So I've written a similar one over at Serenes Forest. I publish a list of games that I play, and people can both publish their lists of games that they are thinking of getting, and recommend the past posters' list of games. This would be especially good for those who are unsure whether Games XYZ is worth buying, or whether a new console is worth for their game wishlist. Without further ado, I shall start with the following:

So far I have finished:
  • Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS (both normal and Master)
  • Fire Emblem Awakening (Once; got bored on my second run and stopped in Chapter 16)
  • Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon (Twice: on Normal and Hard)
  • Pokémon Y (except for the remaining 50+ (mainly Gen 3 Pokémon) for the National Pokedex)
  • Pokémon Black 2 (except going to Nuvema Town, the sea routes off Route 1, and Black Tower)

My following list of games that I want to play are the following:
  • Finishing the Pokedex in Pokémon Y (This will be my very first time in the franchise.)
  • Go through the remaining routes in Pokémon Black 2 and the Black Tower (I'm not going to bother with the PWT.)
  • Doing Birthright in addition to Fates Conquest and Revelations
  • Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask 3DS
  • Hyrule Warriors
  • LoZ Link Between Worlds
  • Pokémon not-Fates Conquest (This may or may not help me get some ideas for History of Shoyo...a fanfic for Poke-Japan that I am planning on)

Alternately how would be getting a Wii for the following?
  • The two FE Tellius games (as one is GC and should be compatible with Wii) - apparently I heard that it has a high-level story not seen in other FE entries.
  • LoZ Twilight Princess
  • LoZ Skyward Sword
  • LoZ Wind Waker
  • Pokémon Colosseum
  • Pokémon Gales of Darkness
  • F-Zero GX

I don't have a personal wishlist that I want to put down here, but after being notified that you had created this thread, I'd like to help you on some of the games on your own @henrymidfields! So here goes:
  • If you get Hyrule Warriors, get Hyrule Warriors Legends on 3DS. It's easily the better version of the two, coming with so much more content than the original - basically the only reason to play the original on Wii U now is for the more cinematic and HD experience.
  • A Link Between Worlds is a fantastic title - harking back to the world of A Link to the Past (but changing certain controls if you played that game); though it's a slightly shorter game than most Zelda titles are these days, it's solid nonetheless. The origin of its in-game graphical style is rather amusing to read about, so go check out the Iwata Asks for this game if you're interested.
And as for your Wii stuff...
  • I have a personal beef with Twilight Princess, but don't let that deter you from getting any of the three versions of this game (Wii, GCN, Wii U/HD).
  • Now, while I like Skyward Sword, it's got... a number of issues that aren't even related to fighting the control scheme of the game. It only becomes apparent once you're actually deep into the gameplay, or notice it in hindsight. That being said, it's still not that bad.
  • Wind Waker is fantastic, straight up. Graphics are beautiful, gameplay is crisp, the music is gorgeous, and it's easily my favourite of the GameCube titles - though I must note that I played Wind Waker HD instead on the Wii U, so there were a couple of changes to that title compared to the original; notably, the Triforce Chart quest was reduced from 8 charts down to 3, and the Swift Sail was added in for faster travel.
  • The Orre Pokemon games are interesting bundles, to say the least. I don't have much of a personal opinion on it myself.
  • F-Zero GX requires a bit of commitment to become good at (and unlock everything), but damn if it isn't fun even casually.

That the Wii was nice and cheap new is one of the main things that attracted me to it - buying a second-hand one for three Zelda titles isn't a bad idea. I like all three on the list. Be prepared that with Skyward Sword you will have to pay attention to what you're doing with the Wiimote - I personally didn't have a problem with it, but if you're in the habit of blaming the Wiimote every time you make a mistake you won't like that game. Twilight Princess is good fun. The Wind Waker is my favourite - I played it on GameCube, and though it does have some pacing issues, the cheerful tone makes for a refreshing break

Alternately how would be getting a Wii for the following?
  • The two FE Tellius games (as one is GC and should be compatible with Wii) - apparently I heard that it has a high-level story not seen in other FE entries.
  • LoZ Twilight Princess
  • LoZ Skyward Sword
  • LoZ Wind Waker
  • Pokémon Colosseum
  • Pokémon Gales of Darkness
  • F-Zero GX
I can say Pokémon Colosseum is one of my favorite Pokemon games and I very much recommend it.

It is very different and yet also very familiar. The same overall combat wise except all the battles are double battles, you can't catch (or even encounter) any wild pokemon and instead you have to steal them from trainers, which gives you a limited selection of them in a similar way to how you have a closed selection of pokemon in a Nuzlocke playthorough but for different reasons. Also nearly all of the pokemon you obtain are Shadow Pokemon. Imagine if all your pokemon had a chance to disobey you as if you traded for them and you didn't have enough badges to command them correctly. That (among other things) is how Shadow Pokemon work. Luckily you can call them in the middle of battle if they get really out of control and stop listening to you completely (which also has a the side effect of allowing you to wake them up any time, Awakening is worthless!)

Outside of battle, a couple differences are that you don't have a connected overworld to travel around but instead travel to locations through a map selection thing, which will take you to the cities and towns you need to get to, and you can't save anywhere and instead only can save at PCs. You also have a partner character. Not a rival or friend that happens to occasionally be around sometimes but an honest to goodness secondary protagonist/supporter/partner that follows you everywhere. Not in a creepy way though. Funny enough she has a close resemblance to Misty.

One big difference in particular is that the game has a very different flavor compared to most main series games. With pokemon essentially being brainwashed and having their hearts artificially closed and filled with darkness somehow, and Orre is a very barren wasteland of a region, and a lot of the areas you visit in the game are gritty crime filled towns. It's also implied that you're main character was not always such a nice and helpful person.
It doesn't go too far with it though (for instance most of those towns people are just kinda shifty but aren't like, implied horrible killers, and your character is still a silent protagonist so don't expect a lot of character development out of him), but the implications are there.

It is very different, but aside from all that as far as battles go, even though they are all double battles once you are actually in them they are completely the same as double battles in the main series games. If all that doesn't turn you off on it and you want a pokemon game that feels like a pokemon game, but also is different in may ways then I can't recommend it enough. A very different experience.

As far as the sequel goes, I haven't played more than the starting area (once when a friend brought it over), but I have seen a lets play. A few differences are that it is a direct sequel in story, and you can actually catch wild pokemon but it is in such a roundabout way that is a big hassle so it's not great as you might hope. You also don't have a partner character anymore (at least past the first area of the game), and there is much less of a gritty feel in the region overall, so if you you liked the sound of that or play Colosseum and like it that is something to be aware of, It seems pretty good though so it still might also be up your alley!

The Tellius series games are my absolute favorite FE games and I love Radiant Dawn just a tiny bit more. Both games have great soundtracks and they're pretty challenging.

I've used the general Video Games Help thread for this purpose, but maybe this'll be more concise. Here are some games that I'd really like to get my hands on:

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - I hear the story is not really on par with the rest of the series, but I'm a fair-weather fan of Metal Gear and I feel like the game-play and the graphics might be spectacular enough to make it up to me.
Resident Evil - Particularly the first game, but anything I can get my hands on besides the bad ones, I'd like to get deeper into this series. I own Revelations on 3DS, that's it so far.
Silent Hill - I would really like to get into this series, but it seems really expensive at this time to go back and get the PS1/PS2 games. I would really like to experience these games some day, any guidance in getting there would be appreciated.
Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga and the Raidou Kuzunoha games - These are the PS2-era MegaTen games that I don't have yet. I own a lot of MegaTen games, but these seem like the biggest gaps in my collection. I'll probably end up owning them some day, just curious for anyone's two cents is all.
Yakuza - Like Silent Hill, this is a series that I'd like to get into but tracking down these old PS2 games is too expensive for me.

As for my recommendations to others, I would add to what @Eggseggseggseggs; is saying about the GameCube Pokemon games, they're pretty good and extremely nostalgic to me. Honestly, while the game-play is more linear and simpler than main-line games, the graphics and especially the music come together in just the right way to make a game with a certain... I dunno, atmosphere. I have played and beaten both games, so I will say that XD is basically like a giant rehash of Colosseum from what I remember, there's a lot of re-used environments and music and stuff like that. That said, it is a sequel, and it's cool to see how things have changed in Orre since Wes caused such a stir and took down Cipher the first time. I highly recommend those games, but they're very expensive to track down nowadays. I'm lucky to have my copies from childhood, if I had to find those games over again I would probably pass on them.

@Beth Pavell, and @Eggseggseggseggs, do you have any games on your wishlist?
Well, thinking about it there are a few on my Backloggery Wishlist and also some cheap ones on my Steam Wishlist.

Any notes on any of these would be good. I'm not getting most of them any time soon, but I think the ones that don't go above 10 bucks are the ones I'll probably get soonest.

7th Dragon III Code: VFD (I mostly want this one because I've enjoyed what I've played of the first 2 7th Dragon games, especially 2020)

Legend of Dark Witch (3DS) (I've been thinking about Dark Witch since I played the demo. I haven't played a lot of Mega Man games but I kinda liked Zero and Gunvolt so I figured this might be good and it plays pretty good, when I played the demo again recently though I felt one of the enemies was pretty cheap and annoying. Those stupid fast shooting books. I haven't played much beyond that though, especially recently so Idk if thats just me or what it's like throughout the full game or anything)

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 1, 2, and 3 (I remember having Ty 3 for the Gamecube as a kid and loving it. I don't have it anymore, but I was hoping to rekindle that love but playing through all the games, I haven't actually played either of the first 2 though)

Diary of a Spaceport Janitor (I've only seen small glimpses of this game because I don't want to spoil too much of it, but what I have seen reminds me of this one great freeware indie game called Goblet Grotto. I loved that game because it let you explore a large, completely batshit insane and hilarious world and this seems to have that feeling too. That's part of what I love about Undertale and Telefang too)

Oxenfree (Oxenfree is mostly here because I just noticed it dropped from 20 bucks to 5 dollars and it's only that way for 3 more days. That's probably the one I'm getting soonest. I was previously interested in it for the branching dialog choices and interesting/mysterious story that it seemed to have when I watched Jim Sterling play up to a point)

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (I've played and liked a few MegaTen games at this point. Starting with Devil Survivor Overclocked and Persona 3, and I've played a bit of SMT 4 and a little of DS 2. I really like all of them so far and loved and beat Devil Survivor, the difference here is that I was never big on the idea of first person dungeon crawling or first person anything really before then and this game lacks a few of the features I really liked in those games. I feel like I'm more ok with first person rpgs and dungeon crawlers now thanks to trying out SMT Strange Journey up to the first boss (which stomped me out) and liking it, but I also hear this game doesn't let you fuse demons and distribute the skills among the new ones as easily (IE it is random) or have any kind of Press Turn System like the others. I hear it has a very interesting cast of characters though. I wonder how this would stack up against the others and if it's worth it, especially with the kinda steep price for such an old game)

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne (This one I've been interested in for a while. From what I've gleaned it has some of my fav things from Devil Survivor, but with gameplay from SMT 4. It has a dark atmosphere contrasted by the silly demons and you can go through the game punching demons in the face. I've also heard it is quite a bit hard though, and also that it is very lonely compared to some of the other MegaTen games I've played, and I wonder how much story is in it compared to those too. I've heard a lot of the older main SMT games are a little light on story and characters)

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (I've seen and heard really good things about this game and have been interested in it for a good while, though it's been a while since I've looked into it so I don't really remember much. I do remember that you fight a lot of giant monsters and can even climb them like in Shadow of Colossus, and I like any action game that revolves fighting giant monsters, especially when I have a lot of customization options and can make it really immersive and personal that way)

RunGunJumpGun (I just saw a trailer for this game recently and it looked wild, freaky and amazing. I like the really colorful style and wonky weird seeming characters. I've liked some bullet hell and shmupy games in the past, and I like really hard platformer games that give you infinite tries to beat the stages like Meatboy and They Bleed Pixels. This seems like kind of a mix of those so I think I'd be into it, but I haven't played it so obviously I can't say for sure how it plays or if it's too hard and/or unwieldy or hard to control. The music sounds amazing though)

Soul Nomad and the World Eaters (I've liked a few SRPGs like Fire Emblem Awakening, Devil Survivor, Makai Kingdom, and Disgaea (though I mostly like playing that solo) and I like having extremely dark carnage filled alternate storylines like the one in Undertale, but I don't really know how the gameplay holds up in this one. I've heard it's a lot different from Disgaea and a lot of other SRPGs and have have heard good and bad things from different people. Some even saying it is outright broken in some ways)

Avenging Spirit (I've heard this is a quirky little platformer with a very interesting gimmick and was thinking of getting it on the 3DS VC. I was wondering how it controls on the 3DS and how the difficulty and gameplay is)

Well, I haven't completed any of the games on people's wishlists here so far, so I can't really help anyone there at the moment, unfortunately. That said, I do have quite a few games of my own that I'm interested in that I would greatly appreciate recommendations for:

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity / Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS)

I've become increasingly interested in this series recently, particularly because people say that it has some of the darkest and most emotional storylines of any Pokémon game. I played the demo for Gates to Infinity and I enjoyed it, but I'm wondering how it compares to its successor, Super Mystery Dungeon, as far as gameplay and story goes (opinions seem to be pretty mixed on the matter, based on what I've read). And between the two, which would be the better game for a newcomer to the series to buy?

Stella Glow (3DS)
I've heard a lot of good things about this game. People say that it's kind of like Fire Emblem, and some even say that it's better than it! For those of you who are familiar with both: how do the two compare gameplay- and story-wise, and would you agree with the above opinion? Or for those of you who have only played this game: how does it stand on its own merits? Is it worth playing?

Rune Factory 4 (3DS) / other games in the series
I found out about this game just recently and it sounds interesting... it looks like a more epic version of Harvest Moon. I'd be interested in hearing what the game is like and how it compares to both its parent series and its predecessors on the DS.

EarthBound (3DS VC)
I've been interested in this game and its series for quite a long time, but I have yet to actually play it. While I'd be willing to take a risk on game's plot and its unique sense of humor, my main concern is whether or not it's aged well in the gameplay department, and if it's worth the relatively high price tag on the Virtual Console to play today.

Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii/3DS) / Xenoblade Chronicles X (Wii U)
Here's two games that a lot of people say need to be played. Apparently, the battle system is a lot like an MMORPG, a genre that I'm unfamiliar with. I'd like to know how the gameplay compares to other real-time RPG battle systems from games like, say, Kingdom Hearts. And for those of you who have played both games: which one is better? I've heard that some people weren't as impressed with X's story in particular compared to its predecessor, which would be important for me as someone who prefers RPGs with strong - or at least interesting - stories.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U)
From what I've heard, this game is like Persona-lite with some Fire Emblem elements sprinkled here and there, along with an unabashedly insane plot. I'm wondering how it compares to games from both of its parent series, and whether or not I should spring for those instead or try this one anyway.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3)
This game has been on my radar for a very long time, but I've never actually bought it. Something's been holding me back from doing so, and I'm not exactly sure what it is... maybe I'm just afraid that I'll be disappointed or bored by it. I'd love to hear an opinion about the game from someone around here so that I can figure out whether I would really enjoy this game or not.

Okami (Wii/PS3)
This is another game that many people say should be played, and I'm pretty sure that I'll be doing just that in the near future. I'm leaning strongly towards the PS3 version for the HD experience, although I'm open to considering the Wii version if the motion controls make it the superior version of the game.

@InfiniteBakuphoon
Stella Glow - It is a lot like FE but I don't think its better. Its almost exactly the same in game-play but story wise Id say they are pretty different. SG was a great game that actually had a pretty interesting story-line for an almost "harem" game but I had some problems with the ending I got. It was either filled with plot holes or the developer left it open for a sequel. I haven't seen anything about a sequel so far so I'm sticking with plot holes. Its definitely a good game that takes awhile to beat and requires multiple play-throughs to get all combat bonuses and main/side story endings.

Rune Factory 4 - Epic HM is a great way to describe it! Its got the farming aspect of HM but its kinda a back burner item to the rest of the game. Its mostly just for completing town requests or taming monsters. Once you have a good set up of monsters tamed they will even do most of your farming for you. You'll spend more time crafting weapons/medicine/armor/acc that you need to get through story dungeons then anything. Each game in the series starts out with the MC waking up with amnesia and since they don't know anything they end up staying in the town they woke up in to help them. From there the plot lines range from enemy nations to crazy strong monsters showing up for some reason. RF4 is the best in the series for me so I would recommend starting with that one since its story is great/ pretty long. Its also got a really nice challenging post game. If you didn't start with that one Id say the first game is the next best.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE - Game-play its all Persona. Story is definitely Persona as well but the lore for all the mirages is all FE. Not just in their names but how they act and fight. The story was hysterical and had its cheesy moments. Some of the side story lines were great. Some of them were a little boring and easy. The true ending was satisfying but if for some reason you dont trigger it (which I see as really hard to do) the default ending was weird and not in a good way. It had a pretty good amount of junk to do in game but not nearly on the same scale as Persona itself. One of the best game for Wii U but if you want something a lot like Persona or a lot like FE just stick with Persona or FE.

Ni No Kuni - One of the best JRPGs on the PS3. Its a lot like a ghibli movie and has a lot more sad times then happy ones. Most of those happy ones were pretty bitter sweet too. What you think is the end of the main story leads into the reveal of the actual lead villain and has a janky transition but the lead villain has such a cool story going on it kinda makes up for the weird transition. Combat is really fun and active but it does take some getting used to since there are so many different controls. Tons of familiars to collect and morph. I did get frustrated with the morphing because there was one morph item that was such a pain to find and was hardly ever dropped by a select few familiars. Lots of hidden areas. items, and side quests to do. Awesome post game content that was a nice challenge.

Okami - Haven't played the PS3/2 version but I loved the Wii version. It was the perfect game for motion controls. The only time I ever had a problem with the Wii version was because I was in a small room so sometimes when connecting the stars my motions weren't being read so I had to re-try a couple of times.

@InfiniteBakuphoon
Stella Glow - It isn't a bad game by any means but it does have flaws. I wouldn't say it's better than FE but you might get some enjoyment out of it. The story is pretty different from what you'd think it'd be. Gameplay is alright. Overall, you could consider trying it. I'd give it a go from the eShop demo first to get an idea of what you're working with.

Xenoblade Chronicles - Admittedly a game I need to get back to but what I've played of it was amazing. I'd definitely recommend it if you can access it.

I'm looking for a good 3DS or Wii U JRPG to play. Any recommendations?

For 3DS: Bravely Default and Bravely Second are two great turn based JRPGs, You can plat Xenoblade on Wii U or 3DS. The Mario and Luigi Games are also pretty fun, but it's not really super JRPGish. Tales of the Abyss Is A++++ but the three d effect is trash but you don't need it. It is a port of a PS2 game.

The Wii U has Xenoblade Chronicles X which is in a different Cannon from Xenoblade. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is interesting.

Just a follow-up on the original post: I just bought Hyrule Warriors for the 3DS, and I am enjoying it very well. I just finished the brief "evil campaign" of Ganondorf's invasion, and that is one of my highlights - I mean, what mainstream games allow you to even remotely take charge in making an evil plot? It is also the first time I even saw anything close to an epic war scene in the Zelda series, and the numbers in battle, the cool moves that would not exist in the main games (save for Link's maybe), and the remixes of the Zelda music brings the epicness further. For someone who hasn't played any of the Warrior games, the gameplay seems intuitive enough. The camera and the enemy spawns are a bit of an issue at times, but they haven't been too much of a bother.

So, among the things I've been itching to play recently, Fire Emblem is a rather big one on my list as of right now. Between all the 3DS instalments, how do you think the difficulty scales between Awakening, Birthright and Conquest? (Mind, if I get Fates in any capacity I'm playing through all the campaigns through to the end, and Revelation will obviously follow after the other two campaigns are done.) I'm talking specifically and strictly on difficulty and gameplay factor, none of the other stuff matters - as I'm otherwise blind to most of the Fire Emblem series save for a Let's Play I watched of Awakening done by Tom Fawkes (who also did Fates but I didn't watch that), I care not for what the gameplay veterans nor what the newcomers think of things like the plot, and will decide that for myself as I play through the game.

Edit: Mind you, also, I'm not in it to play Shadow Dragon (or import New Mystery of the Emblem), nor do I feel like playing the Tellius games or anything before then.

I'd say that Birthright and Awaking are both pretty close to each other, while Conquest is harder, Granted I feel like it also depends on what your setting are, with both the normal Difficulty settings and the death settings.

@Meyneth True, true. With that in mind, I plan on playing Normal Classic first, at the bare minimum. I don't plan on removing the permadeath aspect in any of my playthroughs, and will do my darndest to figure out the proper strategy for keeping everyone alive. I do hate to lose, but hey, that's all part of me trying to get good at the rest of the game!

Etrian Odyssey 4 is great.
Already got it, lol. All the 3DS Etrian Odyssey games (save Etrian Mystery Dungeon but including Persona Q) I got when I first started my JRPG kick on the 3DS last year. I vastly prefer EO2U to all but Persona Q, because its feature list is rather expansive in comparison to the other two.
