As you may be aware, Bulbagarden was in the process of moving to a new server about 12 hours ago. The reason for this was that Bulbagarden was not fully utilising the server, so we decided to move to a new server with slightly lower specifications.

The move was completed about 5 hours ago, however, as some users noticed, there was some data loss on Bulbapedia. This was due to a fault of one of the disks and/or the RAID in the new server. This has since been repaired, and there appears to be no data loss.

Update: As a result of the upgrades (see post #5), this server is now actually slightly better than the previous one. That is to say, the net result is an upgrade.

Does this mean Bulbapedia is safe again, by way of the removal of those ads?

So that's what that down-time was.

Here I thought we were into server problems again.

This new server still costs a lot. Less than the server we were using a month ago, but still more than the server we were using a year ago.

In line with our observations of how the server is coping with the load, we have been ordering hardware upgrades. We had one just now, hopefully the last for the time being.
