Repurchasing Old Games

So just wondering: How many people have gone back and bought older Pokemon games?

Maybe you had Blue Version, sold it, then (like any sensible person) regretted it and re-bought it? Or maybe you've been hearing about Gold Version for years and decided you had to see what all the hype was about?

I just purchased a copy of Crystal Version for the very first time (I've had Gold and Silver before, but somehow never got my hands on the third in the trilogy). It should be here in a few days and I am SO. EXCITED.

Just curious to see how many out there are doing the same!

I don't think buying the GB-era games is too good of an idea. The internal battery is going to die soon (and may have already bit the dust), so you might not be able to save. This is why, if I wanna play a pre-DS Pokemon game, I just emulate it.

The batteries can be changed, you can find instructions how by googling, so if someone wants to do that, they can. I dont think that should stop people from buying the older games if they want them.

Ive re-bought Silver and Crystal versions due to losing them and now have all the older games.

I would definitely be willing to change my own game battery in order to keep playing. I do use emulators but it's just not the same, and obviously the trading/transferring capability is nullified.

I've never re-bought an older version nor had much of an interest in it until last year when my Crystal was at it's end I'd considered buying a new one because I'd just caught a shiny ghastly. Didn't have a whole lot of money though and I'd also have had to buy a second SP to do the trade.
I'd stopped playing when I was told that a slow clock meant the battery was dying but I'd expect the file to be gone by now. That's how it happened to my Silver, I hadn't turned it on for several months when I found the file gone.

This is not really an issue, the battery can be replaced by oneself. While I don't know how (and I didn't know about it until long after all mine had died and been trashed), plenty of players do and are willing to take the time. I've read that it's a pretty simple process and the battery replacements inexpensive, you can probably Google or Youtube it.

I recently bought Platinum and Black V.1 again for pretty cheap on an eBay deal, after having traded in my original copies last year. I didn't go back to them often, but I still started to miss having them...Every so often its nice to revisit old ground.

Two years ago for my birthday I had bought Emerald and Leafgreen off Ebay to get and play through the first-third generation (I liked the graphics and color of Leafgreen better then getting Red/Blue/Yellow, especially since those are ungodly expensive) so I could see what they were like. x3. I've been buying the games new (well, Platinum was just a super lucky find at my grandmother's house) and keeping them. I have no plans to sell any of them, either. ♥

I'm planning on completely restoring my Pokemon game collection, but I don't have the money to do it right now. I'm missing Red, Emerald, and Platinum. My Yellow and Crystal versions need new batteries, and for some reason, my copy of Silver refuses to work at all, so I'd have to replace that too. Amazingly enough, my copy of Gold still saves.

I recently repurchased Ruby which I had sold after getting bored with it as a child. I also purchased several other older Pokemon games (Sapphire, Leaf Green, Diamond, Pearl, Heart Gold, White, White 2) to complete my collection.

I bought Ruby & Sapphire again about two years ago, as I lost my Ruby from childhood quite a while ago. I also bought White & SS as the counterparts for already having HG and Black, just to have something to play, and I also had money to spare, and it would be highly unlikely for me to spend it on anything other than Pokémon games/merch lol.

EDIT: I have also probably bought fake Emeralds about 4 times a few years ago, I'm sick of getting fake games off Amazon that state proven quality on the buying page. Every time, I have complained to the seller and received a full refund lol, and end up giving the fakes to my neighbours kids (which isn't as bad as it sounds cause their pretty much too young to realise their fakes lol).

I've never sold any of my games so never had to repurchase them.

I have ventured into buying a ton of Pokemon games in bulk at bulk rates and am going to try my hand at selling them on eBay. I hope to hear some stories from buyers that are into the series. ^_^

I had to buy Emerald back for a second time. Mine was lost, so my brother bought me one but it was bootlegged, and that was years ago. So then my mother got me a real one last Christmas. Gotta rebuy Sapphire because my best friend lost my copy and I never had Ruby but still desire to collect it.

LeafGreen and FireRed were stolen but they were quickly and easily replaced. I'll miss you, shiny Ratatta!

Finally, Pokemon Yellow was stolen like the other two, and that one has yet to be purchased once more.

I own everything from Crystal-ORAS. And the remaining Gen 1 and Gen 2 games are too expensive for me to acquire. And if I ever want to experience the "retro" Pokemon experience again, I have Crystal. So I don't feel the need to buy the older games.

I never sold any of my games, even though I don't play the older games that often anymore. Well, recently I did start on Pokemon Sapphire again, just to compare it to AS (and nostalgia), for which I actually got the battery replaced (there's a store in my hometown that does it for you for only a couple euros, so totally worth it)

I am however looking for older games XD even though I own one of every pair and most third instalments (and have access to the other halves cause I've got a younger brother) I promised to look for a friend, who recently got into pokemon and wants to play her way up through the generations (starting with Leafgreen, as she's borrowing the third gen from me and those are the oldest games I own)

Finding the fourth gen is pretty hard though, cause most game stores that sell second hand games as well say they get em often, but they're also sold real quick again

I have the ability to dump the saves of my Pokémon games which I can restore to the cartridges if the battery ends up dying. Either way, I would agree it would be worth buying the older games if you come across them because replacing the battery doesn't take too much time at all.

I still have all of my "old" games; I never sold any of them off. At most, I rented a copy of Pearl so I could hit a local TRU event and grab an extra Manaphy, IIRC. But I still have everything.

As to whether or not Red and Silver still have functioning batteries, I can't tell you. And I'm pretty sure Crystal's battery died a looooooooong time ago. Ruby's internal battery has conked out but since that doesn't affect anything, I'm not upset about it.

I sold off some games when we were first planning to move. Earlier this year, I bought back Black and Black 2.

Will get Heart Gold and Diamond again soon.

Same here. I never sold any of my games but I did gave away my GBA games since I moved on to the 3DS.
