hey folks! As you may be aware, the current season of Review League is set to end at the end of February, and we're excited to kick off Season 1 in March! Before we do that, we want to hear from you (yes YOU) to make sure the next season is something you'll enjoy!

You do not need to be a current member of Review League to participate! In fact, if there's something about RL that's keeping you on the sidelines, we'd love to hear about that too.

Here are some things that we are currently already looking to tweak for Season 1:
  • Prize cost--because Season 0 also used points from the previous league, the prizes were a lot more expensive. Now that we have a bit more data on how different users accumulate points, we intend to lower the cost of seasonal prizes in Season 1.
  • Comments--comments were part of our seasonal theme for this year, and we are intending to transition that to be part of the standard ruleset.
  • Word Count Bonus--like the reading bonus, the word count bonus will be calculated as a running total across the season, instead of per-review. Previously, a 400 word review and a 600 word review would only have +3 points for word count, while a single 1000 word review would be +4.
    • There will be some formal language to make this more official, but basically your word total will be tracked across the entire season, and the word count bonus will be divided across that instead.
    • If this is confusing, do not worry! Like the reading bonus, this will be tracked passively.
Here are some things that we are looking to get your feedback on for Season 1:
  • Do you have any strong thoughts on the topics above?
  • Do you have ideas for a new seasonal theme? Either in aesthetic (i.e. what pokemon should be on the badge) or rules/mechanics (i.e. "incentivize reading longfics" or "reward reading a variety of authors")?

And here are some things that we are probably not going to change this Season. You're welcome to weigh in on them, and we will keep this in mind for future Seasons, but it's probably too close to Season 1 to seriously entertain changing the items on this list:
  • Lifetime points shop will likely remain the same
  • General prize formula will likely remain the same (we could consider reweighting it, but we would like more data first)
  • General timeframe of seasons lasting 6 months, and starting in March/September, will likely remain the same
