Let's talk about this interesting little guy.

He has the legendary battle music, a guide book called him a legendary, but all other instances point to him not being a legendary. I'm thinking maybe the legendary lake trio used to be a legendary lake quartet, or something. Rotom was the fourth, for the Sendoff Spring, maybe. His article does say he's the same height and weight as the legendary lake trio...

Hmm, you do have a point there. It is possible that Rotom was originally intended to be a legendary, though we don't really have any evidence to back that up, other than the legendary battle BGM. I myself first thought that it was a legendary, before I was educated of the facts.

Although, I am kinda glad it's not a legendary too. Why, you ask? Well, it's because I have this thing about using legendaries in battle. I feel that it would only be right if my opponent also had a legendary in his team. Rotom is fun to use, and I can use it all I want without worrying about my principles in battling, since I know it's not legendary anyway.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think they just used the legendary battle BGM with it because it matches the mood. After all, you're in an abandoned manor rumored to be haunted. You can only encounter it at night, on a TV that works when all other electrical appliances don't. It pops out and attacks you when you thump the TV. The BGM screams of suspense, so I think it does fit Rotom perfectly. I even felt some sort of fear when I first battled it...

I always throught it was ledgend until i read that you can breed it with ditto (works) you can't with other ledgends. Especially i read it has below-ledgend stats :O but it's awesome movewise

Not really. Both Manaphy and Phione can breed with Ditto as well, though the offspring's always a Phione...

If you've seen the pokemon movie pokemon ranger: manaphy or whatever it called manaphy is the 'prince' of the sea and the lineup is:

King---Queen
|||| |||||
||||||||||||
Prince'manaphy'---Princess
||||||||||||||| ||||||\
||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Joker'phione'

But rotom isn't in a thing like that so it is different to manaphy also because you cant:

A. capture phione as event only breeding

B. Rotom isn't a event pokemon

I always thought of Rotom as the "fool's gold" of Legendaries. They simply play Legendary music to trick you into thinking it's a Legendary.

I'm sure Rotom isn;t a Legendary, I think I heard somewhere that you could find more if you went back to the TV in the Old Chatieu at the right time after you caught it.

You can't. Although you can reproduce him with ditto

I must say, the way they interpreted his design in Battle Revolution looks really good... I've considered using him on occasion, but I've never really bothered to look into him further than that.

I stand with Rotom being a non-legendary, but it's still a reasonable position to believe otherwise. It makes no difference to me, as I don't care about people using legendaries in battle as long as they're using, say, Raikou, and not Latios.

unfortunately not simultaneously though, however if that was the case he would be incredibly broken

Pokemon is broken. Umbreon with bright powder. Toxic. Uses double team 6 times. Immune to beibg hit. Uses faint attack until you fall. Repeat.

HaxBreon wins.

See?

What if it is KO'd before it gets the chance to use all those attacks?

Machamp with No Guard ability. Close Combat.

Haxbreon gets sent to ICU.

Everything can be countered by something else... at least in Pokemon.

i've always thought rotom was a legendary, but more like the baby of them all. it's pretty obvious that he's not a full-fledged legendary, especially since he falls in the UU tier (at least, he did the last time i checked he did). but the legendary music plays when you battle him, which is enough for me to believe he is one.

i suppose sakuyamonX has a good idea about him, though. the fool's gold of legendaries.

I don't think the Legendary Music playing is any evidence of Rotom being a legendary.

It's like how regular Wild Pokemon Music plays for Cresselia and Shaymin, that doesn't make them normal Pokemon does it?

@ Valentine:

Actually, Rotom falls in the UU tier on Smogon, but all of his 5 formes fall in the OU tier.

hmm, i had figured something had changed. thank you for letting me know! c:

SakuyamonX: i didn't know regular wild pokemon music played for shaymin, since i've never gotten the event. but i guess you're right; maybe rotom really isn't a legendary after all.

Nintendo officially recognizes that Rotom is not a legendary.
