hmmm...
I'm no sprite expert but I find it best to go lighter than normal when coloring. For some reason, stuff gets darker when you zoom out.
what about something like this to start:
 
areseus is right and make you're hair like it is and take a full body shot of yourself so i can try to digitalize the clothes for you're sprite
 
I've already got all the clothes set out, I just needed skin. Thanks for the help!
 
It didn't come out very well. I need help with the neck.
