Here's a team that I put together today on showdown to get back into the game. It's probably still rough, but it's worked a couple of times, and the one loss it's incurred was a crazy-intense game.
Gerdzirraw (Tentacruel) (M) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 28 SpD / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Acid Spray
- Toxic Spikes
Not a whole lot here than what meets the eye. Scald and Acid Spray are helpful in dealing with M-Sableye, i've found. Black sludge provides enough residual to keep Tentacruel from dying too quickly, and the remaining two moves are to aid in it's primary role as spinner/hazards. Like most of these, its a standard smogon set.
Xena (Beedrill) (F) @ Beedrillite
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 Atk / 80 Def / 176 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- U-turn
- Poison Jab
- Knock Off
So, one of the first things I heard about when I got back was the absurdity that is Mega Beedrill. All of a sudden, a rather meh 'mon turns into an OP death cannon. Naturally, I wanted to use it! Again, fairly standard Smogon set, but it's pretty fun to use. Unfortunately, the mega form didn't give it any real defensive favors, but whatevs. Usually, I U-turn out of something threatening into either Goodra or Tentacruel, those two being the more defensive members.
Clark (Nidoking) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 160 Atk / 172 SpA / 132 Spe
Naive Nature
- Sludge Wave
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Sucker Punch
This is my wild card 'mon. Nidoking's my favorite pokemon, and he's got some decent tools up his movepool sleeves. The EV's are meant to help him be more of a balanced cleanup. He's not too fast, but threatening pokes typically get a Sucker Punch to the face, literally. I would like to keep Nidoking, and I'm so far liking his moveset, but I would definitely appreciate EV suggestions. It also helps that most people aren't used to seeing Nidoking in OU, much less with a mixed attacking set.
Flubber (Goodra) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpA / 16 Spe
Modest Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt
- Sludge Bomb
So, again, I just got back into the comp scene, from being on a 2-year hiatus from video games in general (see my re-introduction post in the welcome forum), so I'm still not anywhere sure what this guy even is. I am sure, however, that he takes Special Attacks like a boss, especially with Assault vest. Sap Sipper + Earthquake means that anything brave enough to fire off a grass move get's another think coming via EQ or Fire Blast. Unfortunately, Fire Blast has become more of Fire Miss for me, so I'm considering running Flamethrower instead.
The Dame (Darmanitan) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Rock Slide
- U-turn
- Zen Headbutt
...I'd like to have something to say about Darmy here, but he hasn't actually done much. I usually really enjoy using Darmanitan, because who doesn't enjoy nearly 400 base attack firing off LO+Sheer Force attacks. This is a smogon set, not actually my normal moveset, but I still enjoy the concept...
Brochacho (Azumarill) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off
Another pokemon that just makes me giggle. Gen VI did Azumarill some serious favors, I gotta say. Nothing really wants to take the water rabbit's attacks head-on, due to the ridiculous power boost of Huge Power. Can I just also say that Knock Off is amazing now? BP boost, plus the boost from actually knocking off someone's item. Merciful Heavens, I love playing this 'mon. Fairy type makes it a good switch from Goodra, and it really doesn't mind EQ or Earth Power as much as most of my team.
---
Anyways, thoughts? Like I said, Nidoking's staying, and I'm keeping sucker punch no matter what, but the rest of the team members are flexible, and I would appreciate move/EV suggestions for even Nidoking.
For further thought-food, here are the battles this team has been used in. The first two are victories, and the third was a close game, but a loss nonetheless.
