Does anyone have their own way to catch the roaming legands (mespirit and cresselia) without using the master ball?

My way involves a wobbuffet and some speed pokemon 40+. First, weaken legendary with speeder until in the reds.* Then use wobbuffet**, because its spell tag ability will prevent them to flee, then start tossing quick(beggining of battle)/dusk(if at night)/timer(if battle drags on)/ultra(if at daytime, battles seems to go to far in for quick balls to work well, and not long enough for timers) balls. Also you will need lots of hyper potions/full restores. Even a wobbuffet at lv. 30 or so will survive a few hits, but it won't hurt to heal if its HP hit the yellows. The marking ap. will be needed. Repels are optional, but you'll know you've run into one before you even see the pokemon.

Note: save after legend is weakened enough. When you use Wobbuffet to battle, the legendary may not be able to flee, but it could run out of PP and kill itself with the infamous struggle.
*Most likely this will take a few encounters and chases to accomplish do to them fleeing.
** Make sure Wobbuffet is up front when battling, if you switch him in, the legendary can still flee.

Basically a batonpass team which consists of:

1. A Meen Looker

2. False Swiper

3. Sleep Inducer

4. Somethingt that won't die

The last two can be paired up together as Blissey. Sure it doesn't have Batonpass, but after weakeneing the two of them to 1 HP, and being special attackers, there is relatively little threat for my fat pink egg.

Well flaming, there is one gaping hole. There is no way to get a Wobbuffet before getting the National Dex unless you trade with a friend's Diamond/Pearl.

SOmehting to note: Mesprit and cresselia always appear on the same blade of grass or patch of water on each route.

Like it really matters when you catch it. All you need is to see them, which you do before they run away.

Wooooobbuffet!

All the time. Mesprit, Latias, Latios, Cresselia. All of 'em fall to Wobby.

I wouldn't really know about R/S/E runaways because I used my master balls on them in those games (hey, I blame not being able to easily track Latias/latios, so the 1st encounter was the capture), but it's possible they changed spell tag to make these captures a little easier.

Heh.. I don't have time or the patience to get Runaways, especially the Legendary Dogs. It's all about Master Balling.

Well, at least IF they make a G/S remake for the DS, getting those dogs will be a whole lot easier, with abilities being put in and probably the marking map ap for the poketch/gear on the touch screen.

This (to a lesser extent), in turn would make encountering Ho-oh a lot easier for crystal.

This is how I caught Mesprit and Cresselia:

1.) Use an electric Pokemon with the move Thunderwave to paralyze it
2.) Chase after it and slowly whittle down its HP
3.) Use a Pokemon with the move False Swipe and make sure that it's at one HP
4.) Bring out the Wabbuffet and chuck PokeBalls like crazy

Yeah, that's basically how I did it... But in FireRed, when I catch the Legendary Dog Pokemon, I just use a MasterBall to nab it.
