Hi there, and welcome to my fanfic, 'Red, You the Man!' And yes, that Red is the player character in Red and Blue, or if you prefer, the original main character in the manga Pokémon Special.
This fanfic follows the adventures of Red Doleman travelling through Kanto, with his
trying to win loads of Pokémon Contests. Also, a sideplot involving Silver (or Kamon as he is called in this fanfic), and his parents is included in this fanfic.
So, that's enough from me. Chapter One is right below this block of writing! VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV
This fanfic is rated PG-12 due to swearing, and although it won't be featured yet, violence and sexual references.
Red walked through his garden, searching for his vanished Caterpie. “Where are you, Caterpie?” Red heard a sound from a nearby red bush, pulling the green pokémon out of it. “Caterpie, what did I tell you about getting lost?” He said, trying to pick up the bug type pokémon. “I can still remember the day I rescued you in Viridian Forest.” He placed it back on the ground. “There you go. Roam free, little buddy. Make sure no-one steals you.”
Red sighed in relief, “Caterpie’s lucky. I was worried that a bug catcher would think that it’s stray and would capture it.” He walked back into the kitchen, finding his mother getting the breakfast ready. “Mum, what time did you say Professor Oak would be ready tomorrow?”
Red’s mother turned to her side, putting a chequered dishcloth onto to the breakfast table, “Seven-o-clock in the morning.” She placed a saucepan on top of the oven, and started to fry some bacon. “I decided to make this breakfast extra special, as you’re leaving tomorrow.” She put a plate with a stack of pancakes on top onto the table. “I know how you like your pancakes- extra crunchy.”
“Thanks Mum.” Red pulled a chair out from under the table, grabbed a knife and fork from the left hand side, and started to eat the pancakes. “Mum, can I take Caterpie with me?” He asked, spreading some syrup onto his pancakes.
“Of course you can. After all, your father chose to take his Sandshrew with him when he has 11.” She started pouring some orange juice into a small glass, and drank it all in a few seconds. “But you are still getting a starter pokémon from the lab, aren’t you? I mean, just travelling with a Caterpie first off is a little dangerous.”
“Yeah, I know that, Mum.”
~7:00 AM, The Next Morning~
Red closed the smooth, brown door behind him, finally leaving his mother after eleven years. With his trusty Caterpie sitting on his shoulder, he walked up the path, passing by all the neighbouring houses. He turned to the left at the end of the path, walking past a small cottage, and finally ending up at a small forest. This small forest was what separated the north of and the south of Pallet Town, so Red stepped into it, hoping to exit at the north so he could get to Professor Oak’s lab.
He started walking through the forest, his black hair lightly brushing his shoulders. His hands were placed in the pockets of his blue pair of jeans, taking one hand out to return Caterpie back into its pokéball. He then walked over to a red shrine in the middle of the forest, investigating it thoroughly. ‘Pallet Forest Shrine: May Trusted Trainers Be Rewarded’
Red touched the shrine with his hand, a pink glow immediately shining as he touched it. “What the fuck is that?” The blinding flash then stopped, a pink creature floating in the air. It floated over to Red, curiously touching him on the face. It then floated up, mysteriously disappearing after another blinding flash. “What was that?”
“Don’t you know?” A girl said, her long brown hair blowing in the wind as she jumped off a tree branch. Her Pidgey shortly followed her, landing on her shoulder. “Anyone with a half a brain knows that that pokémon was Mew, the New Species pokémon.” She returned Pidgey into its pokéball, placing it onto her belt. “Legends state that Mew appears to trainers at the Pallet Forest Shrine that are kind and loyal. They say that whoever it meets will be lucky forever.”
“I’m kind and loyal?” He shook the girls hand kindly. “Anyway, my name’s Red. What’s yours?”
“Green.” Green and Red started to walk further into the small forest, “We’re similar, aren’t we? I mean, we’ve both got names from colours, we’re both starting journeys… or at least, I’m starting a journey.”
“Yeah, I’m starting one as well.” He detached a pokéball from his belt, releasing his Caterpie from it. “This is my first pokémon. I got it from Viridian Forest as a present. I rescued it, and my dad let me keep it.” The Caterpie crawled up Red’s body, finally stopping on Red’s head.
“Oh, wow!” Green detached a pokéball from her belt as well, releasing a Pidgey. “This is my Pidgey.” The Pidgey landed on Green’s shoulder, oddly staring at Red’s Caterpie.
Red and Green finally walked out of the forest, a sign saying ‘Welcome to North Pallet Town!’ greeting them as they entered the north part of town. They walked off a green field filled with colourful flowers, stepping onto a path with a two-way road accompanying it. The couple walked up the path, their respective pokémon walking by their side.
Green stopped walking, just as she saw a poster with a blue haired girl on it, and the text ‘Pokémon Contests: NOW HELD IN KANTO!’ at the bottom of it. “Oh my god, contests are being held in Kanto…?”
“Contests?” Red asked Green curiously, “What are they, Green?”
“Oh, you don’t know?” She took her pink backpack off of her back, opening the zip, and taking a thin book out of it. She flicked some of the pages open, revealed two pages, one to do with text, and the other with a photo of a contest hall. “Contests are competitions where trainers use their pokémon to show off their beauty, toughness, coolness, cuteness, or smartness.” Green told Red confidentially.
“Doesn’t seem very interesting. How could you be interested in something boring like that?”
“BORING? BORING!?” She stamped her foot on the ground, her face red with anger, “Right, you little bastard. You’re not interested in my contests, and whatever sort of goal you’ve got, I why wouldn’t care about that one little bit. So, we’re both going to fight for our goals, and we’ll meet whenever we can, to show how far we’ve got.”
“Right, that’ll be fine. But first, we’ll have to get a starter pokémon from Professor Oak’s lab… last one there’s a Slowpoke!” Red ran up a long path with his Caterpie hanging onto his shoulder, and Green followed him, her Pidgey flying after her.

Red finally gets to Professor Oak’s lab, Green chasing him. But when Oak asks them what pokémon they want, which one will Red and Green choose? And who’s that red-haired kid who’s looking through the window? These questions will be answered in the next chapter of Kick Into Kanto!
