According to multiple sources, Warner Bros. is down to three choices for who will play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern film: Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake.

All three actors had a deal with Warners to commit to the film if selected, but that deal expired on Monday, and all three actors can now accept other offers. As The Hollywood Reporter states: “the clock is ticking” for director Martin Campbell and producers Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

All three actors have had two rounds of screen tests, but – again, according to THR, the producers, director and studio had a different favorite among the three and as a result, not consensus has been reached.

The trade is also reporting that the studio is looking to get a handle on production costs for the film, which is expected to run between $150-$200 million.

The studio has set a December, 2010 opening for Green Lantern.

...Justin Timberlake? Really? And...I have to say, I usually like Ryan Reynolds...but I'd rather see him in his long-rumored Flash role. As for Bradley Cooper...eh...he'll do. But...Justin Timberlake? As a test pilot turned super-hero? I just don't see it... I just...don't see it.

He'd be better as the Flash.

Regardless, like any DC property that's not Batman or Superman, this film will be stuck in development hell and never get made, and Deadpool probably will because Marvel can actually get their shit together.

Not likely. Superman's in development hell (and has been since Superman Returns essentially bombed). Jonah Hex is well into development (shooting's...begun, if not completed), and with Green Lantern actually having a release date (something not even the Batman sequel that we ALL know is coming can lay claim to), it's definitely in the works. Plus, the script's been done for a while (written by Marc Guggenheim. Something I'm not excited about). Wonder Woman never even made it past the script stage. Same with Flash. And Justice League just got too ambitious for its own good (and, really, was just DC's attempt to swoop in before Avengers got released). No others really made it beyond the concept stage. Green Lantern's happening. Mark my words.

Justin Timberlake? Seriously?! No. Freakin'. Way. If he gets it (which looks highly unlikely) I will most certainly skip this one.

Like Chocolate Bones said, it was confirmed within 24 hours that Reynolds got the role.

So not fair. :bawling:

DC/Warner Bros. just need to get another good franchise going and they'll start plumbing the depths like Marvel has. With any luck, Green Lantern will fill that role.

Well, so long as this guy can pull of being Hal Jordon, I'll be content. DC needs to get some good superhero movies out soon. GL had better be a good superhero movie.

I always pictured Samuel L Jackson playing the green lanturn

My guess is that this'll be about the other one

Like they're going to have John Stewart as the green lantern in the first GL movie.

There are five different Green Lanterns from Earth alone.

Alan Scott was the first, and he was a pulpish, magical devil-may-cry adventurer.

Hal Jordan was the first to focus on outer-space, and he was your basic clean-cut, whitebread, lawful good, military man.

Guy Gardener was a racist, homophobic, misogynistic macho asshole used mostly for comedy. Archie Bunker with superpowers.

John Stewart is the one from the animated series, because they needed a black guy. In the animated series, he's a macho soldier who is too uncreative to US his ring as anything other than a shield and laser. In the comics, he's more of a meticulous inventor, engineer, and architect who uses his ring to build complex machinery.

Kyle Rayner was a creative comic artist who had a sense of humor but also emotional problems - he'd be the best choice for Reynolds, not Hal. He's the most powerful since he's very creative, but can't control his powers well because he's so emotional.

I never saw the appeal of Hal Jordan OR Barry Allen (the original flash). They're both flat and bland characters. "Heroic middle-class handsome square-jawed white guys" is all you need to know about either character.

As much as Reynolds was the best choice, and I'm glad to see him get the role, I think Timberlake would have been fine as Green Lantern.

Justin Timberlake has shown he is a capable actor. He was great in both Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan, and was the only good thing to come out of Southland Tales and Edison. I wish he'd get a chance to display his acting ability in a lead role, and one of the many comic-book adaptations in/soon-to-be in production would be perfect for just that.

Technically, Jade was a Green Lantern as well, though never THE Green Lantern (and now she's a Black Lantern).

And the appeal with Jordan and Allen is that they were ordinary people who found themselves imbued with extraordinary abilities, but managed to cope because they were already fairly disciplined. But both went through some tough times (mainly in the 70s, with Jordan being forced to confront a number of things that led him to renounce the ring. He and Green Arrow, teamed up, was just awesome), were killed, and got resurrected through fun little means. And while I always preferred Rayner (mostly because he got the ring right after I got into comics), Jordan was always second.

He may be able to act (haven't seen it myself, but I've never actually seen a movie with him in it, so I'll take your word for it), but aside from Speedball, I can't think of anyone he'd be interesting as. Of course, I thought the same thing about Nic Cage.

Truth be told, if Ryan Reynolds ended up as The GL, I wouldn't mind.

Yes, he happens to make more sense as The Flash, considering most of his characters are those witty, snappy, quick-quipped characters with the cool attitude and slightly quirky behavior. However, if they're serious about considering Adam Brody for the role, I have no problem with that. Fans tend to bitch and moan at the idea of the former OC star stepping in as the "Fastest Man Alive", but anybody whose actually watched his character in the OC knows that he basically WAS the latest adaption of Wally West. Talkative, witty, clever, and a bit of a smart ass. He ad-libbed a lot and seemed to flow through scenes, something that I can see The Flash doing.

So with him in line to accept the role (rumored at least), then I'm fine with Reynolds accepting the GL role.

Also, cut Timberlake some slack. Everyone's so quick to view him as campy due to his career and all, but he was great in Alpha Dog, and as said above, one of the only positive things to be said of Southland Tales.
