Returning Characters and their Roles

Okay, so with the confirmed return of Dawn and Cynthia, it's obviously natural to expect/hope for other characters to return, right? RIGHT?

I am very hopeful for Paul to play a role in the BW, because as @adyniz; has mentioned:

Since it's a Pokemon League, it will be weird if Paul is not there.

Any other predictions? Brock? Misty? Gary? Volkner? Discuss!
 
I think that's it. I doubt we'll see tons of old Gym leaders returning. I suppose Brock could show up though.

If Paul appears he will likely declare his love for either Ash or Dawn. The fandom will not be amused.
 
I really hope Paul will appear... he should be AT LEAST mentioned...
Note how the two characters we know of returning in the anime are from the DP series... it's also important to note that Cynthia's whole character in the anime was strongly related to the Ash/Paul rivalry
I doubt we'd see any of the past Gym Leaders... if it was ONLY Misty and Brock, I'd say they'd appear... but since it's just a big crazy collection of all Gym Leaders, Elite Four members and Champions in one place, I really doubt the anime will do anything with it... they're doing their own thing of "past characters returning" and are focused on the recent DP series - at least so it seems to me...
I also approve of the above suggestion of Barry appearing and meeting Bianca, it'd be as good as Pip and Osha meeting
 
If the "world tournament" is open for the public (and is included in the anime) with minimal entry requirements (let's say, must have participated in at least one league or something), I can definitely see a mass exodus around the world for that event...and possibly seeing every significant rival that Ash has ever faced in one location. Barry, Conway, Ritchie and Paul all included :p

Put there Nando instead of Richie, at least he had unique design and good battles XD I wanted to say Gary too but since he's not a rival anymore and changed to researcher I doubt we'll see him in anything like this... too bad
Also, I just want to emphasize again that the scan only called this a "Battle Tournament"

Wait, what... I thought Ash and Paul already declared their love to each other? Like, back when Ash run after him after their battle in the Sinnoh League? (or... that's how my head views things, at least...)
 
Urara would stalk Hikari to Isshu, and they have a battle, and Urara wins with her new Gablias, and she becomes a Top Coordinator, and she usurps Shirona, and and and....

More realistically she gets a cameo in a flashback of Hikari's ;__;
 
I really do wonder who exactly are Dawn's rivals in Hoenn
We have no idea what Nando, Zoey, Kenny or Ursula did after Sinnoh... we know Zoey went to celebrate with Candice, but what did she do after that? Dawn was supposed to tell her about Buneary's fashion thing and go with her to Hearthome or something, I think? they never told us what went with that in that "special" Dawn got... while Zoey already won the Sinnoh GF, Solidad continued to Johto after winning the Kanto GF, so I'm sure Zoey will want to continue too especially with her "never be content with your current power" or whatever she said back then... we know Kenny went to a new journey and that Dawn promised him they'll meet again eventually since they share the same goal, but did they really meet again in Hoenn or did Kenny go to another region? For Ursula we know even less than that... and Nando I don't really expect to ever hear of again actually...
I really hope Dawn will show us her ribbons and tell us about her rivals, complete with some nice and detailed flashbacks (and not the lame ones May got in her DP appearance... I want to see more than that)
 
Okay....

I think this World Tournament thing will contain all the gym leaders and Cynthia will have to invite the competitors which means Ash and PAUL,etc, maybe even Dawn because I don't think this is the Champion leauge! Obviously this competition will take at least a whole season if not 2!

I say Dawn and Cynthia will be main/reccuring characters...Hoping for main especially DAWN!

Dawn - If not for the tournament then maybe Buneary/Lopunny might have gotten some kind of job to do in Unova I mean it is supposed to be like NYC
Cynthia - Why would they showcase multiple of her pokemon (assuming Dragonite & Lucario are hers) if she was only here for a few episodes.. plus i think her and dawn are as far as Iris and Cilan from Ash so....
Paul - just PLEASE COME BACK! plus it could be for the tournamnet
Misty - gym leader!
Forrest - Brock's not a gym leader in the anime so he'd be replace by Forrest
Giovanni - gym leader to replace Blue because Gary is a proffesor not a gym leader + TR/meoletta
All the other gym leaders/champions - tournament
Brock - IDK but he should come back!
Tracey - should come with Misty
and May & Max- Glaceon is on the cover and maybe May met up with Dawn in Hoenn and they decided to come together to Unova for whatever reason Dawn has to go and Max will go to
Barry - so he could crash into Bianca and reveal that theyre cousins

ASH'S OLD POKEMON----- So he could WIN the Tournament! I mean with a team of Pikachu, Charizard, Infernape, Sceptile, Gliscor, & Snorlax how could he lose?

Gary & other reccuring should also come back for ME! & for whatever reason the writers think of when I threaten them to do so! ;)

I don't see the writers bringing back tons of old Gym leaders at all. There's simply too many, its not a one-off thing like Jasmine in DP.

I see the writers bringing back Lance and maaaybe Steven, but that's about it. Just so all 4 champions are in it, such as Lance, Cynthia, Steven and Adeku who debuted.
 
For the world torunament, Ash will see Misty and Brock and introduce himself to them while they introduce themselves to Ash, making Kanto noncanon.
In all seriousness, this is what I think:

Cynthia: Hoster of the WT.
Dawn: She'll go to Unova and travel with Ash because she somewhat likes him because the writers love to annoy us because she has no reason.
Kasumi: Nothing special, maybe a miniarc.
Takeshi: Nothing special, maybe a miniarc, more girls annoyance.
Lance: Do nothing.
Gary: Annoy Ash.
Giovanni: Interuppt the WT.

I am not a PearlShipper. Just a joke. But I might.
 
Conway might be a bit much to hope for, but I'll be overjoyed he does appear. Because that mysterious blinking light in Dawn's backpack is most certainly not a tracking device...
 
I wonder if any of Dawn's rivals will show up, but I am guessing not. Most likely they'll get a passing mention like May's did.
 
When I saw Onix on the scan yesterday I though: "Yay! Brock is back!" then I remembered, it evolved :(


I do want to see Paul in this series. Battling Trip. and having a flawless victory. Please?

I want to see a Satoshi/Shinji (or Satoshi/Shigeru) v Denzi/Oba battle because... shipping. XD And Dent, on the sidelines, channeling his Monmen episode self explaining all the subtext. :3
 
I'd love to see gym leaders from previous regions appearing. But realistically, all I'm betting at is either Paul or Gary.

Considering Gary only got 3 episodes back in DP, I doubt the writers find him that interesting. I can see him not appearing. He's not a Gym leader in the anime.
 
I could see Misty and Brock playing some important role in BW 2 filler arc as well. Yes we know there are ton of other gym leaders appearing in new games too, but i believe writers could do selection only including some of them. If anyone were to get recognition from past gym leaders it would be Misty and Brock because they were much more important to this show being main characters at one point. Their return would polute bigger benefit to pokemon series than random return of some minor gym leader long forgotten from past. They are original traveling companions, has huge following with many demanding their return and this would be perfect opportunity for writers to make them relevant to series again helping to promote better new games thanks to their popularity and iconic status.

That being said if writers decide to bring them back:
I could see Misty getting some special arc either plying role in world tournament (if we get it)being invited by Cynthia as gym leader. That said she could play some role in Iris becoming gym leaders as well(assuming sh ends up as Drayden apprentice), since both characters have quite a few things in common. Or she could meet up with Ah and co on road traveling to advance maybe her goal of becoming water master(last time i checked we do not know if she still wants to achieve it or not).

However i would like even more if she returns to main cast, being interesting to find more about past and character, receive more development doing new things becoming important to series again. Purpose could be for various reasons.Like traveling to advance her goal of becoming master of water types wanting to learn from other powerful water trainers ,or being on quest trying to become E4 and introducing tasks or evaluators she would need to pass to determine if said character has potential for such thing giving her some quality development. Since she wants to become top water trainer its not that much farfetched being logical continuation from current position. With such move writers could make Misty becoming important to Ash story since his goal involves battling E4.

But if she gets 4 to 5 episodes arc i would gladly accept it as well, giving us chance to get update on character, what new pokemon she got, see her in action battling and interacting with new characters etc. And receive some good development herself , which she could definitely use.

Brock could return to get some arc for himself which will focus on his doctor carer utilizing knowledge he learned in meantime, and perhaps of occasion allows be involved in some competition and battle. I would like to see cooking competition between him and Cilan too. That would be one interesting clash to watch.

It would be nice to see him finally finding girl of his dreams, but if he didn't had success for 13 years i doubt something would have changed in year or two. Not like this show was ever based much on romance either, so this sinks chances for something being done about it as well.

Perhaps reunion of original trio isn't so impossible after all.

As for Dawn im not sure for what she will appear but i doubt she will return as main, and honestly if there was someone to become main again there are other candidates i would rather want back instead.

Eh... no 0__o it's just one single tournament... the scan refers to it as a "Battle Tournament" - batoru taikai... "taikai" is how they usually refer to a tournament like the various Contests or the tag battles tournament, etc... this is likely to be about as long as these were, meaning about 5 eps at most, and probably less than that...

I agree with that - if it was just one or two specific ones, I'd think they might appear... but since it seems to be ALL the Gym Leaders + E4s + Champions we ever had, it's pretty obvious this won't happen in the anime... they're doing their own "bring past characters back" thing, with Cynthia Dawn confirmed so far (and other than possibly Lance, I can see only other DP characters returning, nothing from AG or earlier)

Steven wasn't even a Champion in the anime... he was just a random COTD
In DP we finally got to see Wallace and they mention that in addition to being a Gym Leader and Top Coordinator, he's also a Champion
So if we're going to see anyone in BW appearing as the Hoenn Champion, it'll probably be Wallace, since anime-wise he's a DP character and since unlike Steven he actually was stated to be a Champion in the anime

As I said before - we don't even know what any of them did eventually... I hope we at the very least get to learn what ended up with them, hopefully with some more detailed flashbacks than May's ones...
