I have no proof of this really, except the fact that we can all assume that Paul is based on your rival from the GS era, who showed that he changed as a trainer by having a Crobat (happiness evolution). So that got me thinking, would they do that same for Paul? I think there is a pretty good chance of the writers doing something like that, for I don't see Paul changing because some people tell him that it's wrong (even if the person speaking is the champion), Paul is just too stubborn.

Yet if they give him a pokemon which evolves into a strong poke by happiness, maybe he would be driven to train it, despite the fact that he gave up on Chimchar, who has a lot of potential...he could be inspired by Riley to train one (possibly he would get the egg from him).

In a nutshell: We know Paul is going to change one day, but do you think it'll be done with the aid of a happiness evolution? Or is Paul just to stubborn to train a pokemon from a baby stage?

Discuss.

Please close this thread. I really don't want to see another big ol' debate over who gets that thing again.

I hardly thin kyou not wanting to see another thread discussing Riolu as a valid reason for closing down what could be a very fruitful and interesting discussion.

I personally feel that Paul is not based on silver/kamen whatever.

While he has similar personality traits, he's very differently presented.

I think electabuzz could be the key to Pauls "Epiphany".

Ash envy much?

I don't think a happiness evolution on its own would prove anything.

Shinji would be more than happy to train a Pokemon and keep it happy...if it was extremely strong and had great potential.

What would show him coming around is him taking a relatively average/weak Pokemon, and training it up on his own.

Yeesh, Well i don't really mind ppl talking about who'll get Riolu. I used to like reading threads on it before but after a while everywhere you went it was all about Riolu capture specculation.

But I do agree with you about Electabuzz being the one tomake Paul see the light though.

I wanted Brock or Jessie to catch one. It does have potential to join the main cast though, especially after the ranger special. As for Paul, I'd love to see him w/ a member of the Hoppip line XD

Well, im glad you've given your permission XD

Im kidding, im not being bitchy BTW.

I can understand you not want a swamp of "So i heir brock/misty/may/ash/paul/mewtwo/ash's mom is going to get a Riolu" threads, but this one has brought up an interesting point about the possibility of friendship based evolution.

What i'd really like to see, is a pokémon that would APPEAR weak/small etc showing Paul some increadible power, in a similar fashion to Ash's cyndaquil/Misty's Psyduck.

Or Paul seeing potential in a Pokémon, and actually working hard to help it achieve it.

I stand by my conviction that Paul's Electabuzz will be the one. Electabuzz is loyal, like a 2nd mate to a captain. Like an old friend. And thats why i think that a story arc which sees Ash protecting one of his pokemon/electabuzz will have an effect on him so strong, he may begin to question Pauls ways and try and help him see the errors therein (as he's one of the Pokémon most likely to get through Pauls thick head).

Well, Chimchar was showed a lot of power, but when Paul couldn't get it out again, eh totally just was like "Later, loser! I'm outtie 5000!" If another tiny Pokemon showed him power, but he'd actually have to train it, I think they'd just make him drop it.

Anyway, I like Paul now. It woudl be such a waste to ruin him with a personality changing Pokemon. Of course, they will anyway...

And It's Misty's mom who's gonna get a Riolu, duh! And Missingno.:p
