GSCHGSS are set three years after RBYFRLG, and you are able to battle your former self in the form of Red.

I think it would be really cool if you could battle Hilbert/Hilda in B2W2.

Do you think this is likely to happen?

If so, how do you think the gender split will be handled? (Boys battle Hilbert, girls battle Hilda? The reverse? Or maybe, like in HGSS, it will just be one gender anyway.)

Also, what do you think their team will be? Red's team was based on event Pokemon and starters from Gen I. Do you think Hilbert/Hilda's team would be done in the same way, and, if so, what Pokemon do you think that will include?

I'm quite excited about the idea of battling Hilbert/Hilda (battling Red was awesome) so would love to hear your opinions on the subject!
 
I'm actually thinking...what if they make N the Red Battle?

We're all guessing he'll play a role in the plot, but what if he remains absent through the entire game, only appearing at the very end in a hidden location? "My name...is N."
 
I hope they put all of the "superpowered characters" in this game and make them available for battle in each of their respective seasons. So like we have Cynthia during summer in BW,we could also battle Steven during spring,N/Hilda/Hilbert during autumn and Red during winter.
 
Personally, I would love it if in B2W2, if you play as the male character Hilbert is the champion, but if you play as the girl you battle Hilda. If they're not the Champion though, I do hope they are battled in the post-game. As for their team, I'd imagine they would both use the same team that will include Serperior, Emboar and Samurott. Or if the rival picks the Pokémon your starter is weak too, Hilda/Hilbert has the one you're super effective against? (To mirror BW with Cheren and Bianca).

I imagine that if N is still a part of the story, he will be a protagonist this time. So any battle against him would probably be a post game one - I'd imagine he'd use his BW team, but with a few replacements for Pokémon in the new Unova dex.
 
I can't remember who said it, but someone on here had the idea of a NPC asking you what gender the person who took down Plasma two years ago was. Then if you played as a boy in the first game, but a girl in the second, you could keep the continuity (as well as all other permutations).

Gosh, whoever said that: I'm really sorry I can't remember who you are! It's a great idea, though!
 
Maybe connect BW2 to BW and let BW2 access the first Hall of Fame team that beat the league with. That data could be used for the final battle.

I like this idea actually. I kinda do wonder whatever happens to N after he leaves with his dragon. Would be nice to know more about what he's doing in the sequels.

That was me. :3

So yeah, that's basically my idea to maintain continuity between versions since they can't just assume players will choose the same gender both times. I'm not sure in exactly what capacity they'll return in though. Probably a Red-like bonus boss after the league is most appropriate, although I could see them becoming the champion you have to fight.
 
Personally I'd enjoy the two to be split between games, Hilda being in one game and Hilbert in the other. Or maybe they just should just make Hilda the hero...

I would actually love to see the previous protagonist have a role in the game. Maybe even speaking.
 
Why not a double battle against both? After all, they double battled on the subway. It would also keep the gender of the previous hero ambiguous so the player themself could fill in the blanks from their own game.
 
Asking their gender seems a bit awkward. I'd think if they were making the characters canon, it would simply be easier to bring to conversation the Plasma events, and then the NPC asking "what was that person's name again" with the choice being Hilbert or Hilda.
 
What matters to me is giving them a role in the story. I feared that might not happen if player characters were doomed to remain silent forever, but the new trailer shows that even the active player character will get to speak in these games (in the new movie feature).
 
I think N would make the best choice. Given that his legendary WILL play a part in the version of the game, as opposed to the player's as White Kyurem is not in Black 2 nor is Black Kyurem in White 2.

And yes, the former PC does have Reshiram/Zekrom, as unlike with all other previous ones the player IS forced to catch it.
 
I think asking you whether the hero was a boy or a girl is actually something that Nintendo would do. It's not totally unlike in Emerald asking you whether the Lati@s is blue or red. It could just be some old guy asking you, after all.

I'd prefer not to have a double battle, personally. I'd rather just fight the old protagonist.

Personally, I hope Hilda/bert and N are both in the new games. Do you think they could both be?

I actually really hope that it isn't Touya or Touko. I remember when battling Red in GS it didn't really feel meaningful to theoretically battle yourself. I think any "Hidden final boss" battle should at least progress/have some development for the character you are battling.

As Quattro ~ Bajeena brought up, I think N would be a better candidate or perhaps even Bel. The whole "I'm weak" thing was never true (the statues in the gyms confirm this), and it would be interesting in my opinion to see her as a) clearly strong and b) losing without then saying she is weak.
 
What I didn't like about facing my past self was that his team was much too weak to represent myself. I had a full team of level 100, not a team around 75-81!

I would rather fight Ghetsis again. I don't feel comfortable knowing that he's out there somewhere still, and I won't feel happy until I've found him and sent him back to prison. I imagine he'll be hiding deep in a cave, training for his return, much like Giovanni in HG/SS, maybe with one or two legendaries in his team to replace the Zekrom & Reshiram he failed to capture.
 
I think it would be great to battle Hilda/Hilbert. Personally though, I think that that Game Freak should just decide on using either Hilbert or Hilda for both games for canon purposes. Its so muxh easier to have a Red instead of a Ethan/Lyra/Kris for example. In my opinion it would better if they did this for every game, making sequels and canon much easier
 
No, I don't want to battle them. I vastly prefer that they have a proper role in B2/W2's story.
