I'm wondering I've followed up with the Pokemon Anime series up until Hoenn, and I'm sure the GS ball mystery should've been figured out by then. And I recently watched a classic re-run with Ash at the Orange League Islands, where he comes across a Professor named Ivy. That's where I saw it, and then I instantly remembered later in the series they bring it up again in the Jhoto season and give the ball to Kurt "The master of Pokeballs" So. . . what happened to it? What was inside? And why couldn't they open it? That to me was the most interesting thing about the Pokemon Anime to me. But it seems like I missed an episode where they discover more about it.

Can anyone answer to my frustration?

It was a reason to go to Johto. That's really all there is to it.

This is Pokémon, you can't expect loose ends to be resolved.

Maybe once they make a G/S remake they'll some how go back to Jhoto. Of coarse we'd probably have to wait for 4 years.

You see they might, before the 5th generation, go on a boat to Jhoto. There Kurt could meet up with them again and than we'd find out the mystery of the GS ball!

Sadly, I don't think the mystery will ever be explained...

The writers were complete and utter morons in the Johto era and decided that nobody would care about an ongoing plotline being resolved. It honestly didn't seem like they gave a shit about any of their plotlines back then.

And nowadays too much time has passed so there's no point to bring it up again. Just forget about it.

It wasn't any of these things. I was watching the episode with the GS ball, and Ash remarked how it was all Gold and Silver. It was a foreshadow for the G/S/C series! Was I the last one to notice this? However, it really should be resolved. The GS ball must have a Ho-Oh in it! I decree it!

Uhh...yeah...you were the last one...even though Gold and Silver had already been revealed by that time I believe...or at least Pokémon 2 as it was called back then...

Unfortunately the writers thought episodes about territorial Grass Pokemon and Ash being turned into a Pikachu were more important than one or two episodes to show what's in the GS Ball. Now way too much time has passed to go back to it.

Or it contained a Porygon so it was banned *shot*

So what did Ash do with the GS Ball? If he left it at Kurt's house, there's a potential possibility that they could bring it up again.

I doubt it though... Damn I was so intrigued by this mystery too.

That's exactly what they did.

Leaving the GS Ball mystery open was probably one of the anime's biggest mistakes. Too bad. ;_;

Ho-oh has nothing to do with it...

In both the games and manga, it has something to do with Celebi...

And since there was already a Celebi movie, there's no reason to bring it up again...

Nearly 350+ episodes have aired since Ash left the GS ball with Kurt.

The writers wouldn't leave people hanging for 7 years and 350+ episodes if they intended to wrap it up. Other plotlines like Ho-oh and Giovanni we're still reminded of at least once a season, so at least they plan to wrap those up someday.

It has to be linked to Ho-oh some way.

The writers were well aware that they were leaving a big mystery open. They had a joke where Kurt looks like he is ready to reveal all only to say that he doesn't know anything about it. There must be a reason other than messing up. The explanation of whatever link Ash has with Ho-oh would be the most likely time for this whole thing to be cleared up. Unfortunately, the writers seem to be leaving it for the end of the series and there are currently no plans to stop.

The anime doesn't have to follow the games and manga exactly. Besides, the anime thought of it first so the writers would have had their own explanation long before Crystal came out.

Not that Celebi seems to be finished with, judging by its hoso appearance...

I think that when GSC is remade, they can use this as a plot device for Ash to go back to Hoenn. Kurt discovers the mystery after many years, Dawn competes in the grand festival and ash competes in whatever league thingy they come up with. I'd like to see Dawn not get enough ribbons in time and Ash decide to re challenge the Silver Conferance and actually win. Would be cool if theyd ecided to continue the Anime after Sinnoh.

Well...Ash has some connection with Lugia, as he WAS The Chosen One form the prophecy...and we know he and Houou are connected...and he just-so-happens to find the GS Ball...I'd like to believe the write's have something huge planned...but I also doubt it'll ever be brought up again.

hey, I liked the Pokemon alchemist. Easily one of the more interesting professions featured in the anime.
