I've noticed thst over the years, various other animes have been made fun of on the show (Team Rocket seems to be constantly making fun of the robot archetype). What are people's favorites over the years?

Its not an anime, but Jessie referenced the X-men once.

Lance said he was a Pokemon G-man and Jessie said she didnt care if he was a G-Man or an X-man.

As I recall, the episode "Maxxed Out" has a shot where Jessie's hair is styled to make her look decidely like Inuyasha.

I don't think the show has any specific reference towards a specific title/different anime but rather things to the Japanese or American pop culture depending...

Well way back in the older episodes there were tons of Japanese traditional aspects that were poked fun of. I remember one in particular being the Ganguro Girl get-up TR was wearing in a particular episode. That and what Jinx is relatively based on.

Our most recent one is a mecha reference (more specficially Gundum probably because of how that robot was designed) and what would appear to be a Wii control in the "Ya See We Want an Evolution!" episode. There was also another Wii control device in another episode later.

The episode with the ninja academy, where Brock gets Bonsly, is filled to the brim with references to the whole ninja mythos. They used hand seals. I lol'ed.

There was also a Sailor Moon reference in the same episode, IIRC.

There's also that infamous crossdress session with Jessie in a soldier's clothes and James in a blond wig and a red dress, that is apparently a reference to The Rose of Versailles.

Well, there's Jessie going all Cardcaptor on us in the motto of Hocus Pokemon! ^^ And the HUGE Detective Conan references in the Oak-napped episode, as well as the Utena ones in episode 16.

Rose of Versailles gets referenced on the show /all the time/... remember Oscar and Andrew? And the many times the Rockets crossdressed as them...

I loved the ninja school episode for that! xD The hand seals would have to be one of the best parts.

And the Fist of The North Star parodies.

But yeah, it seems to reference Japanese culture more than anime. My absolute favorite? Well, besides the crying and hugging in the sunset in the baseball motto for anime references, I would have to go with the scene in The Five Eevee Sisters! The Tea-Party Battle!! for cultural references.

And in "Hocus Pokemon", during the Team Rocket motto, Jessie wears a magician girl's outfit.

Though, I'm not sure if that's a reference to Cardcaptor Sukura or a reference to Magical Girl anime in general. XD

As I recall, the episode "Maxxed Out" has a shot where Jessie's hair is styled to make her look decidely like Inuyasha.
Are you sure about that? Didn't look very Inuyasha-ish to me. Just looked like some chick who had got her hair terribly tangled in the water.

And as for Musashi's magical girl outfit, I believe it's mocking magical girls in general, but the outfit is quite clearly taken from CCS.

No one's brought up the Utena references? When Erika is introduced, they show her bordered with vines with rotating Gloom in the corners. And then when Jesse is relaying the story of Sleeping Beauty, the characters are blacked out with just their costumes in color, similar to the prologue of Utena.

And let's not forget how Domino twirled around when she introduced herself, parodying how her Japanese VA was also Sailor Moon.

I'm surprised they haven't had any Ranma references given Jesse's VA and Giovanni's late original VA (and Tracey's too, right?) were both on that show.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned TR's paraody of Tuxedo Mask in the first episode with the Phantom Coordinator.

And the latest Mysterious Dungeon special took a stab at Futago Hime with "GABAITO-SAMAAAAAAAAA!" paraodying Rein's "BURAITO-SAMAAAAAAA!".

Pokemon has a bunch of references to other anime. It's what adds to the humor.

Dang, I thought I mentioned the Cardcaptor, Erika, AND Tux thing. ^^;

So that's what that Gabaito-sama thing was referencing? xD

Oh, you did mention that!

Looks like I missed it when I was reading your post the first time. Oops.

I'm sorry, Quiet Dragon. ^^;

I repeated the Cardcaptor thing.

Oh well. Heh, that just shows how obsessed I am with "Hocus Pokemon". I've seen it hundreds and hundreds of times. XD (one word: Ashachu)

In Futago Hime one of the main characters (namely Rein) is head over heals for Prince Bright (spelled Buraito in Japanese). So when ever she see him she squeals "BURAITO-SAMA!" the exact same way Sunflora squealed "GABAITO-SAMA!" after being hit by attract.

There's also the scene where Brock's siblings all hang onto him, when Ash is going for his badge, that supposedly references another anime Brock's JVA worked on.

Yeah, I think Brock was supposed to be all FOTN-ish when he pitched those balls at Bonsly in that episode he was in the Contest.

I think what's just funny as a whole is Brock/Takeshi's seiyuu himself. His seiyuu was Keitaro in Love Hina.

Pokemon - Wantingloveraep
