Returning Characters?

So as we know, characters from other Pokémon games tend to reappear in future instalments (sometimes as major plot elements and other times as mere cameos). For example, Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver featured Steven Stone giving the player a Hoenn starter and Cynthia appeared in Black/White.

Considering Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire's interesting place in the timeline (set at least five years before the events of XY), what characters would you like to see return and in what capacity?

Personally, I'd like to see something like:
  • The Elite 4 member Glacia mentions in Ruby/Sapphire that she trained in a faraway region prior to moving to Hoenn, so maybe we could see Lorelei briefly return, giving both of them a bit more back story by revealing that Lorelei trained (or trained with) Glacia on Floe Island (of the Sevii Islands)
  • Kalos' Water-type specialist Siebold has a rather exquisite taste, much like the Sootopolis Gym Leader Wallace. Could a younger Siebold make an appearance as Wallace's understudy? His focus on culinary arts could also possible fit in with Pokéblocks and Wallace's history of being a co-ordinator.
  • Looker could make an appearance, tasked with rounding up the remaining members of Team Magma/Aqua in a post-game story.
  • As we know, Steven Stone is a collector of rare stones. After the events of the main story, could he be the character that gives the player the Mega Ring, while making reference to a contact of his who is an "up and coming understudy of the Sinnoh region's Professor Rowan". Or maybe, as we don't really know how old Professor Sycamore actually is, he could appear in person to give the player the Mega Ring.
  • According to the timeline of the games, Professor Rowan left Sinnoh to study Kanto Pokémon alongside Professor Oak four years prior to the start of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. As we know that the time-gap between Gen I/III and Gen II/IV is 3 years, it's highly possible that Rowan and Oak are still in the Kanto region. So that does raise the question of who could give the player the Sinnoh starters if they are made available. Maybe that role could be filled by Cynthia, similar to Steven's appearance in the fourth generation HeartGold/SoulSilver pair?

Maybe Rowan himself could appear in the games to meet up with Birch in person and give us the Sinnoh Starters

If Looker appears, I'd like it to be portrayed that this was his first official mission and was sent there because nobody took Team Aqua and Magma as a serious threat--however, after getting involved with a Legendary Pokemon plot, Looker got a promotion as a full fledged agent of the Global Police.

According to the timeline of the games, Professor Rowan left Sinnoh to study Kanto Pokémon alongside Professor Oak four years prior to the start of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. As we know that the time-gap between Gen I/III and Gen II/IV is 3 years, it's highly possible that Rowan and Oak are still in the Kanto region.

Just because he studied with Oak for four years, doesn't mean that he wouldn't have visited other researchers. His primary collaboration was with Oak, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't have visited other researchers. We also know that Rowan returned to Sinnoh some time around the Mahogany Town events based on the reports of a Red Gyarados, yet Oak was in Johto for a brief period to give Ethan/Lyra their Pokedex.

You raise some interesting points.

The previous remakes had guest appearances/cameos by characters who weren't in the originals, and chances are good it can happen again.

Just so long as it doesn't screw up the overall plot, I'm okay with some neat cameos :)

I'd like to see Grimsley or Karen meet Sidney. Since they are the only known Dark type Masters I imagine they must know one another. Sidney could even be Karen/Grimsley's mentor. He's certainly old enough to be. As for a returning Professor, I'd like to see Cedric Juniper. Rowan wouldn't make sense at all considering his field of study is evolution. Cedric Juniper studies Pokemon distribution which Professor Birch happens to study.

Scott must return. Scott must return. Scott must return...

*shakes head*

Ah, sorry, Emerald mantras.

Anyway, I'd like to see them throw in the Oak cameo, and perhaps even a (young?) Sycamore or even Juniper as a bonus.

This is just me throwing some ideas out there...

It would make sense for Bruno to come back since he and Brawly did some training together. Maybe he decided to do a visit to Floe Island with Lorelei and Brawly gets involved somehow.

Fantina (and maybe Jasmine... and maybe Johanna?) could be in Lilycove City to participate in contests. Actually, it'd be interesting if Super Contests were brought to Sinnoh because Fantina was inspired by contests in Hoenn. And especially since Lilycove City is close to Mt. Pyre, I can see her at least mentioning something about the mountain--maybe she started using Ghost types after doing some sightseeing there? And speaking of contests--maybe contests could be part of the reason why Malva decided to get involved with Team Flare? I can't remember much of Malva's story, but maybe she and Flannery could be related to each other somehow, and were both inspired to use Fire-type Pokémon for similar reasons. Malva was then inspired by contests to help bring more beauty into the world, and so she starts her own adventure to find people who have similar sentiments. Lysandre could potentially be involved in all this, as well.

Continuing with E4 members returning (because some of them seriously need some backstory). Wikstrom & Steven may have also known each other for some time--assuming Wallace makes an appearance in these games as a Champion in some capacity, maybe Wikstrom visits after hearing the news that Steven lost his Champion title. Someone already suggested that Siebold would be associated with Wallace, and I think that would work for him. (Or maybe Juan, if they want to bring him back even though he may not be a Gym Leader in these games.) Maybe Aaron has some sort of reason for visiting the Pattern Bush on Fortune Island if the Sevii Islands return? Oh, and it would be cute if Viola was doing photography work there and we find out that Aaron has a crush on her or something! And we could potentially find out that Bertha was once a Ruin Maniac before joining the E4, and is doing research in the desert on Route 111 because she misses her adventures.

I can see Anabel from the Battle Frontier being retconned to being a Tower Tycoon internationally instead of a Salon Maiden, and have her have some sort of connection with Palmer somehow, maybe through Scott?

I definitely agree that the Dark-type E4 members (Karen, Grimsley, and Sydney) should know each other--maybe they can even make a joke about the lack of Dark-type gyms! I also think Rowan could still give out the Sinnoh starters to the player character--it would actually be cool if he and Oak (and Sycamore?) were all in Hoenn/the Sevii Islands doing research together. And as someone mentioned, Cedric Juniper specialized in Pokémon distribution, and maybe he & Birch could do some research. Prof. Juniper (as a Backpacker perhaps?) could also be a part of the research. And then that leaves Prof. Elm...

-Rowan and Sycamore in Hoenn thanks to whatever plot needs for the Mega-Evolutions arise. Would explain why Sycamore started researching mega evos, and it would make sense to have a better authority on it then Birch. Considering also how big a role the later Prof. play in the story compared to Birch, it would be excellent to expand on him as a more laid back inexperienced guy, who needs help from someone more experienced. Which would be Rowan, who has Sycamore as his lackey.
-Fantina as ^ said would be pretty fun as well.

In general though, yeah characters that we've seen in events years after Hoenn would be excellent. The series has been doing call backs a lot the past 6 years, and Hoenn would be the perfect place to set up some amazing call forwards instead.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm really looking forward to meeting Gabby and Ty again! Ahh, back when Pokemon TV was good.

Bonus points if she comes back the head of a news station similar to ONBS in Orre.

After replaying Emerald i seriously want them to be in OR/AS, many times i laughed at their interviews, "SWAMPERT, LUDICOLO and... DIET, that's deep!".

And the Bard seriously need to be in OR/AS, the lyrics of his songs were awesome, an example:
Shake it
Do
The Diet
Dance

I want Diantha in Hoenn to premiere her new movie at the Evergrande City movie theater. I just feel that she was so underused, we need more backstory. Looker, of course. Right there we have both Gen. 4 and Gen. 6 represented. Maybe Lance, who could represent both Gen. 1 and Gen. 2? He could visit his fellow Champion Steven/Wallace. And then we could meet a young N in Petalburg Woods and he could comment on how long it's been since his father found him there and gave him a new life. But for that, we'd need to add the Darumaka, Woobat and Zorua families to the Hoenn roster since N was found with them (or maybe he just lived in the Unova forest with them instead of with Ghetsis in the castle?)

Lance would be E4

Diantha would be an old movie coz XY is a load of years after

Don't ruin N by randomly having him be from Hoenn, what would be the point of that

So? Lance might still be E4 at that time, but he's still going to be the Johto champion. We don't know how far apart the Kanto and Hoenn storylines are from each other. Maybe by the time Brendan/May start out their journey, Red's already defeated Blue and left the Indigo League (for a yet undisclosed reason). Or maybe Lance steps up around the same time as the Kyogre/Groudon conflict in Sootopolis. There'd be a variety of explanations for why Lance is already Champion in ORAS, despite them being in the same time period as RBGY/FRLG.

XY take place about ten years after Gen. I and Gen. III. So since Diantha seems to be early to mid 20's like all the other Champions (except Alder, Iris and Blue) she'd probably be a tween actress. So it'd fit. I just need more backstory for her so she's not such a bland Champion. Even Wallace is cooler than her right now.

As for N, I'd rather have him come to Hoenn on his dragon after the B/W storyline, but those happen 8 years after RSE, and one can assume the same is true for the remakes. And I need more of N. One of the best characters in the series.

And then Looker, of course. I'd much rather have Emma and Mimi make cameos looking for him, but Mimi probably hasn't been born at this point, and Emma's 6 (as opposed to the 16 year old we know and love in X/Y). This would actually be Looker's first chronological appearance if they put him in, and maybe we could finally get some backstory aside from what we've experienced with him in Sinnoh and Unova (and the sad news that his Croagunk was killed between Unova and Kalos...)

Rowan appearing would be interesting. I'd love to see him interacting (or better, scolding) a Team Aqua/Magma grunt, like he did with two Team Galactic grunts in DPPt. Also, you know what would be cool? Alder appearing in the remakes, but obviously a bit younger than he is in the Gen V games. Maybe with his deceased Pokémon in his team (who was the deceased Pokémon, anyway? Was it ever stated in BW/B2W2?).

Bulbapedia says that BW2 said (hinted) it was a Larvesta/Volcarona.

At the PWT, Alder says:
"The spirit of my first partner, Larvesta - no, Volcarona - lives on in my current partners, too! I want to add your strength to their experience as well!"

Gabby and Ty need to take over the Holo Caster duties from Malva, at the very least.

I'm sure we'll only see Gabby there--but wouldn't it be interesting? They interview you and then you see yourself on the Holocaster.

Or at least the Pokenav equilvalent. I dunno how the HoloCaster would exist 10+ years before TF invented it.

That is true, unless we're given an early prototype of it. I imagine the feature as is will probably return at the very least, just with a different name and appearance. Maybe the PokéNav now has a screen in it?

I'd like to see some references to Ty though; like maybe random comments about how he's apparently a bad camera man (in reference to how you can basically move the camera wherever you want).
