The next ruleset for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Ranked Battles has been announced: Regulation Set I will return from 5 January 2026 onwards, with a currently unannounced date for when it will end.
Regulation I was the ninth official ruleset for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and first ran from 1 May to 31 August 2025. Pokémon eligible for use includes those in the Paldea Pokédex, Kitakami Pokédex, Blueberry Pokédex, and Pokémon that can be transferred through Pokémon HOME. This includes a limit of two Restricted Special Pokémon per team, such as Koraidon or Miraidon. A full list of Restricted Pokémon available in Scarlet and Violet can be found below.
Restricted Pokémon
Mewtwo | Lugia | Ho-Oh | Kyogre | Groudon |
Rayquaza | Dialga | Palkia | Giratina | Reshiram |
Zekrom | Kyurem | Cosmog | Cosmoem | Solgaleo |
Lunala | Necrozma | Zacian | Zamazenta | Eternatus |
Calyrex | Koraidon | Miraidon | Terapagos |
As a reminder, the Video Game Championships (VGC) and all official in-person events are instead currently using the Regulation Set F ruleset until 31 March 2026, a format that bans the use of all Restricted Pokémon.
This is expected to be the final official ruleset for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Ranked Battles before the release of Pokémon Champions and reintroduction of Mega Evolution to Ranked Battles and VGC in early 2026.
