And From News Of The Weird...
In November, a 77-year-old man in Jacksonville, Fla., intending to help his daughter by riding his bicycle to Long Branch Elementary School to pick up her 4-year-old son (his grandson), arrived back home with a kid on the bike but did not realize that he had picked up the wrong boy. Said the picked-up kid's frantic mother, "(The two boys) don't even look alike."

Now that's something everybody can enjoy

Yikes! The China Daily newspaper reported in November that local markets and beauty salons in Guangdong province were selling low-priced hair bands made from used condoms. [Agence France-Presse, 11-12-07]

I'd be more worried about THAT story, personally.

Remind me to bring my own hair bands when traveling in China.

How do you collect used condoms to recycle anyways?

. . . are you 80?

No, but I recently lost a grandfather who suffered from severe senility. So excuse me if I'm a little intolerant of idiots ridiculing the elderly. >_>

Well, I don't think that definition entails the wearing of it as a hat.

And in Asia, "beauty salons" and "massage parlors" are usually codeword for "brothels".

No different from SF, where it ISN'T legal.
Not that I know that based on experience. A person I know who's been around longer than me told me that.

It's much easier to operate them where it IS legal, however.

Hence, the owners in question probably had no worries about selling used condoms as hairbands. Given they likely bought the condoms themselves anyway, maybe something in their minds saw it as an easy way to recoup the costs of purchasing them/running the business. Truly green, when you think about it. Not that selling used condoms as hairbands is a GOOD idea, but it IS recycling...

That is, assuming these "beauty parlors" were brothels. And if they weren't, I'm REALLY freaked out.
(Ah, the discussions we have on Bulbagarden...)

They might have good intentions, but you're right. They're recycling, yes, but this is probably not exactly what the global warming activists had in mind...

I would be too.

Man o_O you are a radical, aren't you? Yeah the lead is bad. Little kids lick those toys and get lead in them. But just because the Chinese government is bad remember the civillians don't really have a say in it. I know you mean the government, but be careful how you word it because saying you hate China might offend people. Not that you don't have the right to offend people but I know that wasn't your intention.

Well, that one celebrity (Sheryl Crow?) said to only use one square of toilet paper...

Hey, to each their own, but the condom thing is just plain crazy.
