Authorities say a 12-year-old boy assaulted by a group of middle school classmates in Southern California may have been targeted after an Internet posting urged students to beat up redheads.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Richard Erickson says the boy, who is redheaded, was kicked and hit in two incidents Friday at A.E. Wright Middle School in Calabasas. As many as 14 students participated in the attacks.

Erickson says the attackers may have been motivated by a Facebook message announcing that Friday was "Kick a Ginger Day." The posting may have been inspired by an episode of the television show "South Park."

The boy was not seriously hurt. Erickson says there may be other victims.

No arrests have been made.

May I ask what is wrong with some people these days?! I have cousins who are red-headed, and while I do call them Ginger on occasin, I don't go beat 'em up for it. D= I fully support trying the attackers as adults, it's sad when people are attacked for a hair color....
 
Have to admit, much as I love me some South Park, I do think their (or at least just Trey's) stance on redheads is pretty ignorant. I mean, those children in the photos from that episode are absolutely adorable! And redheaded chicks... well, :crush:
 
Some people just hate redheads as some people hate black people.

Those who do hate gingers are obviously severely lacking in the sense depratment.
 
The only people I hate are people who actively go out of their way to piss me off. And believe me, some have. And do.

also, I believe one of my favorite Austin Powers quotes applies here:

"There's two things I hate in this world. People who don't appreciate other people's cultures, and the Dutch!"
 
*facepalm* I know back in my highschool they had something like "kick a freshmen day", but I don't think it ever happened. Jokes like this are horrible, and even worse when people act on them.

Any sort of bigotry like this is stupid, and they deserve punishment for it.
 
This is just another example of people taking things to far. I'm willing to bet that these kids had never had any feelings one way or another regarding Gingers before they saw that South Park ep. Do I think South Park is responsible? Hell no, I love that show. Been watching it since day one. Do I blame the guy who made the "Kick a Ginger Day" on FB? Nope. I blame the idiot kids who actually took all of it seriously and acted on it. Those kids need to start riding the short bus to school.
 
Ginger is pretty tame actually. Where I live people use the word 'ranga' and its always used in a demeaning manner unlike ginger.

And really, I don't understand why they'd do this. Why would they give a shit about some freaking Facebook message saying to beat up redheads?? It makes no sense to me.

It's because people are stupid and sites like facebook and myspace are furthering the epidemic with garbage like this.

Oh dang, good thing I don't live there, I'm a redhead. But find it pretty stupid of people to follow what someone types up on some social site, just goes to show you how idiotic people are to follow anything, tis a shame if it was Be nice to everyone day...hardly no one would follow it.

not to sound mean or anything...but that was one of the funniest things ive read all day. sure, it was wrong and uncalled for, but it was funny
 
My mom is redheaded. I'd actually love to see her go all ape-shit on them xD
