Not sure if this is the place to post this, but literally half an hour ago I dug up my old cards from my wardrobe - the gods alone know why they were in there. Apparently they're cards from the Base, Base Set 2, Team Rocket, Fossil, Jungle, and Gym Heroes decks (At leat from what I can tell from the wiki)

First question - what are these cards worth now? Still junk or considered rarities?

Second question - where can I find a set of the basic rules? They don't seem to be on the wiki and I don't remember much from when I first playes

Thanks for any help

If you were to buy a Starter deck, you would find a few staples in them, along with 1-2 rares and energy and junk. You would also find a rulebook in which you could find all of the changes since old rules. You'll also find a chart stating what the rules with the old sets were. It'll also, if its not HGSS, tell you about Lv. X's and stuff like that. If you can't spend money on it, then you'll be stuck with google.

As for the others, you'd have to ask somebody else. I have no idea.

If you have any 1st Edition Base Set stuff, that's worth a lot. Anything else is hit or miss, but nothing from those sets other than 1st Ed Base will go for a lot.

Try buying a starter deck. It will come with a rule book you'll presumably find very helpful.

Just chiming in to say you can indeed sell first edition base sets as well as the other first few series for quite a good amount. I ended up selling all mine a couple years ago on eBay. I was able to sell my three first edition Charizard cards individually and they all went for over 100 bucks each! Several other holographic cards like Gyarados and Alakazam each went for over 50$. I was surprised to say the least. I look back at it now and almost wish I hadn't sold them... but if you do decide you want to sell just make sure that you won't regret it later. :D

My advice - don't fret so much about not having a good deck in the beginning. Buy a starter you like, start looking up stuff about the current scene and legal cards, then start planning. Buy stuff as your budget allows it, trade any shinies you don't need, and then start building. That's what I did after returning to the game after a 7-year hiatus, so I think you'll be fine.
