In today's entry in the official blog of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, President Masahiko Sakurai revealed a new playable character - the first Pokémon character to be confirmed since Pikachu appeared in the first trailer. A Pokémon Trainer, with the design of Red, will battle with Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard.

Looks fun! This will be interesting to try out. And at least they are all cool pokemon.

I was on the fence about buying a Wii, but now I really want it just to play as Red in SSBB. This is going to result in some very funny matchups (can you say, "Red vs. Pikachu?")

Eeee!!

This is AWESOME!!!! :-D

And well, Red's the closest I'm gonna get to seeing Ash in a Super Smash Bros. game. ^^

Also, I'm glad that I have a Wii now.

Oh Awesome, I so can't wait for this, I've got my favourite Character now!

Red's only move is the down special, which is sending out Pokemon. The other moves will be that of the Pokemon's.

Me too! Pikachu can say goodbye, because I'm gonna be using Red and Charizard!

It's not called Red, it's called Pokemon Trainer. Get it right, peoples. :banghead:
Wonder what Ash's moves will be?
Ugh...:mallet:

I'm still wondering when and where the auditions for his voice are gonna be. ^_^

Well the name Red, which is what it is called in the games (using text from GSC), is more accurate than Ash seeing as the anime was based off the games (except yellow, which was a game that seemed loosely based off the anime, whic in turn was loosely based off the games.)

But fine, I'll call it Pokemon Trainer. Anyways I think they need Pokemon Trainer (female) from Ruby/Saphire to put in some Hoenn Pokemon, but then the game would seem way too Pokemon-centric.

Also, I'm wondering if I am able to switch Pokemon in midair, if so, Charizard will help a lot if I'm knocked off the field, if it is given the flying ability similar to that of Kirby or Jigglypuffs. By that I mean repetedly pressing the jump button to flap wings, not inflate itself. Of course, this would make me wonder what kind of dumbass trainer would call back their Pokemon only to throw the other one off a cliff.....

Its NOT Red, not Ash, not Dawn, its Pokemon Trainer !, and he always looks in the background, does his healt depent on his pokemon ? hmm, Until December I guess.

Metaknight and that Kid Icarus guy can actually fly, not air jump, they have complete control in aerial situations, culminating in intense aerial battles, I don't see why Charizard should be any different. Another good edition to the game.

We Want Team Rocket!!! We Want Team Rocket!!!

Didn't actually play Melee due to not having a Gamecube.

Unlikely to happen! Unlikely to happen!

Though I love the Grunts outfits for some reason. I want to see them in the 3D games.

Interesting... This lets us play as three pokemon without counting them as three individual characters... This could be very nice.

Who knows if other trainers appear...could always uhh, choose the Pokemon Trainer's alter outfit like the previous games.

I wonder what his Final Smash would be?

Also, I think that the method to unlocking him will involve Pokeballs.
