Rival colors. Green, Purple & Orange?

Does anyone else notice that every main rival has something either orange, green, or purple?

Gary - Purple shirt
Paul - Purple hair
Barry - Green Scarf, Orange shirt
Trip - Orange jacket
Bianca - Green hat, Orange vest
Nando - Green hat, and cape
Conway - Green shirt
Drew - Green hair, Purple shirt
Harley - Green hat, shirt, and pants, Purple hair
Solidad - Orange shirt
Ursula - Purple ribbons
Zoey - Orange vest
Kenny- Green shirt
Jessie (as Jessilina) - orange dress
Langley - Green vest, and shirt
Burgundy - Purple hair

Does anybody else wonder why?
 
Seems like they really like using secondary colors for rivals, which is pretty interesting. Ash (and Misty) usually has primary colors in his clothing, but Brock had orange and green in his clothes as well.
 
Huh. That is an interesting thing to notice.

Thematically, the secondary colors probably mean that they revolve around the primary characters.

As for Brock, that's just his color scheme from the Original Series trying to be carried forward.
 
CAUSE THAT's HALF the colors of the rainbow(I don't count indigo for obvious reasons but feel free to ask)

Lets see what happens when you take the other half
Gary had a blue shirt earlier and blue pants
Paul - blue coat
Barry - yellow hair
Trip - got me there but bulbapedia says his hair is dirty blond when it looks a little light green to me
Bianca - blond
Nando - blue neck ribbon thingy whatever object, gold(close to yellow) harp, blue eyes
Conway - blue pants
Drew - blue pants
Harley - Guess you got me there but there is a ...red may outfit with blue eer shorts
Solidad - long pink hair which is a shade of red
Ursula - blue skirt redish hair blue GF outfit
Zoey - red hair blue pants
Kenny- got me there again
Jessie - used to have red hair plus red R
Langley - red hair blue eye her shirt is more of a aqua Yellow hat AND yellow gloves
Burgundy - red vest

It's an anime it's suppose to be colorful it's more leaning toward the secondary side but still I don't think it's a big deal.

Ah, so there is a formula to this!

Kenny has a green shirt, and appeared in the anime
Kenny is a rival

Therefore, because N has green hair, he'll appear in the anime as a rival.
But Ghetsis also has green hair!

Thus we can determine from this formula that Ghetsis will appear in the anime and be Ash's rival. He'll still be N's dad, but Ghetsis will probably be aged down to about 10 or so.
