As most of us know the fifth gym leader is fantinia who specializes in ghost types. Does anyone here think there is a possibility that ash may use his old noctowl for this battle. In the johto league he did the same thing.

However as we all know the writers tend to do retarded things and to tell you the truth I wouldn't be suprised if he did not use any of his old pokemon. Then again there may be a possibility that ash will catch a ghost type before that battle(one from kanto or one from this region).

I don't see Ash using any old Pokemon in Sinnoh. It feels like the same fresh start AG had.

Besides that, Noctowl is a very unpopular Pokemon. There's a reason why his whole Johto team was ignored in Battle Frontier.

I wish Noctowl would come back, but sadly it won't probably.

Maybe his Ambipom (as I expect him to have one by then) will use it's immunity to ghost attacks, but mix in some attacks that will hurt ghosts.

And he'll probably have a 5th Pokemon by then, one probably with an attack that can hit them.

I didn't even know that it had an immunity to ghosts thanks for telling me. I still have hope that ash will use at least one of his johto pokemon in a battle this season.

Noctowl's main advantage was knowing Foresight. The following Gen IV Pokémon can also learn it in Diamond and Pearl:

By level:

Buneary
Lopunny
Riolu
Lucario
Yanmega
Dusknoir

By breeding:

Starly
(Togekiss)
(Weavile)

So all Ash has to do is find a Move Tutor to teach it to Staravia.

For reference, here are the rest of the Pokémon that can learn it:
By level:

Venonat
Venomoth
Machop
Machoke
Machamp
Hitmonlee
Sentret
Furret
Hoothoot
Noctowl
Yanma
Mudkip
Marshtomp
Swampert
Sableye
Duskull
Dusclops

By breeding:

Squirtle
Pidgey
Psyduck
Mankey
Farfetch'd
Kangaskhan
Lapras
Aerodactyl
Cyndaquil
Girafarig
Surskit
Makuhita
Meditite
Shuppet

...or he could just battle ghost types with electric, grass, and whatever other elemental attacks he has by then.

The only way I see the Johto guys returning anytime soon if if a GS remake happens, and even then I mainly see just the starters.

Foresight makes the ghosts stay solid. Cyndaquil had an easier time when Foresight had been used on Morty's Pokémon.

Then again, her Drifblim (which will probably be her main battler) seems like one of the more "solid" ghost, such as how Bannette and Dusclops were portrayed as.

so all Ash has to do is find a Move Tutor to teach it to Staravia.
Stravia shooting out beams from it's eyes seems so right...0.o

Turtwig's Bite could come in handy being a dark type move after all....
