Smash Bros. DS? Smash Bros. Next-Gen? Smash Bros. Wii 2?

I don't see Layton being in Smash Bros., though. Perhaps they're using his riddle-based character to hint at characters without actually including Layton in the end.

Also, while a logical time to reveal a new Smash game would be 2010 or 2011, they may be trying for the next console launch this time. Or, perhaps, like I said, it may just be a DS game.

Professor Layton's Final Smash would be a puzzle that if the opponent fails to solve, it violently turns off and ejects the game.

They really should give the DS a SSB game. Surprised they didn't at least port the 64 game (coming to VC now so I guess that explains it). Alternatively, they could probably work a great sprite based SSB game and put in on the DS.

Wasn't Nintendo involved with the Jump Stars series?

Hmm, I know Smash Bros well. And this sounds very... fishy. Geno and Mega Man were practically worshipped on Brawl forums. Everyone wanted them. I saw several movesets created for them. Nothing came of either idea. Why would Nintendo, so soon after Brawl's release and with Masahrio Sakurai's refusal to work with SSB again (I haven't done this in a while. Nostalgia moment), plan to release another. Of course I'm not saying no to a DS idea. I believe I was one of the earliest supporters of the idea two years ago. However, the information that has been released just sounds... odd. And not how Nintendo usually does things. Plus, Grand Smash? Doesn't seem to fit the pattern for names (I'm for Super Smash Bros. Showdown) that has already been established.

Smash is a big thing with nintendo. It's how some of its biggest stars gather together for the matches of the century. This subtle way of announcing a new title, without any details, through a method many wouldn't even think of, just seems out of character. I'll keep an eye on the dojo until this is confirmed or denied, but I doubt we'll see anything come of this.

Ryuutakeshi, Champion of the Elite Four and User of the Holy Marth, signing off.

I haven't said that in a long time.

EDIT: OH AND BEFORE ANYONE SAYS IT, SAKURAI ALREADY CONFIRMED NO DLC FOR BRAWL, SO NOBODY MENTION THAT.

This is the biggest load of crap I've ever seen.

On a personal standpoint, I don't necessarily believe it, but I'm always up for a discussion on rumours.

The Twitter account DID mention people reading into things a little too much, so it's probably just Nintendo enjoying a good laugh.

Yay, let's casualize and ruin the franchise with a one-two punch!

I'm not repulsed by the idea of a sequel. There were a lot of things pulled at the last minute from brawl making it a slight disappointment in living up to its hype. I'm all for a quick sequel if it adds back all old characters and gives us a few new ones.

I am still hoping they put out more villains though, and give an option to turn off tripping. I'd also especially like to see more pokeball and assist capsules this time, as with more trophies. More robust level editor would be nice too. (Nintendo could be a jerk and sell an advanced level editor for 1000points on DSi and WW, and make a killing if they choose to) If they took out the Subspace Embassy this time, I wouldn't mind as well.

A rumor's a rumor though. I don't think IGN would lie, and Nintendo never really beats around the bush, so it may be an obvious smash reference that may even be called "Grand Smash Brothers Brawl" or something. I guess we can just wait till fall conference and find out...

I think that while Little Mac would be an awesome character, Bomberman would be a much cooler third-party playable charcter. Excitebiker would be a cool character too.

Mega Man? Geno? Boooooring.

Is there any way of knowing this Layton Twitter page is actually run by Nintendo? There's another Layton page that has been posting since June 19th. The official Professor Layton website doesn't link to or mention either Twitter Page. So it is a pretty safe bet that there is no official Layton Twitter, and the ones we see are just pages set up by fans and or pranksters.
I have no clue why so many gaming sites are reporting this pretty obvious hoax.

On the chance they do make a sequel, I feel the need to show this.

This sounds about as plausible as the recent Play-Asia description of HGSS. It's probably just Nintendo having one of those 'easter egg' moments, like when you can distort Mario's face in Mario 64. It's all tounge-in-cheek. Unless something else comes in a few weeks, this is all probably just a little teasing from the Big N.

October Conference perhaps. I would love a DS outing you know.

I beileve that it is very unlikley the rumor is true, didn't Masahiro Sakurai once say he had no disire to make a sequal on the DS in an interview.

Actually I think it is plausible given Super Mario Galaxy 2. It probably won't be released till 2011 if it were true, and wouldn't be as big as Brawl's release, but Nintendo has shown that they are more about sure-fire hits this time around with another metroid game so soon after 3, Mario Galaxy, Golden Sun, and Zelda Wii.

Well....if they ever do release a 4th SSB.....they need Saki and Isaac as characters this time, not ATs.

I mean with Sin & Punishment 2 coming out, along with Golden Sun DS....but really, with SSBB barely a year old, it's too soon to announce a new SSB already. Seems somewhat too good to be true.....for now, hopefully.

Yes plz. Zero Suit Samus, while nice, felt like a cop-out in terms of a new Metroid character. Even Dark Samus or the SA-X as a clone of Samus would be welcome (considering how many of the clones came into their own in Brawl). But Ridley would be awesome.

I have to say, while I like the idea of a Smash Bros. DS (I was thinking they should make a Smash Bros. Advance back in the day), Smash Bros.'s control scheme is pretty dependent on the joystick. Have you tried playing with just the Wii remote? It's not unplayable, but it is a bit of a mess. Any DS based control scheme would be similar. Unless they incorporated the touch screen, which would be... awesome. But complicated.

But also awesome.

The only new characters I'd be personally excited about are Starfy, Little Mac, Ridley, and Ray from CustomRobo.

Note that in those shops, that's Ridley's original size from the first Metroid. He doesn't have to be ginormous.
