I have no proof of this really, except the fact that we can all assume that Paul is based on your rival from the GS era, who showed that he changed as a trainer by having a Crobat (happiness evolution). So that got me thinking, would they do that same for Paul? I think there is a pretty good chance of the writers doing something like that, for I don't see Paul changing because some people tell him that it's wrong (even if the person speaking is the champion), Paul is just too stubborn.
Yet if they give him a pokemon which evolves into a strong poke by happiness, maybe he would be driven to train it, despite the fact that he gave up on Chimchar, who has a lot of potential...he could be inspired by Riley to train one (possibly he would get the egg from him).
In a nutshell: We know Paul is going to change one day, but do you think it'll be done with the aid of a happiness evolution? Or is Paul just to stubborn to train a pokemon from a baby stage?
