The latest CoroCoro magazine has revealed that in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the National Dex is obtained after completing the Shin'ō Dex. The National Dex enables players to transfer Pokémon from previous games to their new games.

Yikes, that means you can't trade with the 3rd generation until you can trade with another Diamond/Pearl to get the missing pokemon.

I'm sure ALOT of the first, second, and third gen will be in the wild.

Liam, you must read this post.

I am going to put aside every Pearl exclusives aside for you as you must do the same in your Diamond version so we can swap these pokemon over :)

Cheers.

...wow. o.o

Well, now there's motivation for catching 'em all. I think this may eb the first gen where I actually do it.

Actually, you don't have to trade. You just have to see every Pokemon, and since rivals, Gym Leaders, and Galaxy admins use starters and version exclusives, it should be complete shortly after the Elite 4 as long as you don't skip a lot of trainer battles.

This sucks. Why does Nintendo always make the games so tedious and time-consuming as possible?

How does it suck? You just have to play through the game without rushing till the Elite 4 . . . You have to see the other starters and the version-exclusives anyways to progress through the game because major characters posess them. The only Pokemon you'll have to go out and see are ones that are obtainable in-game anyways . .. it's a nice set-up, I think.

I'd rather trade over some of my own Pokemon before wasting my time trying to catch/see every D/P Pokemon. Plus you gotta waste your time trading the Pokes not in your version from the other game.

They should have let you trade from the GBA games as soon as you beat the Elite 4 or something.

...Did you not read the posts directly above you? You only have to SEE all the Pokemon, and all Pokemon can be seen in either game, because other Gym Leaders and Trainers use them.

Yeah. You don't have to catch them all.

I would find it unlikely that one would manage to miss SEEING more than a handful of Pokemon by the time one finishes of the Elite 4.

At least we do get backwards compatibility this time around.

Somehow I wonder if they should have repeated what they did with RSE. :D

Apparently, yes - you must see all 150. It also seems that the game does a few things to make that easier - for instance, someone shows you the other half of the Dialga/Palkia pair, and it is magically recorded in your Pokédex as well.
