I'd like it if everyone treated everybody else with respect, even if you disagree with them.

If there are serious violations of this, people are going to get banned outright. I don't like doing that but I don't see too many other choices, it's gotten quite nasty over the last few weeks. So play nice.

I have to agree, after seeing what happened on the "Random Messages" forum.

Sadly to say, I was in it too, and I'm sorry Burning Bush.

Well...with all the technology nowadays....there's a lot of things that can influence people....

Yes. This really shouldn't be too hard to follow. This shouldn't even have to be stated as a rule, honestly...

Sad we have to come out and say "don't be an asshole". Should be apparent anyway.

Well... "Asshole" isn't a good description... I mean how far can someone make a sarcastic or snide remark before it becomes hazing? What can a person say when they disagree with a person before it becomes name-calling?

I assume the main goal is keep personal issues off the forum, but "play nice" is a bad description.

No, I'm pretty sure that the main goal is to prevent people from being... well, assholes.

Yami Takashi was a moron, but he was a one-in-a-million case. No good user deserves that kind of treatment, although I've seen many receive it.

Dare I hope that the same "leave your sensibility at the door" policy apply to the Soap Box as ever?

Well, I daresay a controversial topics debating forum should be the one place, if any, where you can express how strong your personal feelings are on a matter.

There's a huge difference between stating strong opinions and being a prick. I hope people that debate in our forums can tell the difference.

^^ What he said. I believe that you can still hold an opinion, and debate that opinion, without resorting to attacking other users who do not hold the same opinion as you. The moment someone starts treating someone else in a thread like shit (i.e. resorting to trolling them), even in the soapbox, that can kill a thread or derail it rather quickly.

That's what I mean. Sometimes people state their opinions very forcefully, and there are some who assume that the way the disagree is a personal attack on them. Yes, there is a huge difference, but it's not just the speaker who needs to remember that.

The HoS pretty much is a free-for-all as it is, I wouldn't see any reason that this would change.

But it still means we can troll people there? Just not a lot?

Just use your head. If you wouldn't say it to your mom in an especially heated fight, it's not appropriate. I don't mean to be blunt about this but I don't see what about this policy is so hard to understand. Just be nice to one another.
