Before BW, i always try to get the old rod whenever possible (To get a powerful bulky water) but at BW, i cant get any rod before post-game where I get super rod so I am forced to use non-waters because the pokemons I can caught by surfing are weak (ok not all are weak but they are like basculin or jellicent which is not my style). Anyone want the previous 2 rods back in the 3rd version?

I quite like the whirlpool spots where you can catch rare pokemon, including ones that require a Water Stone to evolve. I'm not sure how reinstating the Old Rod and Good Rod would integrate with those.

Their only fear is that they don't want ppl to have a gen I pokemon before they can go to the poketransfer lab. Unova is supposed to be far away from the other reigons (presumably in a different country), so if they brought back the old rod (which historically can only catch magikarp) they would be allowing players to use the same old gen I pokemon, which is exactly what they were trying to prevent. granted i DO want the rods back (for my own selfish gen I fanboy desires to be satisfied), but realistically I don't see it happening. Maybe the good rod can make a comeback, but probably not the old rod.

However, I do have to give Pokemon major props for having a comeback of the magikarp salesman! I was overly excited when I saw that

I'm pretty indifferent... though having an Old/Good rod was a nice way to get Water Pokemon before Surf in the older regions which had lots of water types.
The only reason those rods are gone in BW is the lack of water-types in the Unova dex, which isn't really such a bad thing in itself. All but three (Frillish, Jellicent and Alomomola) of the region's water-types are available without having to use Surf, so having different rods would have been fairly pointless.

I hated rods ever since Gen III cause I had to press the A button epic fast when [!] appears above my PC. But I always fail with the super rod... so ever since then, I hated rods. I don't want them to return.

I miss them, they're not really needed in B/W though, every aquatic Pokémon in Unova pre national dex can be caught with Surf.

The random, quick button pressing was what made it interesting, imo.

I hated the multiple rods.
The Good Rod is just pointless as you get the superrod eventually. And either you can catch everything it could still with better rates, or you need to remember which rod catches what which is a huge pain.

And the Old Rod is a joke item. A pond of Magikarp would have the same result anyway.

You mean like in Sinnoh? :p

While I was kinda at a loss in terms of finding a good water type in-game, I feel like the old/good rods aren't needed, so I wasnt really all that sad at their passing.

Nah. I only wish the Super Rod was obtainable pre-game ending. I mean, sure, the way things are coded, you instantly have a chance of older Pokes with fishing (damn Krabby...), but couldn't they have made it so you could get Unova Pokes pre-ending and add the others in Post-game?

But the other rods are worthless. The Super Rod will get you everything you need anyway, and once you get the Super Rod, you never use the others. Besides, the old rod can't exist in Unova, for reasons specified beforehand by other posters.

And the Magikarp man finally makes sense. Gives you the only in-game obtainable Magikarp (no-trading or PokeTransfer) for 500 bucks. Makes. So. Much. Sense. Thank you writers, for the perfect tie-in.

I never really bothered with the two weaker rods much unless I needed them to complete the 'Dex. I really don't use the rods much in general anyway; I usually go with the Water starter.
At any rate, I never liked how the older rods were almost always redundant as soon as the Super Rod was obtained, so I'm glad that the rods have been streamlined a bit.

I'm not that bothered. Like Arc Blader, I never bothered with any of the rods except the Super Rod. You can find most of the Water-type Pokémon in Unova by surfing, anyway, and it's not like they're weak.

I don't mind really I never really used them myself and I when I did I didn't get any interesting Pokemon most of time from them . I also like the lower levelled water types because I can control their EV's better when they are at a weak level.

Whilst the lack of rods during the main story mode annoys me, it doesn't come as a much of a shock. Fishing is a heavily neglected feature that GF only throws in every generation out of habit and in which there's probably a lot of untapped potential, IMO.

I never go fishing. Really. It doesn't matter to me what rods aren't included!
