Lt. Surge is American. Ayers Rock is mentioned in Ponyta's FireRed Pokedex entry. In the American games, Fantina is from some other country and she speaks French. C'est bizarre, n'est-ce pas?

Anyone found any other references to the real world in the games?

Where do you think the world of Pokemon is? My theory would be Japan, on Earth, in a parallel universe. Yeah, it's a dumb theory, but Pokemon is fictional.

I think there has been a thread like this before, but anyway:

In Pokemon first movie "Mewtwo vs Mew" TR have a boat and look like vikings and Ash and Brock and Misty wondered if Vikings still existed, bulbapedia quote:

While Team Rocket (as Vikings) is giving Ash and co. a ride to New Island, Brock comments that he didn't know that vikings still existed. Ash then says that they come from Minnesota, a reference to the Minnesota Vikings football team (English dub only).

There have been references to Mew and Xatu being from South America.

Fire red (Mews pokedex entry):
A Pokémon of South America that was thought to have been extinct. It is very intelligent and learns any move

Silver and Fire Red (Xatus Pokedex entry)
In South America, it is said that its right eye sees the future and its left eye views the past.

In Destiny Deoxys, Deoxys lands in Antarctica and fights Rayquaza there.

Poliwrath's Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and Diamond Pokédex entries say it has the ability to swim the Pacific Ocean

Upon defeating Fisherman Bronson in the Sinnoh Battle Tower, he will say, "Why the emperor of fishing? It's an ancient Chinese legend..."

Parasects pokedex entries say
The bug host is controlled by the mushrooms that scatter poisonous spores. The spores are sometimes used as medicine in China."

I think the Pokemon world IS the real world, with minor differences to the regions that are actually based of the layout of real world Japan

I agree with the Japan, on Earth, but in a parallel universe theory. It explains all the real-world locations, not to mention the many other subtle similarities (Goldenrod's similar to Osaka, there's a nuclear power plant in the real-world Kanto region near where the Abandoned Power Plant would be in Kanto, etc).

Sorta like how Spider-Man lives in New York City, but if we went to New York City, we wouldn't see Spider-Man.

If that makes any sense at all...

It makes wonderful sense!

Arcanine's Pokedex entries in Yellow, Stadium, Gold, Stadium 2 and FireRed mention China.

So I'm guessing the ones who said parallele universe similar to our own are completely off right?

And what pieces are we supposed to put together? We're only looking for real-world references not discussing where the Pokemon World is.

Theres also:

-Fantina being French

-Crasher Wake being a Mexican Wrestler (though seemingly not mexican himself)

-What's-his-face in DPPt who upgrades your Pokedex for foreign dex entries.

-Tate and Liza supposedly being of chinese decent.

-Space Shuttle Columbia in RBY (so its America right?)

No that was correct.
I was just banging my head because I don't know why people can't figure that out on their own without help from others. (Or without looking for threads that are exactly like this)
I mean, every work of fiction with humans in it takes place in, or is some how connected to, a alternate universe earth. I thought it was common sense by now.

So despite everyone else having actually putting the pieces together, you still felt the need to post "Why-Can't-People-Put-The-Pieces-Together"

No one is allowed to state an alternate opinion either jsut because of your compelling "bangs head" arguement?

This is a DISCUSSION FORUM. That's what the entire place is FOR. Did you somehow miss that? And if so, how?

Every work of fictions with humans has an alternate universe earth? Star Wars then? The Final Fantasy series? To name just two.

^Not to mention Corneria from the Star Fox series, The Metroid series, Halo (at least, I THINK that's not connected to earth), and others that I can't think of at the moment.

There are a lot of other theories like future earth. As for the MD series, that goes to either Alternate universe or future Pokemon World, and they can both be argued well. Personally I'd like to hear a theory other than "parallel universe" that is actually well structured.

How about the NPC in Veilstone City? In the Japanese version of Pokemon Platinum, this NPC speaks English.

-i was wondering how this will appear in the English version.-

^Nope.

In the Japanese version of Platinum, there's a blond NPC (Birdkeeper?) that stands next to the sign that describes the town in Tobari City. He speaks in English, you give an answer, and he responds in English.

Perhaps they'll turn this around for the English game and make him a black haired sprite that speaks in Japanese?

Not nearly as many people'd get it, but possibly. I remember being extremely surprised when I randomly talked to him.

I suppose you're right. They'll probably completely overlook him and just keep whatever he's saying right now...
