Red Gyarados's gender?

In Gold, Silver, and Crystal is the red Gyarados a male or a female, I've always wondered.

I've had both a male Red Gyarados and a female Red Gyarados. It's totally random.

I think it's more likely to be male, but I'm not sure. I got a male Red Gyarados all 4 times I've played Silver or Crystal.

Nope, Magikarp/Gyarados as species in general have a fifty-fifty gender split. Looks like luck of the draw threw you off.

I never thought about it before, but I always got a male. I never had a female Red Gyarados, and never knew anyone who had a female.
