Yes, I'm wondering about this pairnig, and if anyone besides me is aware of it. I write fanfictions dealing with the pairing of Ash with Gary's sister May, and was wondering if it had a specific name, and if there were any other fans of this specific couple. XD Since it's kinda saddening only finding people that think AshxMay means AdvancedShipping and don't know there is another character that I could be referring to. x.x;

Check the (In)Complete list thread to see if your ship has a name and, if not, then feel free to submit one. Maybe RivalSiblingShipping?

:eek: ah, alright, thanks. >_> Hmm, RivalSiblingShipping.....I like that! :D

Though I still wanna see if there are any other loonies like me that like it. XD haha

I've read Ono's manga and I like the idea of the shipping, but I'd have to admit I'm more fond of Pokéshipping. I like the idea of exploring the origins of Ash and Gary's rivalry, and I've pondered if May fits in there somehow. Not in the sense of a romantic triangle, but rather Ash trying to impress May and being beaten (repeatedly ?) by Gary, as they try to prove who's worthy of being a trainer.

Hmm, that I had considered myself. I used to like PokeShipping myself, though I came to like this.....RivalSiblingShipping.....more when I started writing fanfiction and all that. o.0 They both have their ups and downs, though one have more proof overall then the other.

I have to wonder, if it was possible that they had feeling for each other, whether Gary's constant battle to be better not only have to do with wanting to beat his rival trainer, but to try to sway his sister away from her own feeling...a sort of 'Hey, look, that guy you like can't beat me! He's weak! Not so good now, is he?!'.

I think so, at least in the manga. Gary seems genuinely upset at Ash's attraction to May, and I think she was slightly flattered by Ash's attention.

It did seem like it, at least in the few mentions of her that were in the volumes I had for Pokemon. Most of them made it appear she was all too happy to be around Ash, and once even had it were she said something about having him as her brother 'for now on', as if Gary should just go away.. XD something like that, I haven't read them in a long time.

I really wonder why she isn't in the anime though. It would make the rivalry between Gary and Ash a little less...how could it be put.....unfounded? While it is obvious that two trainers are rivals, the fact they are at each other's throats, which I'm hesitent to say it appears they almost despise each other, is...well, a little much.

It seems a little overkill for just the clean cut 'fight to be better then the other', like there is something missing that would cause them to fight. Hell, look at Richie. Him and Ash are rival trainers, and yet they got along great....then again, Ash gets along with just about anyone as long as they don't try to steal his pokemon or make themselves into the villians, and even then he tends to be pretty good natured with them overall. I can't think of all that many exceptions where Ash didn't get along with them to some degree, except for Gary.
