July 14 - New Alcatraz
8:07 A.M. U.S. Eastern Standard Time
New York, New York

The corpse of Troy Scott Foster lay still in his cell, seemingly out of place in the Super-Prison surrounded by dangerous, powerful Supervillains. The blank, empty, stone-walled room completely still except for the reflection of two men's faces on the thick glass window on the north side of the cell.

Standing outside Prowler's cell, looking in, were two of the facility's many guards. Under the direction of Detective Fate, Prowler's cell had been given special attention, the new, specialized security measures being a running joke amongst the other inmates - they were, as far as anyone could tell, essentially guarding a corpse.

"Another exciting day," one of the men said with a sigh, shifting slightly in his red-and-black body-armor, turning his weapon in his hand to examine it idly.

His partner's eyes narrowed as he examined Troy through the window, "It's true what they say," he replied at length, sighing in boredom, "Your mind plays tricks on you... If you watch a dead body long enough, you start to think you're seeing 'em breathing."

"I know... I was just thinkin' the same thing. I'm not up for goin' in there and checking again, though."

July 14 - New Alcatraz Entrance
8:07 A.M. U.S. Eastern Standard Time
New York, New York

Meanwhile, Jett Animus, also known as Magnumind, was attempting to gain access to New Alcatraz. He had heard about the incident with Troy Foster, and, call in intuition, but Jett had the feeling that Troy was not down for the count. Jett walked through the colossal gate.

This place sure fit the criteria for a super-prison. Gigantic, ominous gate? Check. Dark stone walls? Check. The feeling that, at any moment, someone could shoot you? Check. Hopefully that wouldn't happen. Jett managed to locate one of the staff members, positioned at the entrance. Probably a security guard, judging by that rifle he was holding. "Um, excuse me, could I speak with you for just a moment? I need to find someone who's in charge of this place. A warden or something along those lines."

OOC: You mind playing the part of the staff members?

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

OOC: Sure

"Certainly," the guard replied, leading the Hero inside to the on-duty Warden.

"What can I do for you?" the Warden inquired, stepping toward Magnumind, clad in the standard-issue body-armor of the Superprison.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

"Jett Animus, certified...well, I suppose you could call me a superhero," he introduced. "I got word of the incident with Troy Foster. Luckily, I was on a vacation in Seattle, so I didn't get caught up in that. But that's another story entirely. I'm starting to ramble, aren't I?"

He took a moment to collect his thoughts, before continuing.

"Anyways, I can't help but be concerned about Troy's current state. I mean, the guy's supposedly revived himself before. But I have a little trick of mine, to make sure if he's actually dead. With your permission, sir, I'd like to enter Troy's cell in order to test this."

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

The Warden eyed Jett uncomfortably, "Well... I don't see how you could do any more to determine that than our medical staff... I suppose I can allow it, however. Per our policies, you will need to be accompanied by two guards in order to enter the cell. This way, please," with that, the Warden led Jett to Troy's cell, continuing, "We have kept him under close surveillance, per Detective Fate's advisories - he is never removed from his cell, and no one is ever permitted to enter unaccompanied. If he is alive, he'll have a heck of a time trying to get out again."

"However, in all honesty, we really do need him to wake up," the Warden said uncomfortably, "The Ethics Committee is already beating down our door about this - we had to declare him 'alive' in order to detain him here, but since every diagnosis has been to the contrary, they'll be demanding a proper burial soon. I'm sure they would have already, but he apparently has no surviving family. On the other hand, if he is alive, they'll demand we remove him for a proper trial by jury... no matter what, we're screwed, really."

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

"The guy's using the law system to his advantage. And, really, it wouldn't be a good idea to go against it," Jett noted, looking over the supposed corpse. "Alright, now I'm going to use my powers to see if he's alive. This'll send a surge of pain through the body. It doesn't do any actual damage, it just talks to the nerves," Jett explained. "If he's alive, we should at the very least see some writhing.

Then, with his hands glowing a faint purple color, Jett shot out a projectile directly at Troy. Hopefully, this would finally determine whether or not he was alive. He knew that it was easier to play dead than it was to escape in front of a crowd. So this would, at the very least, give them something to expect.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

There was no visible response, as Troy was indeed legitimately dead - his mind, however, was not, and retaliated rather hatefully - though whether or not Jett could detect it was yet to be seen.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

Jett scowled. That had always worked. However, upon closer inspection, Jett had noted that Troy's expression had momentarily shifted into that of what appeared to be irritation. If he couldn't get Troy's nerves to talk, then maybe his psyche needed a bit of convincing.

"Alright, I'm gonna try something different," Jett said to the warden. "This one...well, if it works, well send him into a fury, intense enough that it will presumably wake him out of whatever sleep I'm guessing he's in."

"Now, aside from being really ticked, I dunno what kind of a reaction we're going to get. And, given this guy's track record, it may be a good idea to stand back." With that, he fired another projectile from his hands, this one glowing a dark red color.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

Given Prowler's state of perpetual violence, not to mention mild psychosis, the rage-inducing assault had little mental impact on Troy - however, sensing the intrusion for a second time, the now only mentally alive Prowler responded shrewdly in his head - hoping, if only for the fun of it, that the psychological-Hero could hear him, "That, my friend, was rather rude. What reaction precisely were you hoping for? According to the psychiatrists, I'm already mindlessly violent, after all."

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

Jett didn't hear Prowler's response, as he could only mind-read if he was specifically trying to do so. And, at that moment, he wasn't. But he had to do something. Time for desperate measures. "Okay, last try. I don't like doing this, and it's a bit unpleasant at times, but we have to try," he said. "I'm going to go brain-spelunking. In other words, delving right into his mind and hopefully having a conversation with the guy. I'm probably going to end up collapsing, followed by occasional muttering and maybe a couple of violent twitches, but don't panic, I'll wake up in a bit. I hope. Wish me luck."

Jett walked over to the supposed corpse of Troy Foster, placing both of his hands over the criminal's temples. He began glowing with a white aura, before having what appeared to be spasms, and falling onto the ground, seemingly unconscious. He then awoke, in what appeared to be an empty void, but figures began forming from the shadows, forming the landscape of Troy's mind.

OOC: Feel free to describe Troy's mindscape.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

As the mindscape came into focus, the setting materialized in the form of the very same Black Panther enclosure in which Troy had committed suicide years ago, bright moonlight illuminating the tropical trees and shallow grass of the enclosure, enveloping it in a dim, blue ambient light as crickets chirped throughout. The moonlight was reflected, rather brighter than usual, in a shallow pool nearby, illuminating the face of Troy, who sat, cross-legged, at the water's edge; a blank, quiet, contemplative look on his face.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

Jett, after figuring out his environment, walked over to Troy. His arms were crossed and he was wearing a hard expression. "So, you are alive," he remarked. "Endurance is apparently one of your strong suits. Any normal man would've died multiple times if he went through everything you did." He was on guard. Troy could retaliate at any moment, and battling someone within their own mind was generally not a good idea.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

This Troy was markedly different from his waking self, his cold, unremorseful demeanor strikingly absent. He looked up to face Jett, a bemused look on his face, "You're wrong, unequivocally so. I am very much dead." He then returned to contemplating his surroundings.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

"That can't be," Jett countered. "If you were dead, I would be staring into a black void at this point, and we wouldn't be having this conversation. Trust me, I know how the brain works, and by the looks of it, it's still working just fine. So, no, you're not dead."

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

Troy heaved a deep sigh, his metaphor having been wasted, as he rose to his feet, "I'm as dead inside as you are. As all this world is."

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

Jett skeptically raised an eyebrow. Troy was definitely a far cry from other killers he had apprehended. "Elaborate, if you would." He noticed the fairly pristine surroundings of Troy's mindscape. He expected something more bleak or infernal from this guy, but this place was actually quite nice.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Troy remarked, noting Jett's interest in his surroundings. "At first glance, most things in this world are. Did you ever notice that? Because, believe it or not, I did. This world is truly beautiful. But there's more to it than meets the eye." Troy's eyes now flitted from side to side, glancing up into the bows of the trees above the two of them, "There's something sinister lurking inside of it. Perfectly natural, but dangerous nonetheless."

"We're predators, my friend. All of us. We're usually calm and civil... every bit as likable as the next guy. Until we need something... and then we'll do whatever it takes to get it. Most predators don't kill for fun, despite all the fear they invoke - they don't kill for sport or for the thrill of the hunt, they kill to survive."

Troy now approached one of the trees, grasping a small, wiry limb between his fingers, "But every once in a while, one of them will snap," as he said this, the limb shattered in his hands, sending bits of bark and split wood to the ground, "It's impossible to tell which one it will be."

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

Jett was on guard. He sensed tension in the air. "I'm afraid I don't agree, Mr. Foster," he said. "For every ill-intentioned individual out there, there's around twenty people who fight in order to preserve order, civility, and peace. In other words, the bad guys are not in the majority. On top of that...wait, why am I even trying to convince you of anything?" he stopped himself from going into the whole speech. "I've taken notice of you, Troy. And not in the good way. I care about the harm you've been causing, and no matter what reasoning you try to throw at me, I'm going to stop you."

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

"Oh, I'm counting on it..." Troy replied with a sincere smile. Rustling could now be heard in the leaves of the trees above, the luminescent eyes of a Panther glinting momentarily in the moonlight.

Re: ROGUES GALLERY: Welcome to the Jungle (Oblivion & Master Mew)

"Y'know what?" Jett said exasperatedly. "I'm out of here. I've figured out that you have a tendency to pull out Xanatos Gambits like it's no one's business, so making you wake up wouldn't do much. But my previous point will still stand. No matter what you do, I will bring down justice. Count on it."

Then, Jett released his presence from Troy's mind, the surroundings fading back to black. Back in the real world, Jett started flailing around momentarily, before standing rigid. He then slumped to his knees, breathing heavy and clutching his chest as if he had been slugged in the gut. "He's...awake..." he said, hard to speak. "But...I don't think...it matters...at this point..."
