PLOT: It has been ten Turns (Years) since Thread, a parasitic spore, has fallen from the Red Star onto the faraway world of Pern. You are a new dragonrider (Called a Weyrling) at Benden Weyr, and you and your friends discover that Thread, for the destruction of which, dragons were bred, is falling again.

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tHERE IS A LOT OF STUFF TO READ BELOW. IF YOU READ ALL OF IT, PUT "By The Egg Of Faranth" IN THE "OTHER" SLOT OF YOUR SU. ONLY THOSE WITH THAT REQUIREMENT WILL BE ACCEPTED.

About Dragons:
Gold dragons, also called queens, are the largest dragons (40–45 feet long) and the only fertile females. Gold dragons are by far the rarest dragons on Pern, at just less than 1% of the population. They are dominant over all other colors; any non-gold dragon will invariably obey a queen's orders, even against the wishes of its own rider. Queens are incapable of digesting firestone and producing flame (see below); however, they do fight Thread - they fly in the lowest wing, with their riders armed with specially designed flamethrowers to flame any Thread missed by the above wings. An egg that is going to hatch a gold dragon is notable: It is gold-colored and larger than other eggs. A gold dragon will always Impress a heterosexual female and are believed by most Weyrfolk to prefer young women who were not raised in the Weyr.

Bronze dragons are the largest males (35–45 feet long), although they are generally significantly smaller than the queens. Bronzes only comprise of about 5% of all dragons. They are almost always the ones to mate with queens, as the smaller colors generally lack the stamina to chase and catch the gold dragons when they rise to mate. Due to the 5-1 bronze/gold ratio and the infrequency of gold mating flights, they often mate with greens (the losers of a gold flight almost always seek a green for their needs), but their size often puts them at a disadvantage in chasing the agile, smaller females. The senior bronze of a Weyr is determined through which bronze wins the mating flight of the senior gold. In canon Pern, the rider of a bronze dragon is always a heterosexual male.

Brown dragons are the next largest color (feet feet long). About 15% of all dragons are brown. They may occasionally mate with queens, although this is rare, and becomes even more rare as the dragons increase in size; by Ramoth's time in the Ninth Pass it is unheard-of. All brownriders in the Pern novels are men; most are heterosexual, but bisexual or "masculine" homosexual brownriders are not rare.

Blue dragons are the smallest males (24–30 feet long) and make up about a third (30%) of all dragons on Pern. They are nearly as agile as greens, but unlike the greens, they often have enough stamina to last for an entire Threadfall. They mate only with greens, as they are simply too small to keep up with a massive queen over a long mating flight. There are few prominent blue dragons or blueriders in the books. Some assume the position of teaching the new riders after their Impression. Canon blueriders are typically homosexual or bisexual, though some are heterosexual. In interviews, Anne has stated that homosexual women may be able to Impress a Blue dragon, however it has not yet happened in the books.

Green dragons are the smallest normal color (20–24 feet long), and make up about half of all dragons on Pern (50%). They are female, but unlike the queens, they are infertile due to the chronic use of firestone and can produce flame. They are extremely valuable in Threadfall because of their agility, but they lack the stamina to last an entire Fall and generally fly in two or three shifts. Originally, greens Impressed to girls; however, after various natural disasters and plagues decimated Pern's population, women were needed to help repopulate the planet. Since going between during pregnancy can induce miscarriage and because removing pregnant riders from the Wings reduced the effectiveness of the Wings, it became impractical to present large numbers of women as candidates for Impression. Thus, green dragons began Impressing homosexual boys; by the time of the end of the 2nd Pass, female greenriders were becoming rare. By the time of Moreta in the 6th Pass, female greenriders were entirely forgotten, although greens gradually begin Impressing to women again in the 9th Pass. Females of any sexual orientation may Impress Green.

About Impression:
Impression is a joining of mind, heart, and soul, at the time of a dragonet's Hatching to his or her rider A dragon only has one rider, and the two are partners for life. If the rider dies, the dragon will go Between to nowhere, effectively killing itself. If the dragon dies, the rider will most-often kill his/herself, though some stay alive

About Between:
Between in Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series is a dimension through which dragons, watch-whers and fire lizards travel during the process of teleportation, referred to as "going between". If the dragon does not have a clear picture of its destination in mind, it is possible for the dragon and its passengers to become permanently lost in this dimension. Deliberately going "between" without a destination in mind is how dragons suicide, usually occurring when the rider that they are soul-bonded to dies of illness or injury, or if the dragon itself is mortally injured. Many characters, fire lizards, and dragons have been lost "between" (i.e. "Moreta's Ride"). In Todd McCaffrey's Dragonsblood, several make it out of "between" after they are lost.

"Between" is universally described as a place of nothingness. Usually, for a dragon to teleport using its rider's directions, they stay in "between" for the time that it takes to cough three times. Fire lizards take eight seconds to teleport anywhere on the planet. "Between" frequently causes cystitis and child-bearing problems in female dragonriders. Going "between" without proper coordinates is a frequent cause of death for inexperienced weyrlings. Dragons generally excrete in Between, except young dragons.[1]

"Between" is characterized by extreme cold (far below zero yet not as cold as outer space) and induces near-total sensory deprivation in humans who travel through it on dragonback. There appears to be no breathable air "between", and riders who make exceptionally long journeys suffer the effects of oxygen deprivation. In later books, an expedition on dragonback to the Red Star wears spacesuits to alleviate this problem; dragons can hold their breath for much longer than humans without ill effects. Dragons and fire lizards deliberately go "between" to destroy any Thread which they come in contact with, as the extreme cold causes it to freeze almost instantly, whereupon it can be safely brushed off dragon or rider.

Dragons are also capable of travelling "between" times, but this can only be used when they have a point of reference for that time, such as star positions or a vivid memory. The White Dragon, Ruth, could travel between to any time without fail, including to the future. "Timing it" was known to many riders a long time ago, but, since Lessa and Ramoth brought the weyrs forward, it was kept a secret. Riders who "Time" to a very distant era without protective gear, or to a past location in close proximity of their past self can experience fatal fatigue and disorientation. Since its discovery, the knowledge of this ability has been restricted, and only Bronze dragons are permitted to utilise it under directions from the Weyrleaders. The ability was suppressed by the nature of the weyrling training in going "between", as weyrlings were deliberately given reference points which would ensure they remained in their own time. It was only when Lessa jumped "between" on her own initiative when barely trained that she rediscovered the capability.

Weyrs and Crafts:
"A Weyr is where a dragon is, no-matter what it's made-of." -Brekke to F'nor, Dragonquest. A Weyr, offically, is a place where dragons and their riders live.

A Crafthall is where Craftsmen live and hone their skill. (Harperhall of Harpers [singers and teachers], Smithhall, Winehall [winemakers], Healerhall)

Holds:
Members of specialized professions on Pern live in Crafthalls and dragonriders live in Weyrs, but for most people, the Hold is both the residence and primary social authority.

Throughout most of Pern, Holds are made up of either stone buildings or networks of caverns both natural and man-made. By shuttering any windows and barring the door, this makes the Holds ideal shelter in times of Threadfall. Holds are under tight strictures to keep Thread-susceptible greenery away from the entrances.

There are three types of Hold. Major Holds are the largest and most politically powerful. These Major Holds are analogous to Greek city-states, with a large (for Pern) quasi-urban center of perhaps one thousand residents (the Hold itself) surrounded by a vast, mostly rural territory under the Hold's jurisdiction of 10,000 or more additional residents. When referring to a Major Hold, a speaker might mean either this entire region or only the urban center.

The Major Holds are ruled by a Lord Holder, whose power is largely unchecked in his domain so long as he fulfills his responsibility to the Hold's residents; namely, he provides residents protection from Thread, an appropriate education, and food and shelter in return for labor. The Lord provides protection from Thread by tithing a percentage of the Hold's agriculture and other materiel to the Weyr to which his Hold looks.

As the series opens in the novel Dragonflight, there are fifteen such Major Holds, occupying the entire Northern Continent (other than the uninhabitable Arctic). These holds are listed below.

Under the jurisdiction of the Major Holds are Minor Holds. These can range widely in size, but operate not unlike a Major Hold on a smaller scale. Despite the name, some of the larger Minor Holds may approach the population of a Major Hold's urban center. Nonetheless, they are subject to the Major Hold of which they are a part and to which they tithe. Minor Holds are managed by a Holder, not a Lord. In many cases, however, a Lord Holder will install his son as Holder at a Minor Hold; the son retains the hereditary title of Lord.

The more rural members of the population live in cotholds. These are much smaller vassal holds, often consisting of a single extended family located near the fields, pasture, or other site of the holders' agricultural pursuits

Sign-Up, with me as an example:
Name: Tsenni (No last-names, this is a pre-industial societty; and names should be exoctic and unusual. Boys' names are shortened with a conjunction at Impression, because hurt dragons would slur their riders' name in Threadfall. For-example, Fallernon, when he Impressed, became F'lar)

Age: 14 (Nine is the youngest you can stand on the Hatching-Grounds, and twenty is the oldest, but mostly, older children, teens, are used)

Gender: Female

Dragon: Gold Arlith (Only two other golds, three is the limit of junior queenriders at Benden. All dragon's names end in -th)
Appearance: (Picture or deatailed descritpin, I'd prefer pictures, as they're easier)

I'm still confused about the plot and this whole pern thingy..
Can ya explain it more?

Pern is a planet in the Sagitarian sector that was inhabited millions of years ago by Earhtlings, but they lost-contact eventually. There is a sister-planet to Pern called the Red Star. When the Red Star passes close-enough to Pern, it drops thread on it. Thread is a parasitic spore that devours anything it touches. Dragons were bred to defend Pern from Thread. They chew firestone and breathe fire (Except for the queens, whose riders use flamethrowers). Thread hasn't fallen in a long time.

The plot of thids Rp is that a group of Weyrlings- young, new dragonriders- discover that Thread is falling again, and have to stop it.
