It was a hard time for everyone involved, but it was agreed by everyone that Team Aqua's time had ended. The agents disbanded, all but Shelly, who refused to leave his side.
Archie had to admit, Shelly was nice to have around. She was loyal and trustworthy, something he needed more than anything. But she obviously wanted something more. He could tell by the way she looked at him, her body language around him. He wanted to give her what she wanted, for her sake, but he held back.
"Sir," she addressed him one day, "I want you to tell me the truth."
He looked up from the book he was reading, confused. "The truth?"
With a sigh, she sat next to him. "You know I love you. I know you do. But you're always so distant. Is something wrong?"
He would have to be honest with her, at least as much as he thought she could understand. Her loyalty wouldn't forgive the complete truth. "Honestly, Shelly...there's someone else."
"Someone else?" Her hand flew to her mouth. "Sir, I'm so sorry! I wouldn't have come on so strongly if I'd known...who is she?"
"Just someone from college. I guess it's stupid." And it was, in his mind. It was stupid and clingy and wrong, but it didn't matter. "I saw...her...a few weeks ago, right when the Team was ending. I guess I don't want to give her up because of that."
Shelly rested a hand on his shoulder. "Sir..."
"You don't have to call me that any more, Shelly."
She corrected herself. "Archie...I'm sorry. What's she like?"
"I don't want to talk about this," he muttered, standing and walking to the window, his book still in his hand. What would Shelly, his most trusted officer, do if she knew he was in love with Aqua's enemy?
