanese games" and "non-Japanese games", so why pretend "anime" and "manga" are somehow different from "cartoons" and "comics"?

They're not really different, but "anime" and "manga" come specifically from Japan and have a distinct art style. Just think of it as some type of sub-genre.

ARGH! Cartoons aren't a genre, they're a medium. >_<

I like cartoons/comics and anime/manga pretty much equally. My preference is more determined by the series than which category it falls in.

Since you like superheroes, try Get Backers. They have powers and it only has about fifty eps total. I've been told the manga's longer but better. Fullmetal Alchemist has powers as well (kinda) and the anime's around the same length.

Ironic that you say anime/manga's too long because I find comic cartoons rather short. There are so many things from the comics they derive from that they skip over. A lot of which would be fun to watch. But I do agree that some anime drags on forever but I watch it anyways. XD

Anime is more of a style than a medium or genre. When people talk about anime as a genre, they're really more talking about shounen and shoujou, which ARE genres.

Nope. They're demographics. D=

To me... anime automatically just equals to Japanese animation & cartoons. That sums it up in my view.
